I always read that hollowness as part of her whole disaffected ennui

tangenttangent, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:34 (seven years ago)

god I would kill for LDR to open one of her songs with "this california noir shit, it's not for everyone, it's a motherfucking vibe"

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:34 (seven years ago)

pomenitul has xposted us both now

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:34 (seven years ago)

Woo, my #1! I'm not even that huge a LDR fan but this song really floored me. I am probably alone in this but the thing it reminds me of the most is 'Rain Song' by Sunny Day Real Estate...

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:35 (seven years ago)

Well deserved placings for both Lana songs. She's been very consistent on our albums lists but isn't this the first year she's made the tracks list since Video Games?

kitchen person, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:35 (seven years ago)

venice bitch is like the millennial astral weeks

This would explain why I find it perplexing that people like it so much.

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:35 (seven years ago)

that SDRE album was one of my albums of 2018 fwiw

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

I was on smoko, what'd I miss?

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

people always talk about the noise jam but no one ever talks about that beautiful coda

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

SDRE comparison makes sense actually!

tangenttangent, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

If there are indeed two 1975 tracks in this year’s top 3, a special amendment will be activated calling for the expulsion of the 1975 posse from ILM. May they roam happily ever after.

breastcrawl, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

nice knowing y'all

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:38 (seven years ago)

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:38 (seven years ago)

is there any other act that has this level of love/hate split on here

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:39 (seven years ago)

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

anyway, venice bitch doesn't really remind me of astral weeks (i seriously can't find that quote, did i hallucinate it?), but the guitar does kinda remind me of this: https://youtu.be/99j0zLuNhi8

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

||||||||, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

3: Ella Mai – “Boo’d Up” – 704 points – 22 votes – 1 first place vote
video

ELLA MAI - ELLA MAI

boo’d up • i like it • OTW

Every time I've heard "Boo'd Up" in public has been an absolute still-unexpected joy.– Katherine

"Boo'd Up" gets me high. – Eazy

plot twist of the year is when ella mai reveals herself to be british at the end of “boo’d up”

— jord (@jordansarge) June 8, 2018

http://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=25541

I can hear the affinities: honesty, precision, an appreciation of space. I don’t hear a false note. – Alfred Soto

At one point Wale was attached; at another point if Chris Brown had chosen not to hop on “Scream” it would have been a Kevin Hart (?!) song. Those averted potential futures make Ella Mai’s final version sound like even more of a miracle. Joy is precious, kids. Get it where you can. – Jonathan Bogart

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:41 (seven years ago)

tweet of the year

lowercase (eric), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

polling controversial things just for the hell of it

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

Nice

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

Too low!

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

I failed to vote for this, but def my favorite big pop song from last year

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:43 (seven years ago)

the other big boo'd up plot twist is that it's mustard on the beat

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:43 (seven years ago)

how smooth and romantic. a veritable jam

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:43 (seven years ago)

haven't heard this before

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

this getting to no. 1 would've been a nice rhyme with the year "2 on" topped the list

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

that Jessie Ware song is considerably better than I thought it was based on a past listen

I missed the KKB version discussion--which is the one on Spotify?

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

she is singing 'buddha' in the chorus fyi

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

too low

||||||||, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

god what a fucking perfect song

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:44 (seven years ago)

if it was number 1 it would still be too low

||||||||, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:45 (seven years ago)

the chorus quasi scatting is the cilantro of pop this year, making the whole song unpalatable to a select group (including me)

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:45 (seven years ago)

I'd nominate Richard Dawson as someone who has a similar level of love/hate divide on here as The 1975.

I don't see them having two songs still to come, yet at the same time it would be odd if Give Yourself A Try was the second most popular song from the album.

kitchen person, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:46 (seven years ago)

Yeah, I would like this but for the central pun(s?) of the chorus - it's too distracting.

tangenttangent, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:46 (seven years ago)

Just to backtrack for a second, 'hollowness' and 'ennui' are the last words I'd use to describe Astral Weeks (except for 'Slim Slow Slider', maybe). VM's possessed utterances have nothing in common with LDR's smooth nihilism. Unless it was meant as a commentary on millennial disaffection, which may or may not be an actual thing.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:46 (seven years ago)

Boo'd Up what a vibe. Well-deserved.

Nabozo, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:46 (seven years ago)

why is she singing 'hen fap' in the chorus

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:47 (seven years ago)

damn, I regret not voting for Ella and I'm also about to regret not waiting to vote in Simon's poll

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:47 (seven years ago)

Peggy Gou has to show surely?

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:47 (seven years ago)

Based on my first encounter with this song, I think I too am a member of that select group, Simon. Coriander rules though.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:47 (seven years ago)

if peggy gou got 78'd there'll be hell to pay ilm

hell to pay

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:47 (seven years ago)
