This song is definitely an outlier on the album in the sense that it's doing something experimental in a very specific way. The album in general sounds nothing like this but “High Horse" does give an idea of how fun the production can be here. – J0rdan S.

“High Horse” is about as disco as Kylie Minogue’s “Dancing” was country; that is to say: conscientiously and carefully, without threatening to intrude too far upon unfamiliar cultural spaces. Instead each settles on a kind of naff AM-radio appeal that as easily positions it alongside “Islands in the Stream” as it does “September” or even “Copacabana.” But where Minogue’s song stirs nostalgia, the faded polyester drift of Musgraves’s more Western sound fits her lyric’s exhausted contempt. The opening line — “I bet you think you’re John Wayne” — is sass worthy of Shania, but Kacey’s disaffection crystallizes in her more arch dismissal: “You’re classic in the wrong way.” The hand claps, popping bass, and very canned strings underline the point. – Jonathan Bradley

Just read through all the comments on the SavingCountryMusic.com review of "High Horse." A typical example:

Hahaha glad you're all at least enjoying the images since it seems noone is thrilled with the results so far.

I can't take too much credit if the photographs I'm working with are good tbh, I act as more of an overseer for an artist like say, Rosalía, who connects visuals very strongly with her music there was an immense gallery to choose from... in fact she had so many good ones it took me ages to settle for a photograph as she has so many good ones. I settled with Camila Falquez's photos of her for Vogue Spain... if you enjoy those two I used check the rest of the set out... I loved it. She also did a good photoshoot for Janelle Monae last year.

I think the hardest one to find an image for was "rolling blackouts coastal fever" because the name of the band is extremely long and it felt very busy graphically with every photo of them I experimented with. I ended up taking the lazy route and added a picture of the album instead which worked fine. I think it's the only image in the whole rollout that is not a photo of the band or a still of the music video.
