Hahah I love it.

Exai 2hrs
Elseq 4hrs
NTS Sessions 8hrs
17 live albums... 16hrs

koogs, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:30 (seven years ago)

£31 though. how will they handle the people who already bought the first 9?

koogs, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:32 (seven years ago)

(and isn't that 19 new albums?)

((and isn't downloading them in bulk going to be a problem?))

koogs, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:37 (seven years ago)

bought it - you just add to cart and they discount it by what you’ve already bought. In my case I bought the 24 bit set previously so adding the 17 new ones was only charged at $1.50 per show/track (making it $25.50 for 17 hours of admittedly-similar live sets)

an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:13 (seven years ago)

are they different enough to warrant listening to though

frogbs, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:13 (seven years ago)

i think MatthewK should report back to this thread in exactly 17 hours with the answer!

Karl Malone, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:38 (seven years ago)

i make it 19 new sets, 28 in total, 9 original.

koogs, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:40 (seven years ago)

xxp that really is not a question to ask an Autechre fan

an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Friday, 1 February 2019 03:12 (seven years ago)

don't get me wrong 28 officially released live albums is amazing, just imagine if they weren't all from the same tour though

frogbs, Friday, 1 February 2019 03:28 (seven years ago)

I quite agree, when I heard there was new stuff I thought great, a different set!

an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Friday, 1 February 2019 04:13 (seven years ago)

Definitely want to grab the San Francisco one as I was there.

Aw, no physical release?

^^^^

Groove(box) Denied (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 2 February 2019 01:48 (seven years ago)

I'll have to follow this thread to see what the group loves most out of these 19 releases, then I'll...consider buying one or two? Would be more psyched if there was a physical release honestly. (And, fair enough, I did cop Elseq a few years back, but am trying to cop fewer things that are just collections of files)

Groove(box) Denied (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 2 February 2019 01:50 (seven years ago)

it does seem overwhelming

Dan S, Saturday, 2 February 2019 01:53 (seven years ago)

I really wish there was a physical version of Elseq. The NTS box set is so beautiful.

grawlix (unperson), Saturday, 2 February 2019 02:22 (seven years ago)

i do too, but groups like autechre need to fuck up every once in a while with their releases so that in the late 2020s when they finally release a physical copy we'll have reason to get pumped mid-2010's style

Karl Malone, Saturday, 2 February 2019 03:06 (seven years ago)

yea the artwork for elseq kinda begs for a deluxe foldout vinyl

frogbs, Saturday, 2 February 2019 04:32 (seven years ago)

do all 28 share the same basic backing track & can they be mixed into 1?

StanM, Saturday, 2 February 2019 08:16 (seven years ago)

it’s more like they share similar progressions, but the guys shape the way that they evolve, when they transition, etc

an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Saturday, 2 February 2019 08:26 (seven years ago)

anyway you can play them all from the store website, so have a listen

came here to post p much these exact words

Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 2 February 2019 13:47 (seven years ago)

there was an evolution in the first lot of live sets, more elements were gradually added to the mix. might start with the last of the new ones and see how different it is.

large bananas pregnant (ledge), Saturday, 2 February 2019 13:58 (seven years ago)

I am (with some regret) going to be honest with myself and pass on this entirely, even though $33 for roughly 28 hours of music is an excellent price. For one thing, I am way too busy to ever get around to listening to all or even a significant percentage of it, and for another, I just don't like music that comes in one-hour slabs. I like discrete tracks, preferably anywhere from three to ten minutes. So...nope.

grawlix (unperson), Saturday, 2 February 2019 14:26 (seven years ago)

Listening back to the Denver recording (we were there) - Ae's sets have definitely progressed somewhat from the European dates (Dublin + Utrecht are favorites), timbre-wise, and re: transitions in between 'parts'-- the general flow of things feels different ... seeing them live, it was was one of the most psychedelic sound experiences I've ever had.. quite a treat to be able to hear direct / desk recordings of that show. For $1.50

this doesn't seem like you at all to me! I've always admired your commitment to music that isn't accessible in small portions

although I agree with you that this seems like maybe too much of a time investment

Dan S, Sunday, 3 February 2019 02:38 (seven years ago)

For what it's worth, I kinda consider most of the post-Confield Ae albums (save for Quaristice \ 'versions') as whole "slabs" of almost continuous material. These live sets contain some of the rawest and most wholesome 'Autechre-speak', to my ears. It seems like they really honed the AE_LIVE material on these later USA dates... the textures are gorgeous. First four minutes of the Denver set is outta this world

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Sunday, 3 February 2019 03:28 (seven years ago)

Denver is good, I think Chicago is the best I've heard so far though.

toby, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:54 (seven years ago)

All 28 recordings are on Spotify! Elseq too. Just after I bought them all, oh well at least I've funded a takeaway or two for sean & rob.

large bananas pregnant (ledge), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:44 (seven years ago)

nice! having all of this available on spotify is so much more convenient for me

silverfish, Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:38 (seven years ago)

those four _s at the bottom of the autechre page keep changing (i think). currently they are pointing at different wetransfer pages with files called things like AE_LIVE_SETLIST_BACKUP_030308 which are descriptions of what is connected to what:

AeLive08 Set List

MIDI Routing: MachineDrum out to MonoMachine in. MonoMachine thru to MPC1K inA. MPC1K outA to NMG2 in. (BS3X out1 to MPC1K inB).

Audio Routing: MonoMachine outC/D to MachineDrum extinA/B.

Elektrons: Do not use Song Mode, use Pattern Mode only. MachineDrum: Do not use Classic Mode, use Extended Mode only.

Nord Modular G2 Patches: Load performance folder first, then load patchfile, enable Perf Mode.

and also snippets of what looks like a loose list of things to do.

Elektron Pattern BPM MPC Sequence MPC Mutes
A01 - MM/SPS 142 pref. 01 A_SHstRipRok_2br [SHstripl + build to SHstrock]
A02 - SPS fades in 02 A_SHsubzPlc_4br [SHubwafLo + build SHsubRave + build]
A04 - 03 A4_SHdufDyn_4br [SHzDufduf gseAx + build]
...
A11 - acid twangbass
...
D14 - rave verver
...
F01 - hyper carusel
...
H09 - binbanbin808

one of the bigger files had a bunch of short wav instrument samples in it and patches for a nord modular

koogs, Friday, 15 February 2019 10:07 (seven years ago)

I think you could tie in some of those pattern names to the live sets, would put money on rave verver = e.g. Krakow @ 18:55.

large bananas pregnant (ledge), Friday, 15 February 2019 10:33 (seven years ago)

it did make me think of your efforts to notate those first 9 live sets. but this is from 2008 (based on filename). would they be using the same components?

koogs, Friday, 15 February 2019 10:41 (seven years ago)

gosh darn it. well bladelores/all end shows they're not above code reuse but maybe not that much. who can say? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

large bananas pregnant (ledge), Friday, 15 February 2019 10:57 (seven years ago)

are autechre the original Extremely Online group?

Karl Malone, Friday, 15 February 2019 14:10 (seven years ago)

FSOL

steven, soda jerk (sic), Friday, 15 February 2019 14:55 (seven years ago)

If running a popular BBS counts then Black Dog were extremely online before most.

*there's (Noel Emits), Friday, 15 February 2019 16:20 (seven years ago)

Kinda wish I had a Monomachine and MachineDrum just to load their set files. Not sure if it was here or somewhere else but there's a youtube video out there of someone playing with their patches on a Monomachine from that 2008 tour.

(longer, better sound)

koogs, Saturday, 16 February 2019 18:46 (seven years ago)

(raises the question as to whether something created using autechre's patches is autechre)

koogs, Saturday, 16 February 2019 18:53 (seven years ago)

honestly i kind of expect that after the physical forms of Brown & Booth expire, their patches and algorithms will continue generating new music, virtually indistinguishable from their previous work, in some corner of the internet for eternity

Karl Malone, Saturday, 16 February 2019 19:09 (seven years ago)

Forgot about this one, it's pretty good - intense but chill at the same time. And near enough the Public Enemy Security of the First World (aka Justify my Love) beat!
