I've owned the Repertoire CDs of the two High Tide records for years

I guess there are bonus track on the most recent CDs? are they actually new tracks? or just "alternate" recordings of the same tracks from the albums ..

also I am guessing these new Sundazeds don't contain the bonuses either way on the LPs ? I mean I am a total vinyl geek, but i guess I'll stick with my Repertoire's, they've been serving me real well...

Stormy Davis, Monday, 8 June 2009 04:57 (seventeen years ago)

the bonus tracks on the eclectic cd of "sea shanties" are demos and stuff, a couple of them songs i hadn't heard before (they're not the stuff on that akarma live/bootleg album). worth it if you love sea shanties. i was surprisingly undisappointed with them.

1 Futilist's Lament 5:19
2 Death Warmed Up 9:10
3 Pushed, But Not Forgotten 4:46
4 Walking Down the Outlook 5:00
5 Missing Out 9:41
6 Nowhere 5:59
7 The Great Universal Protection Racket (bonus) 11:27
8 Dilemma (bonus) 5:17
9 Death Warmed Up (demo, bonus) 7:38
10 Pushed, But Not Forgotten (demo, bonus) 4:04
11 Time Gauges (bonus) 6:26

i bought an awesome new record today. split LP by ID M Theft Able/Cave Bears on Feeding Tube Records. I bought mine from a very nice Cave Bear dude and you can buy a copy in my shop if you want one. i have exactly two for sale. the cave bears side is their tribute to the Germs and i like it a bunch. i might write it up for my noize column.

What's the weird part?

bamcquern, Saturday, 13 June 2009 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

the yellow vinyl, i'm guessing.

scott seward, Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

That's not very weird, though. Because it's Smithsonian Folkways? I guess they're supposed to have some ascetic sensibility.

bamcquern, Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

show tonight at 8. on chevalier street. behind the bike shop on federal street. i'll be there. beers at the people's pint afterwards.

ian, Saturday, 13 June 2009 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

scott seward, Saturday, 13 June 2009 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

ian, when you get tired of big city living you should move out here to god's country.

Today

"I'd buy that for a dollar!" Great purchases for a buck or less

xhuxk, Sunday, 14 June 2009 01:02 (seventeen years ago)

daytrip to Portland and Mississippi records, picked up new Dog Faced Hermans "Hum Of Life" reissue (one of my fave 90's albums), a new MS LP by Bishop Perry Tillis (haven't heard yet), and the Pierced Arrows LP. I would have looked around more but I am broke. Love buying those LPs direct from the store, ten bucks a pop.

Richard Bishop is playing here July 2nd, so psyched. I have not yet seen a physical copy of the new record.

sleeve, Sunday, 14 June 2009 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

i hope he has stuff for sale at the show on tuesday. i will buy. i bought 3 crank sturgeon tapes at tonight's show. he was a hoot and a half.

scott seward, Sunday, 14 June 2009 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

crank sturgeon is great, i got to record him and id m theft able (similar stuff) performing together, it was like two jaap blonks having a heart attack in jean dubuffet's trashcan.

self-aware psych tropes (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 14 June 2009 07:39 (seventeen years ago)

i love Cherry's "Mu." I think they're my favorite of his records. Just how PRETTY they are, and how the bits worm their way into my earholes.

ian, Sunday, 14 June 2009 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

if you only found ten good records to buy in a month, you need to try harder. or spend more than ten dollars. one or the other. get out there!

Professor Respect, Sunday, 21 June 2009 05:08 (sixteen years ago)

I also picked up the new Sir Richard Bishop lp at a show last week for those wondering upthread if he has stuff for sell.

Professor Respect, Sunday, 21 June 2009 05:15 (sixteen years ago)

Black Hole soundtrack .. interesting .. obligatory Father's Day post, I loved the Black Hole so much when it came out that my dad took me to see it twice in the theater. Couple years later when "strong songs" WJLB used Alexander Robotnick's "Probleme's d'Amour" in their promo commercial and Electrifying Mojo played it on his show, I swore tbat Robotnick stole the main synth lick from the music that plays while the space station is shown hurtling toward the black hole in the flick ...

god damn you :( I have been scouring the internet for a reasonably-priced copy of that record ever since becoming the last person on earth to discover No Other a few months ago.

to contribute, I've been trading a bunch of CDs and DVDs in lately and putting it towards vinyl, so:

- Grizzly Bear, Veckatimest ($7.99 new w/ free Amazon Prime shipping! packaging was absurd, though - they put it in a big-ass cardboard box w/ a bunch of PVC balloon bags; I mean I'm not usually Captain Save-A-Environment or anything but it was kind of stunningly wasteful.)
- Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavilion
- Karen Dalton, It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best (AMAZING)
- Cat Power, The Greatest (sold my CD copy a while back but it's like night and day w/ the vinyl. just amazingly warm & beautiful.)
- Vashti Bunyan, Lookaftering (ditto)
- Blue Magic s/t
- Todd Rundgren, A Wizard, A True Star (for some reason this sounds like ass - the record doesn't look particularly worn or anything, but there's barely any bottom end whatsoever)
- DJ Kaos 12" (omg @ the Tiedye remix)
- Walter Jones 12"

passed on the lead in "all i can do is crossups cuz ihave no skills" (jamescobo), Monday, 22 June 2009 01:30 (sixteen years ago)

it's funny i was just playing a copy of wizardtruestar the other day and i couldn't get over how good it sounded. wasn't the gimmix cover with the funny shape either. just a nice pressing, i guess. HOT STAMPER!!

it sounded so good that i priced it at FIVE dollars instead of four.

scott seward, Monday, 22 June 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

Akron/Family record is proggy as fuck but in this weird wistful Americana way. I love it.
