In!

Some last-minute repping for a very late 2018 release (mid-December):

Pop d'n'b!

Twelves, Thursday, 24 January 2019 22:11 (seven years ago)

Oh yeah, that's a banger! Hadn't heard about it before scanning through the nomination list, when I noticed Shy FX there, so of course I had to vote for it. Junglist massive 4eva!

Tuomas, Thursday, 24 January 2019 22:23 (seven years ago)

Oh, I meant to apologise as well - I massively over-nominated in the albums field and ended up shifting a few votes over to the tracks, so I think I had about four write-ins. I actually don't really mind if they don't get counted, but as I said before, this list is my only EoY list, so I try to make it be what I actually want to remember from the year.

Is the rollout starting next week?

groovypanda, Friday, 25 January 2019 19:24 (seven years ago)

Yes on Monday!

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 25 January 2019 20:25 (seven years ago)

I am on deck to make the singles happen, starting Monday. I've seen the early returns and they are SHOCKING; vote now or you don't get to complain when we start posting things you SIMPLY CANNOT BELIEVE (pollsters hate this ONE SIMPLE SONG)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 25 January 2019 20:27 (seven years ago)

I'm honestly drawing a blank on what song from 2018 could simultaneously be really hated and yet also do really well. God's Plan? Lift Yourself? Baby Shark? This is America?

MarkoP, Friday, 25 January 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

baby shark and moo are two i'm definitely rooting against in vain

imago, Friday, 25 January 2019 21:00 (seven years ago)

the presence of non-song "this is america" would be a bummer

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 25 January 2019 21:08 (seven years ago)

voted! just in time.

There were quite a few things I was surprised weren't nominated (I was travelling during the noms period so didn't get around to it) but by the same token narrowing each list down to 25 selections still broke my heart.

From these: one I've voted for, one I wouldn't mind seeing crop up, one I can't fucking stand, one I've never knowingly heard.

My suggestion for a joke top 10 entry is Peach Scone.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 25 January 2019 21:29 (seven years ago)

I can confirm the results are bonkers, also there’s a huge song that I thought was a top 20 contender and it is not even in the top 77.

what level of weird are we talking like weirder than last year when somehow SZA completely missed the tracks poll and "Boys" won? that would be impressive

ufo, Friday, 25 January 2019 23:31 (seven years ago)

forks, when you start the rollout thread Monday morning, I beg of you to use the format we've used every year in the post-musically era...and to call them tracks instead of singles. 👍

Johnny Fever, Friday, 25 January 2019 23:36 (seven years ago)

*title format

Incoming ballots might change some things, but there are definitely some songs which I didn't expect to make it and which are a nice surprise imho... also yes, without revealing too much, if the ballots received today don't change the scores significantly on the bottom we might indeed have another SZA scenario this year.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:04 (seven years ago)

I was legit angry last year that the final batch of ballots ruined Taylor Swift getting 78'ed.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:10 (seven years ago)

Best way to avoid WTF WHO VOTED FOR THIS syndrome is to get your ballot in!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:12 (seven years ago)

how many more hours to get ballots in?

marcos smart (Spottie), Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:15 (seven years ago)

Oops, I forgot to save my ballot.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:23 (seven years ago)

‘Go to town’ is the doja cat banger imo

flopson, Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:23 (seven years ago)

they’re both great

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:53 (seven years ago)

this year feels a lot more open in terms of possibilities than last year and if the results are even weirder than last year i'm looking forward to being surprised then

ufo, Saturday, 26 January 2019 00:57 (seven years ago)

i'm really confident in my albums list but my songs list felt like a mess even as i was submitting it, and i've technically been working on it for a few months now lol

If it was another situation similar SZA last year, I could see Robyn missing out due to split voting.

I just mean the titling format we've been using since j0rdan and I ran it in 2010: "ILM's Top 77 Tracks of 201x"

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 26 January 2019 04:36 (seven years ago)

xp yeah Robyn or Mitski would be my guesses for being vote split to death
