Weirdly disappointed to learn that the boyfriend who shells out for expensive hypnotherapy, sings in an English accent and was in a band when PB was born is (supposedly) Ryan Adams.

I just heard this song for the first time and I fucking hate the shit out of Ryan Adams, this is just amazing songwriting....

Ryan is great, but yes, that last line in particular is an all-time great dig xp

knowing that song is about ryan adams makes it 1) funnier, then 2) more upsetting

album is much better than i gave it credit for upthread but i've also been depressed

it's a pretty fun record so far! only the opening track has really struck that quintessential phoebe bridgers note of emotional desolation though

“Service Road” on the Better Oblivion record, the one about Oberst’s brother’s death, is haunting and amazing. Bridgers’ backup vocals are great.

was planning on ignoring this cause i've been out on oberst for a while and bridgers' 2017 album didn't stick with me, but wow is "dylan thomas" a good song.

About 6 months ago, Mark Wheat, a DJ on our local public indie station (89.3 - "The Current") played Phoebe's "Stranger in the Alps" track "Motion Sickness" immediately before Kenny Rogers & The First Edition's "Just Dropped In", then simply followed it with another song, adding no context or reference. It was one of those rad "I see what you did there!" moments that remind me of just why I care so much about this whole music whathaveyou. The station seems to love rewarding fellow music nerds, as another Current DJ, Mary Lucia, plays Hüsker Dü tracks primarily from the era of their (actual or kayfabe-laden?) rivalry with the Replacements (Paul Westerberg happens to be her brother).

Sorry, I'm dense ... what did they do there?

i think motion sickness might be a "great" song, not just a good one. i was a bit disappointed to learn it was about ryan adams--i didn't want the narrative to be so specific--but even with that, it doesn't lose any of its impact.

it's better than great. it's brilliant, a bona fide classic, an all-timer...

otm, just hit replay on "Dylan Thomas." I like this album.

I'm coming around on some songs. It still really annoys me when Conor's voice comes in on the first track. The lyric is one person's story, and it doesn't really make sense for this other voice to come in with octave unison. Phoebe's double tracked voice and the guitars would have been stronger for the song. I like Conor's voice as a lead, but it's not really capable of serving another role.

well I do agree with them on that. she could have done a Cure and insisted on affordable tickets, I think.

Not that I’m a huge PB fan, but the position of financial security that allowed the Cure to do that is enormously different to that of a 30ish musician in the era of Spotify and corporate contempt for creative “content”.

I mean, given (if I remember right) that MSG shows typically aren't money-makers for the artists after expenses, $1-$20 for that show definitely put her people/label/whoever in the red.

I definitely appreciate it when artists do the right thing by their fans, but as an artist who is clueless about how money works or finances or paperwork, I don’t know that I would do great myself.

I would probably avoid social media and just do whatever my manager tells me as long as I can keep doing my thing.
