About a week ago, imago asked me privately who I thought the "Comet Control of 2018" was. After taking probably way too much time to ponder this question I realized the answer was obviously Yawning Man:

I think there were a couple things that threw me off the trail, first being that this album is almost completely instrumental. The second was that I wasn't entirely sure whether this was all new material or an archived release:. "Catamaran" was covered by Kyuss and put on their last (& I'm best) album in 1995! But lately I've learned that the rest of these songs are all new, and they just finally got around to putting Catamaran--a song that's been with them since the beginning--on a studio album.

Notwithstanding, this album is wonderful, as Yawning Man conjure up ethereal arabesques from their distortion pedals. Total Aurora Borealis-grade sludge.

Musically speaking, I very much enjoyed that Nécropole album but I won't be listening to it again. Describing Jews as malicious 'vipers' and 'cosmic enemies' then outright stating that 'the Jewish "race"' (I'm quoting the quotation marks, which totally sanitize the sentiment, amirite?) 'must die' is a kind of pubescent edginess that induces more eye rolling than is anatomically bearable on my part.
