sometimes I think it's their best album - not as left-field startling as the debut, but more concise, no filler

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:30 (seven years ago)

and all of the guest spots are fantastic

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:30 (seven years ago)

It IS their best album.

Your sweetie-pie-coo-coo I love ya (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:32 (seven years ago)

but DLSID exist

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:54 (seven years ago)

im sure this was debated upthread but i am still on the fence myself

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 16:56 (seven years ago)

Nah, Dead is easily their most creative album. 3 Feet is more accessible, Buhloone is more abstract. They're all three absolutely brilliant and I could get on board with any well-articulated reasons why any of them are their overall best album.

Personally, my pick is Dead.👌

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 18:53 (seven years ago)

I love these dudes so much. I ranked them.

Never saw em live back in the day but just saw them do a free show outdoors outside the Kennedy Center. Recognized Potholes in my Lawn, Me, Myself & I, and one other one. not the rest , but it was all still fun with lots of calls to wave your arms in the air.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 17 September 2019 05:58 (six years ago)

lol at "one other one"

brigadier pudding (DJP), Tuesday, 17 September 2019 16:48 (six years ago)

man Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump is so damn tight. Only the attempts at Puff-era crossover go splat.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 23 April 2020 12:50 (six years ago)

Every mixtape should contain one of the following songs:

Oodles of Os
Millie Pulled A Pistol On Santa
Ego Trippin' (Part 2)
Rock Co.Kane Flow

DJP, Thursday, 23 April 2020 14:09 (six years ago)

sadly no streaming playlists can.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Thursday, 23 April 2020 15:34 (six years ago)

You can include "Rock Co.Kane Flow" on Spotify

DJP, Thursday, 23 April 2020 15:36 (six years ago)

ah fair, missed that one

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Thursday, 23 April 2020 15:48 (six years ago)

i love mosaic thump. but which songs are the crossover grabs you speak of?

Spottie, Thursday, 23 April 2020 16:05 (six years ago)

"The Art of Getting Jumped" and "U Can Do (Life)."

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 23 April 2020 16:08 (six years ago)

The art of Getting Jumped, really? I’d say the pop stabs are Oooh, IC Y’all and All Good. Oooh is excellent and the other 2 are good. Whole album is worthwhile and I’d say Bionix had more crossover attempts though it’s awesome, too.

This Guy Fawkes (Yelploaf), Thursday, 23 April 2020 16:15 (six years ago)

someone on twitter posted this live version of rock co kane flow with doom, fun clip.

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Thursday, 23 April 2020 16:17 (six years ago)

maybe they were just really bad at trying to crossover cos i dont really get that from those.

Spottie, Thursday, 23 April 2020 16:20 (six years ago)

bionix tried a lot harder i think. i love that one too tho.

Did and maybe do still love these guys but after revisiting their old albums, have concluded that they have quite boring voices. In a way that's their legacy, making it ok to be a rapper with a boring voice.

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:46 (five years ago)

They def had some late career highlights, grind date being the one yet sticks out, but I think what prince Paul did was balance out the boring voices with a lot of colourful distractions so you forgot that.

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:47 (five years ago)

*the one that sticks out

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:48 (five years ago)

you have some very challenging opinions

na (NA), Monday, 15 February 2021 15:52 (five years ago)

these are opinions, all right

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 February 2021 15:55 (five years ago)

You can see their post Paul career as a way of fully embracing the regular guy shtick their voices previously only suggested. Eg - trying people. The humour also became less zany and quirky and more regular. In fairness, the first serve album did try to address the decline in clever humour a little bit.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug_1_%26_Plug_2_Present..._First_Serve

I need to check out their 2016 album. Totally passed me by.

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 16:02 (five years ago)

"Trugoy, he just started going officially by the ludicrous alias "Dave" "

This was a tragic turning point. Though maybe influenced London rapper Dave.

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 16:08 (five years ago)

candyman, I agree, they're not much in the way of stylists. No less great for it, mind.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 15 February 2021 17:03 (five years ago)

Someone once said that De La Soul were the first rappers whose beats were more important than their words and voices. Is this a controversial take?

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 15 February 2021 17:15 (five years ago)

i regularly listen to and enjoy most of the music from hip hop group De La Soul

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 February 2021 17:18 (five years ago)

Classic

"Someone once said that De La Soul were the first rappers whose beats were more important than their words and voices. Is this a controversial take?"

That seems a bit off? But idk, I kinda lost some interest when they split from Paul. Stakes is high had some truly boring beats.

I think mc tee was the first though.

candyman, Monday, 15 February 2021 18:23 (five years ago)

I mean, you could go back to Planet Rock
