Finally got around to listening to this and I think I've finally resigned myself to something I have suspected for some time: the two volumes of Sketches From An Island--which I've listened to more times than I could possibly count--were a fluke. Like everything else I've checked out by MB, this recent album does nothing for me whatsoever. I'll try again, because in theory I'm a big MB fan (well, based on those two albums, anyway), but probably won't be buying this one.

This one is very different, but has its own charms

I think its worth noting that he admitted he wasn't trying to do Sketches 3 or a similar approach, and it was released on Running Back which these days is known more for bigroom house than anything, rather than his own label

He has a bunch of really good singles and eps that are worth checking out for more of that sketches vibe.

He's an old head... he put out a lot of stuff in the 90s too (future loop foundation etc)

I really love Nature Sounds of the Balearics. To me he’s just as good at the techno/house side as his sketches from an island vibe

This is lovely except for one of the tracks near the end which has a really high pitched tone all the way through and is pretty much unlistenable

any other balearic fans loving the helado negro album? it's not really balearic but i get v similar feelings out of its sounds. (and it's such a good album.)

wow dude those are worth a lot of money! my favorite, the sean p one, is going for like $80 on discogs.

i think some of them are better than others. i like the ones by sean p, lexx, burgess & green, and rong music a lot more than the rest. but i'm not really hardcore balearic so there you go

the moonboots one is about half bangers i think (sth national, esposito, band aid, radio band, flayer), but kind of agree about the rest
