That Club Meduse comp is very much my shit.

Can anyone recommend bands that sound like Antena? Because I just got the reissue of the Camino Del Sol EP and it's ace

Some chilled out vibes from the Scottish Highlands inspired by Celtic mythology. This album was made with the assistance of Forestry Commission Scotland, which is something that I don't think that you can say that about most of the other music in this thread
― paolo, Saturday, 16 February 2019 09:56 (seven years ago)
Paolo, try Domenique Dumont
― Evan, Saturday, 16 February 2019 17:22 (seven years ago)
Thanks but I'm already into them :)

Figured it was possible! Always worth mentioning just in case.

Finally got around to listening to this and I think I've finally resigned myself to something I have suspected for some time: the two volumes of Sketches From An Island--which I've listened to more times than I could possibly count--were a fluke. Like everything else I've checked out by MB, this recent album does nothing for me whatsoever. I'll try again, because in theory I'm a big MB fan (well, based on those two albums, anyway), but probably won't be buying this one.
― Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 17 February 2019 14:41 (seven years ago)
This one is very different, but has its own charms
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 17 February 2019 15:09 (seven years ago)
I think its worth noting that he admitted he wasn't trying to do Sketches 3 or a similar approach, and it was released on Running Back which these days is known more for bigroom house than anything, rather than his own label
― boxedjoy, Sunday, 17 February 2019 18:54 (seven years ago)
He has a bunch of really good singles and eps that are worth checking out for more of that sketches vibe.
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 17 February 2019 18:58 (seven years ago)
He's an old head... he put out a lot of stuff in the 90s too (future loop foundation etc)
― brimstead, Sunday, 17 February 2019 20:13 (seven years ago)
I really love Nature Sounds of the Balearics. To me he’s just as good at the techno/house side as his sketches from an island vibe

omniboi - gucci
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbNjHBM47bs
this was originally a remix of lil pump "gucci gang" by a producer named omniboi... the remix is cute but the instrumental is a slice of balearic heaven imo
the video of him playing the remix live in his bedroom is dope tho

Feeling that. I listened to clips of his last album and wasn't that impressed but might need to go back to it

This is lovely except for one of the tracks near the end which has a really high pitched tone all the way through and is pretty much unlistenable
― paolo, Tuesday, 30 April 2019 19:34 (seven years ago)
any other balearic fans loving the helado negro album? it's not really balearic but i get v similar feelings out of its sounds. (and it's such a good album.)

― groovypanda, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:13 (seven years ago)
yessir and difficult to find except on those absurdly overpriced (and overrated imo) claremont originals comps
i hate on that label but i have to admit each of those comps has turned me on to at least one all time bomb ... though imo at least 75% of the obscurities on those comps should have stayed obscure
― the late great, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:16 (seven years ago)
well difficult to find on 12" anyway
― the late great, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:20 (seven years ago)
Ha! I've got all 10 on CD.
75% is a little harsh
― groovypanda, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:28 (seven years ago)
wow dude those are worth a lot of money! my favorite, the sean p one, is going for like $80 on discogs.
i think some of them are better than others. i like the ones by sean p, lexx, burgess & green, and rong music a lot more than the rest. but i'm not really hardcore balearic so there you go
― the late great, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:38 (seven years ago)
the moonboots one is about half bangers i think (sth national, esposito, band aid, radio band, flayer), but kind of agree about the rest
xp
― dogs, Friday, 3 May 2019 11:49 (seven years ago)
oh yeah moonboots is good too
i'm probably just being crazy harsh because crazy $$$
― the late great, Friday, 3 May 2019 12:06 (seven years ago)
I dont really think any of the originals are that solid but they do always have 3-6 great tracks a piece on em
― brimstead, Friday, 3 May 2019 19:26 (seven years ago)
honestly will forever be in debt to the series for introducing me to flayer, escape from NY's "fire in my heart" and letta's "nomalizo"
we got fire in my heart and flayer represses, now we need nomalizo on 12"
― the late great, Friday, 3 May 2019 19:31 (seven years ago)
aware there was a recent edit but not super crazy about it, what do you all think?

dang, when i clicked there were 17 left, 16 after I bought one. these went quick.

The last 10 must have sold within 5-10 minutes it was crazy.

Yowza!

The page now shows 29 copies available. I feel like artists do this on purpose to get people to order quickly. If either of these guys ever complain about streaming royalties after charging $55 for 20mins of music, they can die in a fire.
