As a fan, I agree it's a bit of a step down; still a really good album, tho

this is a weird year for me -- the albums I love that I assumed would also be consensus picks (and that aren't the obvious ones, everyone knew the robyn album would do well, etc.) are turning out not to be at all

Such as? An album which almost everyone seemed to forget about was the MGMT one. If it had been released in the past trimester I think it would have fared a lot better.

Wow, this previous Rosalía album (Los Ángeles) is even better... terrific stuff.

Imago the Black Dresses album is badass, thanks. That and Senyawa have stood out. I keep losing Wi-Fi access so slow going till I return to the listening later tomorrow night.

idk why the Ringer list didn't include input from Lindsay Zoladz unless she's doing her own separate list. Shea Serrano doesn't seem to even have a passing familiarity with anything besides hip-hop, which would be fine if he was writing for XXL or whatever.

I listened to the Black Dresses and it's like, I was promised noise pop, not noise + wank electroclash vocals.

The bits that were just noise were great though.

it's an easy joke but in reality pretty much all but the corniest of lists is gonna have a fair bit of rap, R&B, and pop mixed in with indie fuxxors
