What on earth is Suede doing that high on that list

resident hack (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 10:56 (five years ago) link

Because it's an excellent album, obviously.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 11:04 (five years ago) link

theyre one of the groups that the quietus have long had a soft spot for despite the way their taste usually skews, but that's high even considering that

ufo, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 11:07 (five years ago) link

The album is fine and all but sheesh

nice to see my boys and girls at 16

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 14:23 (five years ago) link

Snow Patrol released a record this year? Then again I somehow managed to forget about the weird Justin Timberlake fake-country album that came out this year.

grawlix (unperson), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:09 (five years ago) link

i'm guessing i would like that flasher album

certainly the list that i've heard the most of, and heard of nearly all the rest

the flasher album is pretty solid but didn't stand out as anything too special to me when i listened recently. also still confused by sweetener being ariana's critical breakthrough

ufo, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:15 (five years ago) link

The NPR list is a little on the nose but I do honestly love that their top 10 are all women.

husked, tonal wails (irrational), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:21 (five years ago) link

what a triumph

imago, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:23 (five years ago) link

lol

pomenitul, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:25 (five years ago) link

Stereogum has the first mention of Holy Fawn. Great album.

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:27 (five years ago) link

Come on imago, where's yr pride in obscurantism? (PS I will probs be voting for at least three of the Canadian trans electronic arts society albums so I'm v on your side about their worth)

emil.y, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:28 (five years ago) link

My probable #1 has crept into a couple of lists today, which is nice I guess

Black Dresses being on just one list would be something huh

imago, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:29 (five years ago) link

(I think I'm only voting for two but that could change)

imago, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:31 (five years ago) link

the only one i think they had a realistic chance on was Stereogum

favourite find from EOY lists season so far is the Idris Ackamoor album from The Quietus list

ufo, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:32 (five years ago) link

xp they have a good shot at the ilxor time travel top 500 albums i reck

nxd, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:32 (five years ago) link

They had a Fader feature so hopefully that'll swing it there

imago, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:32 (five years ago) link

Quietus list looks interesting as usual.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 15:42 (five years ago) link

The Flasher album is my biggest grower of the year. It rules.

alpine static, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 17:13 (five years ago) link

Picadilly introduced me to Kadhja Bonet, and for that I am thankful.

afriendlypioneer, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 17:35 (five years ago) link

Oh you have to check her past album, it’s even better imho.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 17:56 (five years ago) link

starting to seem like my aoty isn't gonna appear on any lists

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link

which isn't unexpected

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link

I'm thankful to the Gorilla vs. Bear list for introducing me to Rosalía... her voice is amazing.

underqualified backing vocalist (morrisp), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:43 (five years ago) link

apologies if this ha been linked upthread 500 times already, but an aggregation: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BwJaVJa_OZezUbbCE9Z6HpNdcl6wwmlPrCLWm3sKygo/edit#gid=0

particularly recommended if you miss glenn's stats from pazz and jop

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:46 (five years ago) link

the love for that coasting Spiritualized record baffles me

resident hack (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:49 (five years ago) link

xp that's cool, thanks

otm about Spiritualized

sleeve, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:50 (five years ago) link

surprised that Courtney Barnett is placing so high on so many lists. i thought it was a clear step down, and i thought a lot of people agreed

galaxy brian (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:50 (five years ago) link

As a fan, I agree it's a bit of a step down; still a really good album, tho

underqualified backing vocalist (morrisp), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 18:54 (five years ago) link

this is a weird year for me -- the albums I love that I assumed would also be consensus picks (and that aren't the obvious ones, everyone knew the robyn album would do well, etc.) are turning out not to be at all

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:01 (five years ago) link

Such as? An album which almost everyone seemed to forget about was the MGMT one. If it had been released in the past trimester I think it would have fared a lot better.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:16 (five years ago) link

Wow, this previous Rosalía album (Los Ángeles) is even better... terrific stuff.

underqualified backing vocalist (morrisp), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:19 (five years ago) link

Congrats to Smino for having the one interesting album on the Ringer list

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:45 (five years ago) link

Imago the Black Dresses album is badass, thanks. That and Senyawa have stood out. I keep losing Wi-Fi access so slow going till I return to the listening later tomorrow night.

Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:45 (five years ago) link

idk why the Ringer list didn't include input from Lindsay Zoladz unless she's doing her own separate list. Shea Serrano doesn't seem to even have a passing familiarity with anything besides hip-hop, which would be fine if he was writing for XXL or whatever.

evol j, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:51 (five years ago) link

xp -- US Girls is the big one

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Tuesday, 4 December 2018 19:56 (five years ago) link

I think US Girls is suffering from having come out so early in the year.

evol j, Tuesday, 4 December 2018 20:02 (five years ago) link
