It made my Top 20.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 November 2018 21:45 (seven years ago)

that AMFAR ad was probably the first time I ever heard of the B-52s, I remember buying multiple albums by them and being like "huh, I guess that song (Summer of Love) isn't on this one"

I can tell it was assembled around the mixing desk, with those excellent synth whooshes covering for the lack of Ricky.

Are the BotS images in a golden ratio? Took me long enough to see it.

I LOVE THIS SONG. shamefully, i didn't even really know about it when i submitted my ballot. now it would be top 5, i think.

my, uh, second-favorite song by them : )

Missed the results in real time. "Wig" was my first vote to place. Surprised to see it, "Channel Z" and "Girl From Ipanema" so low! All awesome imo. The image for "Girl" is fantastic! (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 13 November 2018 22:18 (seven years ago)

"Ain't it a Shame" placed high on my ballot too. Great Cindy performance.

Nice to see Bouncing Off The Satellites being represented well. Ain't It A Shame was my number four. One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs I know.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 13 November 2018 22:43 (seven years ago)

That 1978 video fascinates me beyond all comprehension, still performing to recorded backing. As early as it is, you can hear how they have all of their quirky parts and performances cemented.

If I have my B lore straight, that video predates their first trip to NYC to play at Max's Kansas City. The book Party out of Bounds mentions how they had made a video prior to the trip, and took some stills from it to create a press kit to try to land a gig at CBGB, which didn't book them, and Max's, which did.

I still enjoy Love Shack even after hearing it a thousand times, but I didn't even think of voting for it.

I thought about it, but yes. One of those songs like Rock the Casbah or Tainted Love that I can't hate but can't seek out either. Keep it in reserve for something to be a good sport about at wedding receptions.

> 19. Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland

Watching the video made me like this one more, where they dose it with more surrealism. The tune stays in one place. It could use a "Tin roof, rusted!" slap of incongruity in there somewhere.

saddest kamancheh (bendy), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 12:00 (seven years ago)

Nah, Ipanema is the vertiginous diva turn, it's all about build

Ain't It a Shame was my #5. Way too low! BotS has such an expansive vision of pop music

slack thompson (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 13:26 (seven years ago)

I couldn't not vote for "Love Shack", but my love for it diminished a bit over the years from overhearing it. It was the video that introduced little me to RuPaul and shocked my mother, so it still holds a special place in my heart.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 14:52 (seven years ago)

“Ain’t it a Shame” really the hidden gem of their catalogue, and reason alone to check out BOTS.
