I erased Pageant Material, kept two songs.
― You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 October 2018 16:27 (seven years ago)
She’s such a great melodist
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 5 October 2018 16:28 (seven years ago)
Well if you don’t like her voice, I suppose it’s more difficult to enjoy her work ! How many songs did you keep from GH ?
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 5 October 2018 16:29 (seven years ago)
Did you keep "Late To The Party"?
― Ubering With The King (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 5 October 2018 16:35 (seven years ago)
The first four sound good to me but LTTP is definitely a level above
― Number None, Friday, 5 October 2018 16:36 (seven years ago)
"Dime Store Cowgirl" and the title track are good, but the three PM essentials for me are "Die Fun", "Miserable" and "Late to the Party".
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Friday, 5 October 2018 16:44 (seven years ago)
I really love the debut, hated that Mind Your Own Biscuits song so much I never got Pageant Material, and her recent singles' Dolly-goes-disco steez I appreciate in theory but it's not really the kind of thing that plays to her strengths imo.
― Οὖτις, Friday, 5 October 2018 16:47 (seven years ago)
« Die Fun » is so good
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 5 October 2018 18:28 (seven years ago)
i liked pageant material a lot at the time -- i listened to it again earlier this year and i still see the charm in it but it's seems clearly her third best album to me. i still appreciate it tho bcuz she was mining a very specific set of her influences. but the songs on "same trailer" are more clever and from a production/songwriting standpoint golden hour is like, in another strata
― J0rdan S., Friday, 5 October 2018 18:47 (seven years ago)
when she hits the chorus on "Golden Hour" it's the most blissful thing imo
― omar little, Friday, 5 October 2018 18:52 (seven years ago)
Basically, I simply like her work a lot, mostly the 2nd and latest albums (I like the 1st one but less).I don’t really understand how one can love the 1st one and hate the 2nd one (or vice versa) though... they’re so close !The 3rd one is something else : less country, more mainstream pop, so I can understand how one could like it but dislike her previous output.
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 5 October 2018 22:42 (seven years ago)
I like this album a lot but I also miss"Blowin' Smoke" Kacey
― Heez, Friday, 12 October 2018 02:32 (seven years ago)
I think I like each album less than the first but love them all.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 12 October 2018 02:37 (seven years ago)
I’ve seen this discussed as a potential Album of the Year (Grammy) nominee.... which surprised me, but we’ll find out on Dec. 5.
― too busy or too stoned (morrisp), Saturday, 3 November 2018 05:28 (seven years ago)
why doesn't the new album have its own thread?
― Trϵϵship, Thursday, 15 November 2018 03:55 (seven years ago)
POLLden hour is surely coming soon
― Heez, Thursday, 15 November 2018 03:59 (seven years ago)
cma album of the year
― dyl, Friday, 16 November 2018 02:55 (seven years ago)
That’s cool; I would have thought it’s not “Country” enough.
― verlaine & rambo (morrisp), Friday, 16 November 2018 03:46 (seven years ago)
pretty cool given how hitless it was
― J0rdan S., Friday, 16 November 2018 03:50 (seven years ago)
Didn’t CMA give Stapleton awards before he had hits?
― curmudgeon, Saturday, 17 November 2018 01:46 (seven years ago)
But yeah pretty cool
― curmudgeon, Saturday, 17 November 2018 01:51 (seven years ago)
Bentley's The Mountain was a better album but I'm quite alone on that one lol. I know it has supporters on the country thread.
― I like queer. You like queer, senator? (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 17 November 2018 02:04 (seven years ago)

i haven't actually listened to this all that much this year, but every time i did the songs, lots of them, would just pop into my head for days and days afterward, it's really something
― j., Sunday, 23 December 2018 16:44 (seven years ago)
this is underrated imo

Yeah her Xmas album has got a lot of play from us the last two years
― We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Monday, 24 December 2018 03:45 (seven years ago)
Oh wow thanks for the suggestion !I had never considered listening to her xmas album since I don’t care about these things in general but it’s charming and great !Glad to have this addition to her catalogue !

on a drudge work day, this album is like a drug

Cancelled tomorrow night's show. She cited cold weather, I cite diva.

She's from East Texas, where it gets to 19 Degrees for one night every 4 years.

jes thinkin of the fans
― j., Wednesday, 30 January 2019 21:17 (seven years ago)
Ok after the eoy singles poll I gave a chance to Golden Hour and I’m in. The production on this is so good, everything sounds so warm and perfect, how did they make the acoustic guitars sound this good? It’s insane.
I’ve read many comparisons but one I’ve yet to read and the one it reminds me the most is Aimee Mann, particularly “lost in space” but you know, less engineered.

Kacey cleaned up... #Grammys
― yuh yuh (morrisp), Monday, 11 February 2019 05:24 (seven years ago)
how was it not even nominated for best engineered (non-classical)
― ufo, Monday, 11 February 2019 05:29 (seven years ago)
heard a kacey song on the radio for the first time since "keep it to yourself" on country radio five years ago. this time it was "rainbow" on an adult contemporary station.
― dyl, Tuesday, 19 February 2019 20:55 (seven years ago)
actually i lied, close to the time of the album's release i heard "slow burn" and another track (i think "space cowboy") on a noncommercial/community station
― dyl, Wednesday, 20 February 2019 02:33 (seven years ago)
This is a pretty fun analysis of "Butterflies" !http://www.switchedonpop.com/82-kacey-musgraves-gives-us-butterflies/
still love that song, btw.
― AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 14:09 (seven years ago)
really heartening to see her finally cross over -- was at a show last night and the artist, who I don't think has any kind of country affiliation, covered "Golden Hour." (I suppose you could frame that as cynical if you're, like, s*ving country music, but why?)
― theorizing your yells (katherine), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 16:11 (seven years ago)
For a man who clearly loves being well-liked, it’s indescribably mind-numbing to see him blatantly and murderously ignore doing ONE THING that would not only make people happy but would SAVE PEOPLE’S LIVES. She was great at the Amazon festival this weekend
― DT, Monday, 9 December 2019 18:51 (six years ago)
I appear to be in the minority about Golden Hour. I mean I can see why she did it and good for her crossing over and everything but to my ears it just feels breezy and generic in a boring way. It's not *bad* per se, it just sorta drifts by anonymously.
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 19:31 (six years ago)
Nah, I got you. I'm not a fan either. The most poignant thing she's released in the last two years:
