Well if you don’t like her voice, I suppose it’s more difficult to enjoy her work ! How many songs did you keep from GH ?

Did you keep "Late To The Party"?

The first four sound good to me but LTTP is definitely a level above

"Dime Store Cowgirl" and the title track are good, but the three PM essentials for me are "Die Fun", "Miserable" and "Late to the Party".

I really love the debut, hated that Mind Your Own Biscuits song so much I never got Pageant Material, and her recent singles' Dolly-goes-disco steez I appreciate in theory but it's not really the kind of thing that plays to her strengths imo.

i liked pageant material a lot at the time -- i listened to it again earlier this year and i still see the charm in it but it's seems clearly her third best album to me. i still appreciate it tho bcuz she was mining a very specific set of her influences. but the songs on "same trailer" are more clever and from a production/songwriting standpoint golden hour is like, in another strata

when she hits the chorus on "Golden Hour" it's the most blissful thing imo

Basically, I simply like her work a lot, mostly the 2nd and latest albums (I like the 1st one but less).
I don’t really understand how one can love the 1st one and hate the 2nd one (or vice versa) though... they’re so close !
The 3rd one is something else : less country, more mainstream pop, so I can understand how one could like it but dislike her previous output.

I think I like each album less than the first but love them all.

I’ve seen this discussed as a potential Album of the Year (Grammy) nominee.... which surprised me, but we’ll find out on Dec. 5.

Bentley's The Mountain was a better album but I'm quite alone on that one lol. I know it has supporters on the country thread.

i haven't actually listened to this all that much this year, but every time i did the songs, lots of them, would just pop into my head for days and days afterward, it's really something

Ok after the eoy singles poll I gave a chance to Golden Hour and I’m in. The production on this is so good, everything sounds so warm and perfect, how did they make the acoustic guitars sound this good? It’s insane.

I’ve read many comparisons but one I’ve yet to read and the one it reminds me the most is Aimee Mann, particularly “lost in space” but you know, less engineered.

heard a kacey song on the radio for the first time since "keep it to yourself" on country radio five years ago. this time it was "rainbow" on an adult contemporary station.

actually i lied, close to the time of the album's release i heard "slow burn" and another track (i think "space cowboy") on a noncommercial/community station

really heartening to see her finally cross over -- was at a show last night and the artist, who I don't think has any kind of country affiliation, covered "Golden Hour." (I suppose you could frame that as cynical if you're, like, s*ving country music, but why?)

I appear to be in the minority about Golden Hour. I mean I can see why she did it and good for her crossing over and everything but to my ears it just feels breezy and generic in a boring way. It's not *bad* per se, it just sorta drifts by anonymously.
