it's not like the last album wasn't incredibly great but this new material collectively seems like another huge leap forward, I don't think I've anticipated an album this much since Shaking The Habitual

'Tops and Bottoms' is magic. Knowing the lyrics really opened it up for me. Consumerism, anxiety, the male gaze, superficiality, ego, etc...addressed with serious economy.
Or, I could be reading too much into it. heh

Either way, what a special vocalist/lyricist. Something that I'm liking more about these singles than the last album is how up front and idiosyncratic the vocal performances
are again.

Also, saw the first show of the tour last Thursday. If you can, go. Didn't realize how much I'd missed em!

the whole album is excellent but i'm completely blown away by Keep on Mixing and Taste in Movies

also love the new background vocals added to Jaipur

i do wish they'd included power of two and echo arms, the balance would feel a bit better with uptempo tracks like those in there

I’ve just added it to my edit

i've put Power of Two and Echo Arms in between Alien FM and Koh-I-Noor and it takes the album from a 9 to a 10

I also wish that they had done an extended Echo Arms instead of Power Of Two, although both feel like some lost Paradise Garage classic

idk the album is perfectly wonderful without them, i’m fine with 1 awesome album and 1 awesome double-sided single

yeah i understand why they left it off, but i already regret not buying that echo arms/power of two single at the merch table.

it just adds a little more of their dance side to it and sort of balances it out a bit better, the album feels a lot slower without them. it's great as it is but i definitely prefer my edit

i want a whole album of the sophisti-2-step of Keep on Mixing

i just like that the album is a more chilled out space generally

the way the strings flutter in across this, the meticulous hi-hat sounds, the brass on "Taste In Movies" - what a wonderful sounding album

This band has been through so much, and it’s incredible to listen to their discography and hear their evolution. This album is sublime!

the other week i had kind of dysphoric episode over my clothes but it was nice to have the chorus of "tops and bottoms" running through my head during it

I’ve always liked this band but this album is on another level.

Saw them last night in Seattle and am still floating. They are so tight and dialed in with their sound. Stood next to the board and their sound guy does as much as anyone on stage, constantly finessing the mix and dubbing out the drums. Definitely felt like the last time I’ll see them in a small club.

but why do they have such a bad name so that I only bothered to click the thread now???

They were called Twin Sister, another act with the same name sued them, they had to take something else that was different but still recognisably the same band. They don't really like the name, I think.

I did always wonder why they didn't choose a completely new name as they've changed direction drastically since those days and "Mr Twin Sister" is such a dreadful name, to the point where convincing people to listen to them is harder than it needs to be

they should have gone with tvvin sister imo

makes me think of Twisted Sister

I guess a lot of bands end up with a name they don't really like

i think "bad" band names (cf. majical cloudz) are better than seamlessly competent/"normal" ones (cf. grizzly bear) ¯\_ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ_/¯

i obviously can't speak to how the band feels about it but i think 'mr twin sister' foregrounds the genderfluid themes in their recent music so i appreciate it on that level!

Considering that they entertained names such as Snake Butt, Dolphin Knee, Fish Toe, Jelly Chin, and Blood Chugger. where they landed isn't so bad.

Hahaha, no. I was just making a corny joke about the divisiveness of their name. It's objectively awful but somehow perfect for the band they now are i.e. the best band going.

despite not being totally sold on the new album yet, i went to their show last nite and it was fantastic
