Got my tickets for SF and I can't wait. Dawn and Kimbra, that's a good combination.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 September 2018 19:25 (seven years ago)

she'll never play in Seattle, will she :(

Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix), Monday, 24 September 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

apologies for missing your post Maura; I just noted that unread.
i've just been told by the promoter (and the website echoes it) that Dawn is no longer on the Brooklyn date; dunno if she's out for the whole of Kimbra's tour now or what.

two weeks pass...

was honored to work with the talented @spencerzahn on this incredible record. i wrote this about two kinds of people i’ve encountered. Birds and snakes. those who fly thru life’s trials and those who slither and poison “how can a bird really know a snake.”https://t.co/s9xqE9Lqhf pic.twitter.com/pIOLJIf1xU

*yells at cat* clear my schedule

rob, Thursday, 17 January 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

everything that "spaces" does is delightful

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 January 2019 19:29 (seven years ago)

there is a ton going on. extremely into "dreams and converse," which sounds like Classixx without the detachment

rob, Thursday, 17 January 2019 19:34 (seven years ago)

<3 the beat on "vultures", lovely vocal performance too … oh wait, "we, diamonds" just came on. This whole section of the record is classic Dawn

Jeff W, Thursday, 17 January 2019 21:02 (seven years ago)

OK, all over. An admirably concise album (31 mins!), but lots to chew on.

Jeff W, Thursday, 17 January 2019 21:03 (seven years ago)

Yeah I liked the brevity. Her albums tend to density so they can be exhausting in a single sitting. The Rosalia album is ~30 mins too and I think the effect is similar

the new album is formally available today. Seems like maybe her most enjoyable album on first contact? "Dreams and Converse" slaps

monotony, Friday, 25 January 2019 04:51 (seven years ago)

all the love for this new album

Nourry, Friday, 25 January 2019 09:45 (seven years ago)

This is terrific, definitely shorter on the pyrotechnics but it's probably her strongest collection of songs. Disco Dawn definitely the most intriguing of the paths previously not taken here.

Matt DC, Friday, 25 January 2019 09:51 (seven years ago)

this is good and nicely of a piece but i definitely prefer pyrotechnic dawn. not that this is without its flourishes. spaces is the one imo

Good stuff.

pomenitul, Friday, 25 January 2019 19:11 (seven years ago)

The disembodied voices on the title track are really quite affecting in a way I can't put my finger on. The Trapgerine Dream backing even more so.

Matt DC, Friday, 25 January 2019 19:56 (seven years ago)

this gets better every time i hear it

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 28 January 2019 01:28 (seven years ago)

Love this album.

But also it’s funny to think that after so long this is arguably her album that is most reminiscent of Last Train To Paris.

Tim F, Tuesday, 29 January 2019 10:10 (seven years ago)

ok, now I have to listen

k3vin k., Friday, 1 February 2019 21:05 (seven years ago)

Brad otm. A friend and I assign each other albums to listen to every few weeks, and I've been wondering how best to introduce someone to Dawn. I think this is the one

rob, Friday, 1 February 2019 22:39 (seven years ago)

First time through this. "Vultures" is lovely.

Guys I just met Dawn Richard after her Glasgow show and it was INCREDIBLE. The show was amazing, she had remixed her whole back catalogue and presented it as a megamix including DDM and DK tracks and it was insane how much energy and charisma she had and how euphoric the music sounded. Then at the end she was hanging about so I chatted to her and she said she had actually spotted me dancing and singing along (!) and then she did a hilariously accurate impression of me (!!!). Then we took some pictures and she was like "nah let's do some silly ones" hence the posing but she was so much fun and easily lovable and I didn't think I could adore her more but here I am

boxedjoy, Monday, 15 April 2019 23:36 (seven years ago)

I mean im also quite tipsy but this might be the best night ever

boxedjoy, Monday, 15 April 2019 23:36 (seven years ago)

that's awesome!

Simon H., Monday, 15 April 2019 23:46 (seven years ago)

nice :) I've been hearing reports that the tour dates haven't been very well attended though, which is a shame

monotony, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 00:45 (seven years ago)

oh man, boxy love! <3

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 00:51 (seven years ago)

omg i love it

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:52 (seven years ago)

The Glasgow show was in a ~200 capacity venue and it wasn't so busy that I didn't have room to dance properly which is always my fear in small venues

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 07:44 (seven years ago)

I mean i can understand why it isn't a big draw - neither of her previous bands were actually that successful this side of the Atlantic and she is still a very niche artist. Which is a shame because it was easily one of the best gigs I've ever been to and the intimate venue really worked for it

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 07:46 (seven years ago)

very rad

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 15:30 (seven years ago)

cool picture. disappointing that she isn't more popular (just what does 2000 ILX posts get you these days???) but those small gigs are usually awesome.

frogbs, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 15:46 (seven years ago)

vultures on london tonight was intense. really good gig.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 22:33 (seven years ago)

and yes we are all diamonds even if we broken no not you hobbit man in front of me trying to video as much of gig as possible by holding his phone up in the air in front of him and then poring over it actually *during the gig*.

Fizzles, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 22:40 (seven years ago)

omg boxedjoy

new breed is so great

think the toledo mud hens but for twitter (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 30 May 2019 03:59 (seven years ago)

new breed is such a good album. I haven’t been rinsing it like I did her previous albums, I just play it on the regular and it’s always an intensely satisfying listen.

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 4 June 2019 20:28 (seven years ago)

otm. It’s casually brilliant in a way that makes it harder to rave about than say Blackheart
