― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 22:52 (seven years ago)
so weird that Kurt Ballou ended up producing their gentlest, most colorful album
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 22:59 (seven years ago)
unexpectedly almost two minutes shorter than cody
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 23:43 (seven years ago)

― princess of hell (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 15:53 (seven years ago)
that song really reminds me of early goo goo dolls (in a way that, say, beach slang approached but never got to)

If the second half were as good as the first I would agree, but I do think it falls off a teensy bit. Still great but I think Cody and Hungover are still tops for me
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Friday, 21 September 2018 13:50 (seven years ago)
ok but: the second half is better than the first
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 21 September 2018 13:55 (seven years ago)
hmmmmmmmm
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Friday, 21 September 2018 13:56 (seven years ago)

pls link that when it goes up!
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Friday, 21 September 2018 14:01 (seven years ago)
this band rules so much. i love how even within the niche they're carving for themselves, they're still making interesting songwriting decisions/calculated risks

BIG LIE
― Machine Gunk Jelly (Spottie), Monday, 8 October 2018 21:00 (seven years ago)

I never noticed the way she had it out for meI should suppose it's like that for everyone? So understated, we're never friendly anyhowJust tell me what you want me to do

ahhhh you did a great job! Barry seems like such a sweet, smart fellow.
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 October 2018 20:30 (seven years ago)
god I would love to hear the Joyce Manor discards/alternates vault (all like 30 minutes of it or whatever). iirc they recorded a long Smiths medley for Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired but I can't back that up at the moment
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 October 2018 20:44 (seven years ago)
i saw these dudes the other night ... hard to imagine a tighter rock band/show.
also, barry has to be the smile-iest frontman going, right?
― alpine static, Wednesday, 24 October 2018 15:15 (seven years ago)
Was anyone else there tonight in Islington? A real shame to see they have done 20+ songs and 2 encores everywhere else and tonight they complained Barry has had voice issues and it was just about an hour long. (Were dope for the hour tho)
― plums (a hoy hoy), Friday, 19 April 2019 21:23 (seven years ago)
it's wild that these guys have written like 30+ perfect songs
― Simon H., Sunday, 21 April 2019 12:50 (seven years ago)
First half of this comp, the early lofi stuff, is kinda revelatory (think a peppier Freed Weed-era Sebadoh):

only joyce manor could get me slightly stoked for a 15-minute rarities comp with a few songs I already know

OMD cover to start off the album.
― gman59, Friday, 10 June 2022 14:51 (three years ago)
haha, finally felt compelled to check this band out, ^that was not at all what I expected to hear first. a nice shock though, and if you're gonna cover a perfect song might as well put it up front.
― sloop johnnin' skater (geoffreyess), Thursday, 16 June 2022 23:09 (three years ago)
i did a discog run this week and i definitely overrated million dollars to kill me when it came out but it's a way better record than their fans think and "big lie" is still the best song ever
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 16:37 (three years ago)
cody is totally their best though. perfect, cohesive, breaks my heart
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 16:39 (three years ago)
codytie between never hungover again and the s/ttie between million dollars to kill me and 40 oz to fresnoof all things i will soon grow tired (hate to be someone who thinks of this particularly weird charming little record (in a catalog of weird charming little records) as their worst but something has to be)
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2022 16:42 (three years ago)
Cody is my favorite too.
― o. nate, Thursday, 21 July 2022 18:08 (three years ago)
new album is so good. kinda jangle?
― flopson, Wednesday, 4 February 2026 17:06 (four months ago)

bit of a dexter freebish vibe on 'well, whatever it was'
― flopson, Thursday, 12 February 2026 18:52 (three months ago)
really digging the rockabilly by way of X and Morrissey thing that a few tracks have. i was initially put off by the re-recording of the track from their demo days, but fuck it, i dig the drums and it flows well with the album. new songs are great live too, seamless fit with the old stuff.
― be the cowboy dan, Wednesday, 8 April 2026 04:31 (two months ago)
Every new album of theirs is welcome news but also tempered with the feeling of "here's another album that won't be as good as Never Hungover Again"...that said, this one does play really well and is an improvement on the one prior. I do think it is weird for a punk band to not have a consistent drummer, but it's not a dealbreaker.
― mr. milligan, Wednesday, 8 April 2026 13:40 (two months ago)
is never hungover again even their best album though? hungover, cody, s/t are basically masterpieces where every song is perfect. i don’t think the new one is on that level but it has great songs, i like the direction they’re going
― flopson, Saturday, 11 April 2026 14:56 (one month ago)
hope to see them live soon
i think cody is their best. i also think million dollars to kill me is ridiculously underrated
― ivy., Sunday, 12 April 2026 00:41 (one month ago)
20 minutes is kind of the ideal length for a pop punk album.
