the initial analogue i've thought of for the mewithoutyou album is a future lived in past tense
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 17 August 2018 00:12 (seven years ago)
anyway they dropped a surprise ep today that’s basically just as good as the album that comes out in early october

i think the tracklist for the album is totally amazing 1. 9:27a.m., 7/292. Julia (or, 'Holy to the LORD' on the Bells of Horses) 3. Another Head for Hydra4. [dormouse sighs]5. Winter Solstice6. Flee, Thou Matadors!7. Tortoises All the Way Down8. 2,459 Miles9. Wendy & Betsy10. New Wine, New Skins11. Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore12. Break on Through (to the Other Side) [pt. Two]
i should make a thread for it at this point but i'm p sure it'd sink like a stone
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:05 (seven years ago)
I will probably buy it just for the packaging

I miss The Starting Line every day (even if they're back together) and that Real Friends song has killed me
― tangenttangent, Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:25 (seven years ago)
Catching up on everything itt since the end of March and I am having the best time! Other highlights so far: Hopesfall, Charmer and Oso Oso (I like my emo as unambiguous as possible).
That new Ostraca EP is sounding wonderful too. They were high up my metal ballot last year and I expect will be on there again.
― tangenttangent, Saturday, 18 August 2018 21:34 (seven years ago)
been sleeping on Oso Oso, whenever i saw the name i just assumed it was chillwave

for those with a love for screamo, the Gillian Carter album out today is really strong - fantastic cover art, too
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Friday, 31 August 2018 18:21 (seven years ago)
got around to listening to the recent Senses Fail album. not bad. any recommendations of something with that sort of guitar work and melody, but minus the screamo?
― Nhex, Sunday, 2 September 2018 05:54 (seven years ago)
don't know what to call his stuff anymore, but the new Fred Thomas songs are fantastic

Brad, et al: Last night I listened to an album, Communication Breaks by Track Star, which I adored back in the day but had forgotten about for over a decade, and it rocked me. But judging by its YT views, it's all but forgotten by everyone. Track Star was Wyatt from Aislers Set and a friend. It's punky emo-y stuff with embittered lyrics (that also manage to be witty and winsome) and an awesome warbly piano-y guitar tone (on the lead guitar) that i love. Overall reminds me of (unsurprisingly) Henry's Dress but less outright punk. I'd like to know what you guys think. From 1999 I think. (Sorry if this thread is just supposed to be new stuff. Is it??)
The album is on YT. I'll post the opener

Faith/Void is album of the year, easily.
And 'Theme from "Embrace Nothingness" (part two)' is fucking everything. Straight to the gut. Anthemic.
It reminds me hardcore of Desaparecidos, especially the vocals from 2.29 on goddamn... My emo-scope may be that of a novice, but it's a compliment ok? Song of the year. Fuck.

this is beyond great. wanted to go to bushwick public house last weekend but had already gotten Sumac tix before I knew about any of this. however, on the way to that show a bus I was on didn't move for a very long period of time and "fuck this!" really resonated. anyhow, next time

huge compliment for me, i learned how to scream by singing along with desaparecidos (and also early taking back sunday and straylight run, john nolan is sorta my ideal tuneful screamer)

Was J-Church an influence? It gives me some early J-Church vibes at times. I love it BTW
― husked, tonal wails (irrational), Tuesday, 11 September 2018 17:36 (seven years ago)
i love the few j church songs i've heard but i've never quite managed to crack the discography! they're def an ambient influence though (i think our guitarist is pretty into them)

as I said previously in this thread, I love Basement. they're more '90s than so many bands that get tagged as '90s revivalists:
