not on DFA but I also picked up Holy Ghost / Soft Rocks remixes of MGMT "Of Moons Birds and Monsters"
Holy Ghost side turns it into their typical disco roller + has a dub version that cuts out the (almost Yes-sounding harmony) vox, Soft Rocks side I don't know if you'd call "balearic" or what but it's an acoustic guitar / live percussion mellow jam kinda like "Slowdown" on their Umut 2000 12"

dmr thx for the pineapples tip, those vocals ARE damn similar and that track is great
― psychgawsple, Thursday, 28 May 2009 19:17 (seventeen years ago)
no prob. that's a total classic ... Flexx put out a 12" reissue a couple years ago
― dmr, Thursday, 28 May 2009 20:05 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, that Pineapples is easily one of my top three Italo jams.
― matt2, Thursday, 28 May 2009 20:08 (seventeen years ago)
is there a lot of other italo out there with these types of gruff-yet-smooth male crooners?
also reminds me a touch of the male vox on that stardust tune, or even that barrabas edit on history clock.
― psychgawsple, Thursday, 28 May 2009 20:20 (seventeen years ago)
first thing that comes to mind is Studio's mix of "Possible"
― passed on the lead in "all i can do is crossups cuz ihave no skills" (jamescobo), Thursday, 28 May 2009 20:38 (seventeen years ago)
although I guess that's more balearic than italo but w/e
La Bionda (I Got Your Number), Lime (Your Love), Gino Soccio (various) ... ? varying degrees of gruffness there I guess

The singer of Pineapples was an african-american soldier stationed in italy or something.
― dan selzer, Thursday, 28 May 2009 21:25 (seventeen years ago)
maybe we should move this convo to an italo thread? but here are 2 of my fave gruff male singer italo tracks
― (jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Thursday, 28 May 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)
Babe We're Gonna Love Tonight def. runs through my head when I hear the DJ Kaos track (to bring things back around)
also that Surkin rmx of Juan Maclean is pretty good
― dmr, Thursday, 28 May 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)
vocalist from kano's "another night", "i need love", etc has that gruffness
do love that savage track

Some of this is really nuravey/super distorted and less the smoother two tracks mentioned above, but some of the best of nurave IMO.search:Chrome Knight (feat. Chromeo), basically white knights two with some great chromeo vocalsRadio Fireworks (Surkin 909 Edit)Radio Fireworks (Riot In Belgium Second Remix)Para One - Midnight Swim (Surkin Drowning Mix)DJ Mehdi - Lucky Boy (Surkin Remix)Boys Noize - Don't Believe The Hype (Surkin Mix No. 1)Teki Latex - Les Matins De Paris (Surkin Remix)
i wouldn't destroy much of his but it doesn't stand out the way this stuff does

― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:13 (seventeen years ago)
so excited about free energy album
― i've seen the way you've treated other fuxxors you've been with (Tape Store), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:16 (seventeen years ago)
urgh... based on the tracks on free energy's myspace they sound pretty damn insufferable dude. i was beginning to think dfa was becoming reliable or something.
BLACK METEORIC STAR, on the other hand, makes me want to forget all about it
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:30 (seventeen years ago)
i dig the free energy songs but they're the most un-dfa tracks i could imagine short of twee pop
― by my elbow a dirty wettex and a wine glass in my hand (electricsound), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:36 (seventeen years ago)
free energy is so corny -- lyrics are so generic
― autogucci cru (deej), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 06:02 (seventeen years ago)
ye whatever genre they're in they do not represent very well
i'm kind of a big twee pop fan, fwiw
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 06:05 (seventeen years ago)
DFA's webshop has the three black meteoric star 12"s available as a bundle with free posters, i see. are the full-length versions of the trax going to be available as digi-downloads or is this going to be a basic channel-type scenario?
― juniper jazz (haitch), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 06:11 (seventeen years ago)
welp the first one is avail as download so i would hope the other two will as well
― by my elbow a dirty wettex and a wine glass in my hand (electricsound), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 06:16 (seventeen years ago)
why is buying the bundle of 3 bms singles more expensive than buying 3 individual singles?shit is awesome, anyway.
― mizzell, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 18:07 (seventeen years ago)
so great that all the new 12"s are only $8- is this actually a new thing or do i just have a terrible memory?
really into that walter jones. also looking forward to altair's stuff!

ok, nm. think he's singing on 'i'll keep on loving you' and there's a girl singing on 'living w/o your love'

Walter Jones 12" is ridiculously good. when DFA get it right, they get it right.
― pipecock, Saturday, 13 June 2009 04:13 (seventeen years ago)
just came back from hearing justin and jacques (and lovefingers) dj at what used to be a sex club while dancing on the bottom of what used to be a small pool. I left early because I'm old, but it was pretty cool, even though I thought the false floor on the bottom of the pool above the lights seemed like it might let me fall through at any moment.
― dan selzer, Saturday, 13 June 2009 06:40 (seventeen years ago)
