the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:28 (seven years ago)

Omanko sounds like OLV 26

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:35 (seven years ago)

With a healthy dose of of Suicide as well as Stereolab

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 30 July 2018 12:37 (seven years ago)

oh yeah I was thinking that one too

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 30 July 2018 13:30 (seven years ago)

after seeing her interviews and clips of her live performances tho I really do worry NTMT was a fluke and her follow up could very well be a dud.

Is there a thread yet for "most disturbing pop songs to crack the top ten" yet?

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Monday, 30 July 2018 22:58 (seven years ago)

Pretty faithful to the original, but also very 2018.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 July 2018 23:07 (seven years ago)

that Elliot Smith cover upthread is disturbing

antisocal (rip van wanko), Monday, 30 July 2018 23:29 (seven years ago)

cover is surprisingly great for a scratch thing

anza808, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 03:31 (seven years ago)

yeah I was pretty impressed with his guitar playing - that is a hard song to play. no indication in any of DIIV's music that he can play that well. her vocals sound good, too. but it is a heroin song, given the circumstances of the time, i get why it's dark.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 04:21 (seven years ago)

the slight dip in the melody of "of" in "there must be something he's thinking of." is great.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 06:56 (seven years ago)

Great cover - on record at least she's always had about twice the vocal presence and intensity of Aimee Mann, so it's no surprise that she plumbs something more from this obviously good song than fools like me ever knew was there.

On the topic of the follow-up album, can't anybody Extraordinary Machine this shit? Free Sky!

It's like an Christian pop (thewufs), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 07:20 (seven years ago)

Aimee>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sky

President Keyes, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 13:21 (seven years ago)

Yeah, it's a good song for her, but as a demo it sounds pretty undercooked, and doesn't add much to the original.

I am glad that she's starting to put stuff out there and communicate more. I take it as a sign that we will get a new album before too long.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 13:45 (seven years ago)

excuse me

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 14:54 (seven years ago)

Well, she's louder...

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 14:55 (seven years ago)

idk I think the Kim Wilde comparison is otm

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 16:19 (seven years ago)

virtually every singer on the planet has at least twice the vocal intensity of aimee mann

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 16:32 (seven years ago)

Yeah, that's not really a challop at all. No slam on Mann, it's just her toolset.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 16:41 (seven years ago)

idk i guess i have a wide definition of "vocal intensity"

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 16:43 (seven years ago)

presence also

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 16:43 (seven years ago)

moodles is correct that sky is louder

one month passes...

Just heard this for the first time and I love it! It's the song Sky was born to cover. As much as I love the Till Tuesday version (and I really do!), I think Sky's vocals are superior Aimee's.

daavid, Tuesday, 25 September 2018 07:58 (seven years ago)

Also that bass is amazing! I don't have high hopes but it'd be great if they polished it a little bit and it became a proper release.

daavid, Tuesday, 25 September 2018 07:59 (seven years ago)

*superior to Aimee's

How did this cover become my favorite track of 2018? There's been a lot of good music this year but I keep coming back to this. Where's the fookin ablum?

Cousin Slappy, Monday, 15 October 2018 15:57 (seven years ago)

Mine too!

I’m releasing music this month 🥴 (for real)

The first song isn’t a pop song...because I really want to make a video for it (& I love it). I’m confident about all of the pop songs on my record so I decided to start with something different. 🤠

I think this is just a single, no? Either way, yes!

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 March 2019 02:33 (seven years ago)

I'm stoked thinking there'll be a Sky Ferreira album released in 2019. I avoid singles like I avoid movie trailers, but can't wait!

SKY FERREIRA RETURNS: THE MASOCHISM INTERVIEW

With an uncompromising vision and the studio hours to back it up, the enigmatic singer is back with a new single—and a promise that her first album in six years will be worth the wait.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 26 March 2019 20:40 (seven years ago)

Additionally, Sky is even more particular about her final mixes. She will only be satisfied after she’s evaluated her song in seven different listening contexts: a car stereo; a smartphone with “regular” headphones; a smartphone with Apple earbuds; a smartphone’s built-in speaker; on a laptop; through “really bad, bad computer speakers—like the ones that came with Dells back in the early 2000s”; and the lush splendor of the studio, which is a personal luxury because, as she notes, “most people aren’t gonna listen that way.”

lmao iconic
