What was the article I read where a not particularly old music writer (was it Petrusch?) played a bunch of music for teens and the teens though Black Flag sounded dad rock. That was awesome.

Trying to get my head around the idea of this as Dadrock.

My parents are in their late 50s, early 60s. They both went to an Imagine Dragons concert a few years ago.

That being said, when I think of my dad I tend of think of Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues, and that's not on here.

There's no tradition of Classic Rock stations in the UK, and most of these were UK hit singles, Led Zeppelin never had any hit singles.

My dad overdid it on edibles at Red Rocks Dub Fest, got disoriented/zoned out, and had to call for a ride home. True story (that he's too embarrassed to talk about).

My (UK) dad likes Ry Cooder, Steve Earl, John Martyn, he would not enjoy this compilation, though I did hear him once complain that Smashy & Nicey had ruined 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' so maybe there is a glimmer of something there.

Yes. When I started hearing the term dad rock Wilco was the headlining act. Dad rock was known to be that mellow adult alternative/indie sound that would often appeal to smart (dressed nicely) types because of difficult guitar playing.

Dad Rock for me was Chubby Checker.

Yeah, my own Dad wouldn't last five seconds into any of these songs. I mostly try to form conclusions from my observations of white Dads.

the dads i know were mostly young punks so i guess i'd vote for the clash song (bonus if it segued directly into the BAD song)

Btw, I wasn't suggesting that it's impossible for older men to like Imagine Dragons. (It wouldn't surprise me if my fiancée's Mum listens to them fwiw.) I just doubt that's the primary demographic of their audience, which is what "Dadrock" implies to me.

I'm still sort of "gobsmacked" (if I'm using that properly) to learn that Led Zeppelin are not really popular in the UK...

As an album band of course, but the Now That's Blah Blah Blah comps are based on Top 40 singles afaik.

I first remember the term Dadrock being used to invoke latter day Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene and sort of earnest grunting 'authentic' meaningful stuff with copious tasty guitar solos beloved of sundry ageing indie/mod types. It seems it might be different in the US though. I don't know where it came from originally.

My dad's favourite songs were "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and "Love Is In the Air" by John Paul Young (a particular favourite of dads I've found) and some Scottish folks, Irish rebel songs.

I have 3 kids and on road trips in our Honda Odyssey I make my kids listen to Can and Faust. My 6 year old daughter loves Amon Duul II, particularly the Yeti album.
