That "Where Could I Go But to the Lord" is balm to the nerves
Here's another hot one from Elvis Country:

Here is another lock for my Top 5. This isn't obscure, but it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It's absolutely perfect.

“Burning Love” is straight up bar rock. a Jerry Lee Lewis style rave up.
i love the apocalyptic lyrics.
It's coming closerThe flames are reaching my bodyPlease won't you help meI feel like I'm slipping awayIt's hard to breathAnd my chest is a-heavingLord have mercy,I'm burning a hole where I lay
its like a Cramps song
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 21 June 2018 16:14 (seven years ago)
OMG for the last 30 years I thought he was saying I'm burning the whole world away.
― kornrulez6969, Thursday, 21 June 2018 16:23 (seven years ago)
Burning Love is more like a Cars song than Cramps
― cr.ht (crüt), Thursday, 21 June 2018 17:17 (seven years ago)
Too bad he never recorded Fire. Bruce wrote it for him, and it would be a perfect companion to Burning Love.

I need a ton of these so keep sharing. These are some tests:

those are beautiful Moka!
― Bee OK, Friday, 22 June 2018 01:01 (seven years ago)
BTW, it will be ILM Artist Poll #90. Beatles solo was #89.
― Bee OK, Friday, 22 June 2018 01:02 (seven years ago)
Nice, those are some King-worthy images.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 22 June 2018 01:11 (seven years ago)
Thanks! I was just taking a guess before doing the real work... had no idea we’re at 90 now!
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 June 2018 04:51 (seven years ago)
Damn, Moka, you rule the roll of polls
― an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Friday, 22 June 2018 05:24 (seven years ago)
wow, Moka, looks amazing!
― niels, Friday, 22 June 2018 08:38 (seven years ago)
Nice, Moka!
Five days to go, we have two ballots so far, I'm hoping we can get to 20 at least, though I know that Elvis isn't really ILM hot property.
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 22 June 2018 10:47 (seven years ago)
Will definitely vote, but his catalogue is so vast with more hidden gems than most other artists.
― Dan Worsley, Friday, 22 June 2018 11:02 (seven years ago)
Any chance you can extend the deadline a week or so? It’s been done many times before.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 22 June 2018 11:29 (seven years ago)
Definitely voting. My ballot currently sits at 55 songs; I just need to shed a few and determine the final order.
― grawlix (unperson), Friday, 22 June 2018 11:41 (seven years ago)
I can but my ability to do the rollout is dependent on this deadline, since I'll be traveling the first half of July. If Moka can handle the rollout, though, my steady availability during the rollout isn't so important. I can handle the compilation of ballots but if Moka can do the rollout, then an extension works for me.
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 22 June 2018 11:42 (seven years ago)
xp
An extension would be nice as I’ve been invited from work as a guest to the world cup also at beginnings of July so I’ll be missing for a week
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 June 2018 17:02 (seven years ago)
Also I suggest a name change tonthe thread or a new one I just realized this is the voting thread! Maybe change it to
ARTIST POLL 90: ELVIS - Discussion and Voting Thread. (Deadline: 30/06/18)
Or something like that.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 June 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)
Whenever the rollout can happen, the deadline should be just before that. Moka, if you can do it the second week of July, then we can advance the deadline to the end of the first week. I can do a rollout the third week of July or the second half of next week, otherwise not until the end of August for a week, then not again until 2019. This is why I don’t volunteer to do polls...
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 22 June 2018 17:12 (seven years ago)
I’m usually free this came out of the blue. I can do the rollout second week of July. Just send me the results when you have them.
So can we change the thread title to a voting call to action?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 June 2018 18:04 (seven years ago)
Is this the definitive rendition of this song? Yeah...yeah, I think it is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9CfnBBsE0E
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 22 June 2018 23:08 (seven years ago)
Speaking about unofficial versions which I like better than the original, this mashup is one of my favorites:
Elvis & the Wailers - crying in the chapel
https://youtu.be/ozn_-NB_dwY
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 June 2018 23:49 (seven years ago)
Is this the definitive rendition of this song?
yes because no other version of this song I know contains the lines, baby baby I’d get down on my knees, if only this suit wasn’t too tight
― sciatica, Saturday, 23 June 2018 05:59 (seven years ago)
dang that is a hot version
yes, can we get the thread title changed to something like
POLLS! POLLS! POLLS! The Elvis Presley voting and discussion thread (deadline July 5 2018)
? how do we get this changed? is there a mod watching?
― droit au butt (Euler), Saturday, 23 June 2018 09:41 (seven years ago)
Post it on Moderator Request Forum.
― Dan Worsley, Saturday, 23 June 2018 09:48 (seven years ago)
ok thanks did that
― droit au butt (Euler), Saturday, 23 June 2018 09:53 (seven years ago)
I am listening to The Essential 60's Masters II, the soundtrack 2 disk comp. for the most part these are corny songs, but its style tourism (oh this is a "mexican" song, this is "middle eastern", etc.) is fun.

looking forward to this poll roll out. i always think of elvis catalogue as a goldmine at the bottom of a swamp.

No thread name change :/
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:45 (seven years ago)
ahh That's the Way It Is... could be argued every song he does in that is the "definitive version"
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 26 June 2018 17:46 (seven years ago)
are we still submitting ballots by end of day tomorrow?
also, not much love for the 50s stuff in this thread, though that’s not too surprising. I love some of it, mostly the sun sides, like the rca stuff but never listen to it and don’t think about it much. I have no idea how to rank it, it feels set in stone while everything from his hand in mine/elvis is back! forward feels like it can be argued over, picked apart, discovered anew—the kind of stuff that’s fun to see roll out in one of these ballot polls
― sciatica, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 04:39 (seven years ago)
No, the new deadline is July 5. I asked on the moderator board for a change but it was ignored. I just asked again.
― droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 08:08 (seven years ago)
I thought 70s stuff would dominate my ballot, because that's what I actually listen to most, but as I'm sequencing it the 50s stuff keeps bobbing up to the top.

Just got this email about an upcoming release. At first I thought, ok, cool, his gospel work is some of my favorite...hm, but only 14 songs...and...ugh, it’s like the Colonel never died:
Where No One Stands Alone, available August 10, celebrates the power and passion of Elvis Presley’s gospel music. The album features 14 of Elvis’ most treasured performances of inspirational music with newly-recorded instrumentation and a duet between Elvis and his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 2 July 2018 18:24 (seven years ago)
Yeah, these new-backing-tracks compilations they've been doing the last couple of years are a fucking nightmare. It's crazy that they could do something as good and valuable as Elvis At Stax and then turn around, bend over, and squeeze this out.
