Ween's a good spot!

There's another Spotify playlist here, the music they've been playing in the hour or so before they come on at shows

cockney rebel just occurred to me as well

The Desus & Mero Chain (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 23 June 2018 18:29 (seven years ago)

i somehow haven't posted on this thread yet, but this is obviously fantastic. "four stars out of five" is the obvious standout, but i'm really digging the final two tracks right now. "batphone" has my favorite piano part on the record and i love the slinky guitar and the chintzy synth. and "the ultracheese" is a beautiful country torch song, reminds me a bit of conway twitty and a bit of "on top of old smoky"

I think a lot of fans of the album might appreciate this from The Last Shadow Puppets, Alex Turner wrote this one on his own and it features no Miles Kane vocal either so it's essentially a solo song

That "moon's side boob" lyric, tho!

he's a total beaver

The Desus & Mero Chain (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 14:29 (seven years ago)

This album is still sounding great to me - the only track that I'm not keen on is 'Batphone', which doesn't seem to have grown on me all that much. Still, the rest of the album is fantastic.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 17:39 (seven years ago)

album reminds me of pulp this is hardcore a lot

i love this record but sometimes the vocals get in the way for me, after a whole record it is a little wearying..first half is absolutely solid tho and stellar closer

sleepy sweet (Ross), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:24 (seven years ago)

It doesn't remind me of This is Hardcore at all!

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 18:10 (seven years ago)

really just the song dishes i think tbh

do more people “get” this record now? bc it’s fucking amazing

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 April 2019 22:05 (seven years ago)

It's a good record that I haven't felt the need to listen to for months.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 9 April 2019 22:21 (seven years ago)

thanks anyone else

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 April 2019 22:44 (seven years ago)

i haven't put it on in a while but i still know all the words

difficult listening hour, Tuesday, 9 April 2019 23:05 (seven years ago)

I made a note to relisten.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 April 2019 23:54 (seven years ago)

thought it was amazing and their best and haven't been unconvinced of that yet.

Simon H., Tuesday, 9 April 2019 23:56 (seven years ago)

still think AM is their best but this album is also really good. there was a point where i couldn't stop listening to it and not a lot of albums do that to me anymore. this concert was also really, really good. it will be interesting what they do next.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 00:00 (seven years ago)

I think the first half is really strong, it peaks with 'Four Out of Five', and then the second half isn't as good as the first but has a couple of highlights ('She Looks Like Fun' and 'The Ultracheese') - The part where 'One Point Perspective' segues into 'American Sports' is still my favourite part of the album, and I have no time at all for 'Batphone'. I played the shit out of the album when it was first released, and while I still love the fact that it rubs fans of their earlier work up the wrong way, I think AM and Humbug are better albums.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 00:37 (seven years ago)

'star treatment' came on at the bar last nite and i couln't help but sing along to the whole thing

flopson, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 05:11 (seven years ago)

should do a trax poll

flopson, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 05:12 (seven years ago)

yeah, I love this record

josh winters (josh), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 06:13 (seven years ago)

Still love the best tracks, and the BBC live show thing from last year is up in full now on YouTube, featuring many older tunes 'done' in a
Tranquility Base style

piscesx, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 12:11 (seven years ago)

agreed with those who say this is their best album, disagree with those who have no time for batphone

to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:04 (seven years ago)

"Batphone" rules!

Simon H., Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:05 (seven years ago)

if anything I hope their next one pushes the sparseness even further just to annoy ppl

Simon H., Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:05 (seven years ago)

'Batphone' is one of the dullest things this band have ever done. An absolute waste of time.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:15 (seven years ago)

sorry, we're talking about the song "batphone" by the arctic monkeys, not "bananaphone" by raffi

to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:16 (seven years ago)

thanks again turrican for weighing in with the intellectual rigor of a youtube comment

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 14:18 (seven years ago)

Hey, I'm all for people wasting their own time, as long as it ain't mine.

three months pass...

put this on for the first time in a while and yeah still great. miles beyond the rest of their records

devvvine, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 14:46 (six years ago)

feels like the first thing they've done that both wholly makes good on their promise and removes all the negative influences

devvvine, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 14:47 (six years ago)

it's fantastic

one year passes...

This is so great even though I hate how the drums sound. Modern live drum sound I hear on everything from Jack white to lianne la havas.

TO THE SCORE

difficult listening hour, Saturday, 30 January 2021 09:16 (five years ago)

I don't mind the drums but *that* bass sound has been everywhere these last few years. I've seen Alex Turner talking about trying to get the bass to sound like Histoire de Melody Nelson.

What's up with the drums, do you think?
