also got King Sunny Ade's AURA for five bucks. Three tracks a side, 1984, seemed like it would be worth it. I love "Juju Music" and "Synchro Sound" and every other early 80's King Sunny I've heard, come to think of it.

There was an Illes record (the Hungarian prog band) record on the wall at this one store, priced at ninety bones. It was in this minimal sleeve, just the name of the band stamped on the front and few notes on the back that looked scrawled by hand. "Dedicated to Angela Davis." Really wanted to hear it but not prepared to drop that kind of cash on a record, even if I'll probably never see it anywhere else.

the other day I found the Slits untitled early sessions LP on Y records for 4 bucks, been looking for that since the late 80's. also got Martin Rev's 1st (?) solo LP on Lust/Unlust which is great.

no ecm, really? i thought they were common everywhere. or at least the friggin' koln concert and shit like that.

I actually own Koln Concerts! Think I swiped it from a radio station, though. Yeah, my local thrifts are huge on MOR dreck, I very rarely find obscure stuff.

Thrift shops in MA seem to pwn those in NY.

Also, re: Bill Staines-- I really like his record with Guy Van Duser! And Guy Van Duser's solo LP "Stride Guitar" as well.

what do folks know of that BIG LEGAL MESS label? they have some memphis gospel comp that looks interesting.

the junior kimbrough "early recordings" 10" would be a must-buy except that it seems very overpriced for an EP.

a lot of early flying fish stuff is just terrific rootsy singer/songwriter stuff. most of which has never been reissued i don't think.

yeah, i just opened one in greenfield. i have to advertise and do the flier thing and all that. and, um, get a sign for the front of the store. cuz hardly anyone knows i'm here yet. i gotta spam amherst and northampton too with propaganda. all the vinyl dudes will know soon enough.

i decided to go with the "soft" opening. cuz i still got chubb rock tapes to price and stuff. it's a small store, but it looks nice. i like it.

i bought 3500+ rap singles + other stuff on craigslist and i'm still wading thru all that. that was a good deal! lots of good stuff for 500 bucks. craigslist is cool. i make a phone call and three hours later a dude and his girlfriend kiki are unloading a panel truck full of records into my store.

yes, god's country! no more martha's vineyard for me! i love it here. noize night at the bar tonight! can't remember who is performing though.
