Orange Goblin record sounds like old Kiss if the boogie was more convincing.
Except for "Suicide Division" which sounds like Venom.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Saturday, 9 June 2018 12:36 (eight years ago)

For all the people who have been loving The Armed album, I just saw them play last night and it was easily the most fun I’ve had at a show in a long time. Sounded great, fun performance art stuff happening throughout, everything about it was incredibly positive and great. Love their sense of humor and love their band..

gman59, Sunday, 10 June 2018 20:32 (eight years ago)

if they come to the uk we'll be at the front

imago, Sunday, 10 June 2018 20:49 (eight years ago)

pow, new Funeral Mist in less than a week

https://funeralmist.bandcamp.com/album/hekatomb

No previews yet but I'm sure it'll be an unholy stormer.

Devilock, Monday, 11 June 2018 05:57 (eight years ago)

Good news, I love that band. Haven't paid much attention to new releases, I saw there's new Amorphis, Urfaust, Thy Catafalque and Drudkh records, any good?

Siegbran, Monday, 11 June 2018 07:28 (eight years ago)

Urfaust is wonderful, perhaps even their best (as long as you like their recent doom-ier sound)

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Monday, 11 June 2018 10:00 (eight years ago)

new Voivod in Sept!!!

Simon H., Monday, 11 June 2018 15:03 (eight years ago)

Yob's Our Raw Heart is fantastic. In context, the title track is more powerful than it was alone, which I would have found hard to believe.

Three Word Username, Monday, 11 June 2018 15:27 (eight years ago)

New Progenie Terrestre Pura EP is really good. They've clearly been listening to Dodheimsgard :)

imago, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 10:47 (eight years ago)

New Funeral Mist > new Marduk. But you knew that.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 18:11 (eight years ago)

I know I can get entirely too hung up on this stuff, but "Progenie Terrestre Pura" is something like pure terrestrial children, which, uh, sets off alarm bells.
So, is this like super racist sci-fi, only the pure left in the future?

I tried translating some of the lyrics, and I'm confident of the sci-fi part.

summervillain, Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:08 (eight years ago)

pretty certain they're not racist

imago, Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:09 (eight years ago)

all their lyrics are about robots and shit idk

imago, Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:09 (eight years ago)

Can't blame anyone for being jumpy but I'm pretty sure PTP are OK.

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:17 (eight years ago)

thanks for the thoughtful responses

summervillain, Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:19 (eight years ago)

it sounds pretty awesome!

summervillain, Thursday, 14 June 2018 13:20 (eight years ago)

new Anicon available to stream on their bandcamp page!

Simon H., Thursday, 14 June 2018 17:57 (eight years ago)

oh man their last album ruled

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 June 2018 18:09 (eight years ago)

This sounds good on first contact. Some little sonic additions I was not expecting.

Simon H., Thursday, 14 June 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 15 June 2018 16:23 (eight years ago)

Wow, the new Zeal & Ardor is good.

Frederik B, Saturday, 16 June 2018 12:36 (eight years ago)

It is undeniably ear-catching. I'm choosing to jettison the conceptual framework and embrace it as just a gospel-flecked rock record.

Simon H., Saturday, 16 June 2018 13:04 (eight years ago)

Grayson Currin's review in Pfork today offered a potentially viable defense of the concept, mind

Simon H., Saturday, 16 June 2018 13:29 (eight years ago)

Kinda, but I read the link where he supposedly 'smartly answered' criticisms, and I'm not sure I buy it. Whether or not an artist explains a concept to my satisfaction doesn't necessarily determine if I find the concept satisfying, though.

Frederik B, Saturday, 16 June 2018 13:36 (eight years ago)

Yeah, I'm choosing just to enjoy it as a hook-dense rock album.

Simon H., Saturday, 16 June 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

The sound really works this time, where on the first I thought it sounded a bit gimmicky. I love metal for constantly figuring out new sounds, and the dodgy ideas behind it comes with the territory.

Frederik B, Saturday, 16 June 2018 14:03 (eight years ago)

Face-peeling chaotic grind, female vocals, fucking great:

From Fallen Empire's newsletter:

Upon deeper introspection, it became clear that the path of continuity is not the one that should be followed. Instead, we divert, and march blissfully towards our demise.

Fallen Empire will end sometime during the back-half of 2018. In addition to the five new releases that are going up now, there are at least seven more that will surface before the year is out.

converge touring with neurosis (!!)

lost in sublimation (Ross), Wednesday, 20 June 2018 05:27 (eight years ago)

Just got a passive-aggressive email from a label saying, "If you don't check out these last two promos, we're culling you from our list!" and you know what? Fuck this band, and their label too.

"book-burning" antifa vs. "literally murdering people" fascists glad they jumped on the "freedom" side there

brilliant two-fer touring soon: Sumac + Dalek

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 12:30 (seven years ago)

Nice! Poor Dalek came to London a couple years ago to an audience of about fifteen to twenty people. I bought a shirt at least

Oranssi Pazuzu last night were great. And they ended with what felt, if anything, like an extended Vasemman Kaden Hierarkia, which was of course the song I'd spent £40 on gig tickets to hear. And they played it! And it was the best thing

imago, Friday, 22 June 2018 12:41 (seven years ago)

That awful promo is for the band Northern, formerly known as Cold Northern Vengeance. Their old identity has 12 monthly listeners on Spotify. The new one (the record came out in April) has 8.

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 22 June 2018 14:43 (seven years ago)

I'm not sure if these 5th rate idiots are even worth the attention. If a tree falls in the forest, etc.

Siegbran, Friday, 22 June 2018 14:45 (seven years ago)

if you have a tolerance for metalcore-y shit with electronic eleemnts (a la recent Code Orange) the new Vein record is really fun

Simon H., Friday, 22 June 2018 18:37 (seven years ago)

This Khanus track has me intrigued to hear the rest of the album:

enjoying the new Khemmis so far. they've played up more of the heavy metal side of their sound though the doom is obv still there.

lots of tasty harmonized guitar leads - rumor has it metalheads like that sort of thing? who knew

Can't link from my phone, but some very serious allegations have been made against Maynard from Tool/APC.

Simon H., Monday, 25 June 2018 17:26 (seven years ago)

jesus fucking christ that is horrible

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Monday, 25 June 2018 17:39 (seven years ago)

I saw APC that same summer and have a rather horrible feeling at the pit of my stomach pondering whether anything might have gone down there.

Simon H., Monday, 25 June 2018 17:43 (seven years ago)

Yeah, I saw that NIN tour too.

On a very different note, I get that Tom can do whatever he wants with his art, but Triptykon are a really fucking good band, and to see them reduced to a "special Celtic Frost set" because human-jukebox shows pay better is a fucking bummer.

grawlix (unperson), Monday, 25 June 2018 18:31 (seven years ago)

Yeah, the 80s kid in me drools over the all-CF set, but Triptykon is plenty exciting on its own.

A. Begrand, Monday, 25 June 2018 18:53 (seven years ago)

Can't find a single link on Maynard's misconduct? :-/
