so much so that I can't hear what Phil Spector brought to Season of Glass.
yeah I've never understood what that credit was about. Assumed he was involved with some early tracking or something.

kinda bummed none of the yoko double fantasy songs placed
"Kiss Kiss Kiss" the highest at 118. There was a relatively solid Yoko-voting contingent of about a dozen but there was a lot of vote-splitting.

lol yeah, it was great looking at alfred's ballot and seeing he voted for a bunch of approximately infinite universe tracks but they were all tracks that fell off the end of my ballot

Al’s list helped me figure out where to start and how deep to dig. I ended up creating three tiers of stuff and organizing it mostly that way. Even still, my top twenty was pretty conservative:1. Maybe I’m Amazed2. Watching the Wheels3. Jealous Guy4. Instant Karma5. Why6. Too Many People7. My Sweet Lord8. Photograph9. Nobody Told Me10. Let Me Roll It11. Band on the Run12. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five13. Letting Go14. Let ‘Em In15. All Things Must Pass16. Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp17. Arrow Through Me18. Isn’t It a Pity19. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)20. Ram On21. Badge22. I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier23. Mother24. Dear Boy25. Oh Yoko!26. Long Haired Lady27. I Felt Like Smashing My Face in a Clear Glass Window28. Magneto and Titanium Man29. Getting Closer30. I’m Carrying31. Summer’s Day Song32. One of These Days33. That Is All34. Handle With Care35. Jet36. Save the Last Dance for Me (from Pussycats)37. #9 Dream38. How Do You Sleep39. I Want to Rest My Love Tonight40. Approximately Infinite Universe41. Woman Power42. However Absurd43. Coming Up44. Every Night45. Silly Love Songs46. Awaiting On You All47. Beware of Darkness48. I didn't know this about Walking on Thin Ice:
Lennon's lead guitar work on the track, which he recorded on 4 December 1980, was his final creative act.[2] He used his famous Beatles era 1958 Rickenbacker 325 to record all the guitar parts. This is the first time that he used the guitar on a studio recording since 1964/65.

would've voted for more yoko stuff but i honestly don't know her albums really well and didn't really have the time to go through them. also ran out of time to listen to all of paul's stuff -- i listened to tug of war the day after i sent in my ballot and like it a ton more than i used to. with george i relied mostly on my fond memories of that blue "best of dark horse" cd i remember buying around the same time i got flaming pie. didn't hesitate much over my top choice -- lennon's vocal on that is almost absurdly gorgeous. one caveat is that i vaguely regret voting for woman which has some of lennon's dumbest lyrics, but the acoustic version really is nice.

Great poll, great discussion, fascinating results, and so much stuff discovered.
Surprised by the lack of love (relatively) for Beautiful Boy Darling Boy which I find to be a real heart-tugger every time.

ATMP is just ridiculous.

Yoko is also ridiculously cool.
with george i relied mostly on my fond memories of that blue "best of dark horse" cd i remember buying around the same time i got flaming pie.
seems like everyone had this (now deleted) comp! I got it through Columbia House in '90 at the peak of my Wilburys/Beatles obsession

I don't have enough knowledge (or frankly, interest) in solo Beatles to have participated in this, but it was highly interesting and informative anyway, thanks all! The Bonzo Dog Band/Klaatu/Cheech and Chong #1 rollout had me laughing so hard on the bus that fellow riders were looking at me.

Never could get into Ram, can’t stand Wings, Band on the Run is OK, really love half of McCartney and most of McCartney II. Had never heard Calico Skies or Jenny Wren before this poll and they’re both great, would’ve voted for them. But Junk and One of These Days mean a lot to me.
― flappy bird, Thursday, 7 June 2018 19:37 (eight years ago)
Listening to Junk the other day I was struck for the first time by how much it reminded me of One of These Days - the melancholy, the unforced prettiness nonetheless.

"Junk" is very nice, a very slight, but haunting, song that really captures the feeling of nostalgia. i like that most performances are just these little acoustic things. it's the kind of song that might be ruined by a big arrangement.
its such a nice waltz. that descending melody is so classic. it really goes with the whole "Doll's house" concept they were playing with during the White Album. Paul is so great at this style of stately nostalgia pop ("For No One", "Penny Lane")

My take on this is that the Beatles were a collective entity and of a different time. If you trace their solo styles back to 1968, though, my strong belief is that, throughout much of their lives, they made music that was on par with the White Album and Let It Be and Abbey Road and, as time went on, that they found many new ways to do that.

Ah crap, just realized I forgot “Mama’s Little Girl” – a bonus track from Wild Life. Killer acoustic Paul ballad. Deserved at least one vote.

never got around to it until this poll prompted me (even tho nine of the songs actually made it?) but 33 1/3 is dope as hell

Here's mine. I tried to simplify things by not including guest appearances but couldn't resist childhood favourite I Am Missing You by Ravi Shankar (which I was taken aback to hear again on Russell Brand's Desert Island Discs)My knowledge of Yoko's discography is woeful so basically excluded her but had to have Listen, The Snow I'd Falling in there. Most disappointed by low placings of: Lennon's Oh My Love and How?, probably lovelier than anything Paul managed post-Beatles. And by Back Seat of My Car only being McCartney's #7 placement: for me a perfect callback and distillation of pop music itself, in the mould of In My Room, transcending the mannerism of much of his solo work (which I greatly enjoy nonetheless).Song I'm sure would have placed higher if more people knew it: George's I Live For You. Quite beautiful: what a shame it was left off ATMP. Thank you to this thread for I introducing me to it – It Is 'He' (Jai Sri Krishna)" I'm Carrying seems to have been split into two: it's listed at #209 and #242. Combining them would bring it up to a slightly more respectable placing. It's great!A few songs I'm surprised to be the only one voting for, inc. The Other Me (which I'm sure someone else repped for upthread!) and The Man. Anyway: thanks Shakey. It's been a lot of fun. 1 The Back Seat Of My Car - Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney 2 My Sweet Lord – George Harrison 3 Imagine - John Lennon 4 Beware Of Darkness – George Harrison 5 I Live For You – George Harrison 6 Oh My Love - John Lennon 7 Oh Yoko! - John Lennon 8 Jet - Paul McCartney & Wings 9 I Am Missing You - Ravi Shankar Family and Friends 10 The Inner Light - Alternative Take Instrumental – George Harrison 11 I'd Have You Anytime – George Harrison 12 Isn't It A Pity – George Harrison 13 Jealous Guy - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band 14 Listen, the Snow Is Falling - John & Yoko & the Plastic Ono Band 15 Every Night - Paul McCartney 16 Crippled Inside - John Lennon 17 Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John & Yoko & the Plastic Ono Band 18 The Man – Paul McCartney 19 Look At Me - John Lennon 20 The Other Me - Paul McCartney 21 Wah-Wah – George Harrison 22 Live And Let Die – Paul McCartney & Wings 23 Magneto And Titanium Man - Wings 24 Say Say Say - Paul McCartney Michael Jackson 25 Instant Karma! So cool to hear that, and it confirms what Ringo said in the Anthology, that no matter how antagonistic things got business-wise, when they were working on good material, the bullshit went out the window.
(And I shoulda put "Gimme" on my ballot.)

Another small duplication, I think: (Just Like) Starting Over appears at both #43 and#241. Combine them and it rises six places to #37 by my reckoning

So this poll led me down a solo Beatle rabbit hole and I watched this last night:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07938WKMW
Any Amazon Prime members here might really enjoy it. It follows J & P throughout the seventies and features Klaus Voorman, Denny Laine and whole other host of ex-Wings members.
