"Coming Up" nowhere near my list. I didn't know deejays flipped the single over and made the live version the hit; I thought it was always so.

it's the fact that you simultaneously care too much and don't care enough that is funny

xp

Getting the sinking feeling that Sour Milk Sea isn't gonna make the cut...

I love the fact that 'Why' and 'Cold Turkey' were a tie, those two songs fit nicely together in my mind!

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:38 (eight years ago)

here is the part of the thread where everyone guesses what the top 10 is

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:41 (eight years ago)

is Denny Laine wearing bellbottoms as a shirt?

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:42 (eight years ago)

beginning to think the track i voted for as #1 has a real shot of being the actual #1

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)

ooh

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)

was it "press"

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)

'Why' is absolutely phenomenal, IMO. A good few years ahead of its time without a doubt. People who slag Yoko are fucking dickheads.

I thought '#9 Dream' would have been in the top ten... While 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' got to number one in the US, I don't think it deserved it any where near as much as '#9 Dream', which is one of Lennon's finest songs - easily as good as anything he did while in The Beatles.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:44 (eight years ago)

I really, really hope that 'Press' is in the Top 10!

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:45 (eight years ago)

i personally don't really get "#9 dream" but i'm not mad

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:46 (eight years ago)

In no particular order:

Jet
Maybe I'm Amazed
It Don't Come Easy
Oh Yoko!
Jealous Guy
What is Life
My Sweet Lord
God
Mother
No Words

Darin, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:46 (eight years ago)

i had given up on "no words" placing, i didn't know if it was *this* beloved. but if it does i'm thrilled, it's my top paul track

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:47 (eight years ago)

'#9 Dream' is all about the production and the string arrangement and the way the chords change on "I thought I could hear" and etc.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:47 (eight years ago)

xpost

Those predictions sound about right

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:48 (eight years ago)

#9 Dream is basically a track from All Things Must Pass

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:49 (eight years ago)

I'd be very surprised to see 'No Words', but fully expecting the cult of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band to help those twin pillars of millionaire whinge-rock climb the uppermost reaches of the chart.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:49 (eight years ago)

"wah wah" was too low btw

Yeah, I can hear that. It's kinda Lennon does ATMP but a few years later, although it's less bombastic sonically, I think.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:50 (eight years ago)

lol "#9 Dream" peaked at #9 of the Hot 100.

Dream bigger, Johnny! Number one dream.

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:51 (eight years ago)

millionaire whinge-rock

Is that a good or bad thing?

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:53 (eight years ago)

five songs on my ballot from mind games...

timellison, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:53 (eight years ago)

paul mccartney & whinge

been spending a lot of time in old beatles threads lately and this could be a geir post

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:54 (eight years ago)

i'm more sympathetic to that position than most and even i fuckin voted for "god"

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:55 (eight years ago)

"oh yoko!" for no. 1 if john must win though

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:56 (eight years ago)

This being ILM, thought Walking on Thin Ice may have made number one. Surprised it's outside the top 20.

Dan Worsley, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:57 (eight years ago)

hey i tried

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:57 (eight years ago)

Anybody else have recent-ish McCartney songs higher than "Jenny Wren?" Had seven and still had if fairly high.

timellison, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:58 (eight years ago)

The thing is Brad, Geir hated John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and I don't. Everything I said was correct, though, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band is a record that has a cult following (or as much of a cult following as a record can get as a solo record by one of the members of The Beatles), it was made by a millionaire, is a rock album and contains a fair amount of whingeing.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:59 (eight years ago)

Think there’s another John song coming, was in a hot Nike ad once upon a time iirc

i voted for "mr. bellamy" and "anyway"

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:01 (eight years ago)

'Instant Karma!'?

(xpost)

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:01 (eight years ago)

oh yeah there we go. sorry "no words" :(

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:02 (eight years ago)

I remember reading somewhere that McCartney wanted Thom Yorke to play on 'Mr. Bellamy', but Yorke refused because he wasn't sure if he could perform up to the required standard. I personally don't think he would have been suitable for the track, which I feel is one of McCartney's best late-period songs.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:03 (eight years ago)

Sad to see that Mind Games got no number one votes and then I remembered it got mine....

29 facepalms, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:04 (eight years ago)

oh i also voted for "beautiful night" which i was hoping would place, oh well

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:04 (eight years ago)

Xpost, my #1 was from Driving Rain

Dan Worsley, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:05 (eight years ago)

The two I had highest were "The End of the End" and "English Tea"

timellison, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:06 (eight years ago)

Miles and miles of English garden stretching past the willow trees lines of hollyhocks and roses

timellison, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

that song is amazing

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

Did you ever hear the demo of 'Beautiful Night', Brad? That song had been kicking around since the late '80s, circa 'Once Upon a Long Ago' ... it was originally part of a proposed album called Return to Pepperland which was supposed to have been the follow-up to Press to Play, but it got scrapped.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

oh yeah there's another paul album that's pretty much front to back great, chaos and creation xp

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:08 (eight years ago)

i didn't! i'm gonna look it up now

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:08 (eight years ago)

'The End of The End' is a favourite of mine, too - one of the most directly personal songs McCartney has ever written.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 20:09 (eight years ago)

um, so I have some bad news
