Might be my ears, but I can hear Johns vocal all over it.

'WHASSANAME?'

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 18:03 (eight years ago)

Lennon added one of the (many) interwoven guitar parts and, he says, the backwards piano.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 18:04 (eight years ago)

yeah, there are certain parts where i notice his presence. but the thing is, i guess, that bowie can and did perform the song live, absolutely slaying it. whereas, i can't really imagine what a live lennon version of the song would sound like, without bowie.

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 18:06 (eight years ago)

yeah I totally hear John's guitar in "Fame", and his vocal delivery

with "Many Rivers to Cross" John actually re-used the string arrangement for one of his own songs iirc

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

so just out of curiosity, where did they end up on your ballot, roughly speaking?

as the poll-runner, I am going to be "submitting" my ballot last

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

(xposts) "Photograph" still my favourite solo-Beatle single.

finally made it to the fireman records. i'm sure this can be written off as competent ambient techno but i loooove it

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 19:20 (eight years ago)

kinda reminds me of the softer tracks on beaucoup fish

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 19:26 (eight years ago)

i guess an unspoken subtext of that second fireman record is that it's the first thing paul put out after linda died and her voice is all over it :(

"fluid" is extremely beautiful

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 19:53 (eight years ago)

^^^ this could also be online beatles fans misleading me bc i can find no external confirmation of it

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 19:54 (eight years ago)

I know there's a couple of things on Driving Rain that are about Linda - 'From a Lover to a Friend' being one, which is one of my favourites from that record. Run Devil Run, the rock'n'roll covers album, was his first post-Linda album under his own name.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 20:02 (eight years ago)

I remember when Run Devil Run first came out that some perceived McCartney delving back into the rock'n'roll stuff that he loved when he was younger as being a form of therapy for him after Linda's death.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

For sure I'm voting for RDR's "No Other Baby," one of the greatest vocals of his career and maybe the only time he's ever sounded anguished.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 20:07 (eight years ago)

only a couple days before the deadline so get those ballots in folx

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:26 (eight years ago)

i'm nearly done! i can only fit in like three more songs anyway lol

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:28 (eight years ago)

I'll quit dithering and put mine together tonight.

WilliamC, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:29 (eight years ago)

everyone pls vote for the fireman's "fluid" with me

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:32 (eight years ago)

would I vote for it?

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:39 (eight years ago)

idk it's really pretty and 11 minutes long

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:40 (eight years ago)

lol clever dig

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:44 (eight years ago)

lol actually my ballot is exactly at 100 rn. maybe i’ll just turn it in. can’t imagine cutting any of these very important wings songs

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 21:52 (eight years ago)

Voted for two Run Devil Run tracks, "Bluejean Bop" and "Movie Magg."

timellison, Tuesday, 29 May 2018 22:04 (eight years ago)

lmao twin freaks is AWESOME. lol’d hard at the “live and let die” remix

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 May 2018 22:40 (eight years ago)

the definitive "mumbo"

noel gallaghah's high flying burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:08 (eight years ago)

flaming pie is a really nice record, feels like what tug of war wanted to be (idk if that makes any sense)

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:31 (eight years ago)

hey good recommendations y'all, been checked out for a while but thread has delivered

now I gotta relisten to ATMP

sleeve, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:39 (eight years ago)

Brad

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:39 (eight years ago)

what

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:47 (eight years ago)

also that wasn't a dig earlier, it is hard for me to tell if the fireman is pedestrian ambient techno or legit good ambient techno, all i know is it was perfect desk job music

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:48 (eight years ago)

I like "Fluid"

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:51 (eight years ago)

you know, we tend to forget how solid Flaming Pie is, which got the same good reviews the late 2000s album did and is also forgotten.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:54 (eight years ago)

wow "Wah-Wah" is awesome, had totally forgotten about it

sleeve, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 01:04 (eight years ago)

Voted!

If I'd tried to rank every single song, I'd have been fiddling with it for another week, so I ranked the absolute cream, then broke the rest into tiers and ran each tier through a randomizer.

WilliamC, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 02:25 (eight years ago)

Flaming Pie is very good, yeah - although I'd cut maybe 3 tracks from it to shorten it a bit. 'Beautiful Night' and 'Calico Skies' (which also sounds great in its live incarnation with full band) are both all-time McCartney for me.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 06:35 (eight years ago)

shakey, how important would you say it is that ballot artists are labeled correctly? (say I might confuse Plastic Ono Band with John Lennon or Wings with Paul McCartney...)

niels, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 07:08 (eight years ago)

I like "Fluid"

― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 00:51 (ten hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

and fluid if you disagree...

Mark G, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 11:13 (eight years ago)

i got really high last night and listened to chaos and creation for the first time. that album is outstanding

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 12:07 (eight years ago)

can I do a mixed ballot?

what do you mean?

― Οὖτις, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 10:05 AM (one week ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I was wondering this too, mixed meaning part-ranked and part-unranked

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 13:37 (eight years ago)

can i vote for paul’s “black beatles” vine

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 13:46 (eight years ago)

wait do I have to list the artist as well as the track title? if so, what is the correct format?

sleeve, Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:29 (eight years ago)

Artist - Title

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:30 (eight years ago)

wasn't really feeling driving rain and "freedom" is an atrocity but i had to find room for "rise the raindrops" on my ballot

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:32 (eight years ago)

er rinse*

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:33 (eight years ago)

I've always wanted to like Rinse the Raindrops more than I do... the title line will pop into my head but then I'll put on the full song and it just kinda wears me out.

noel gallaghah's high flying burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:42 (eight years ago)

I can imagine an enthusiastic Paul protest song called "Raise the Raindrops!"

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 May 2018 14:44 (eight years ago)
