Ringo sings "Photograph" like a normal person, which gives it its pathos. It's what I also love about Vanessa Williams' "Save The Best for Last."

I would remind everybody not to forget collabs like the Wilburys, David Bowie's "Fame", Nilsson's "Pussycats", the Fireman, etc. These are all eligible

i'm struggling with these two, to be honest. "Fame" is one of the best pop hits of all time, imo, but i can barely hear john in it. i can hear the trademarks of bowie all over it, but really i only notice lennon's presence in the lyrics? that might just be me. so i'm not sure whether to credit lennon with co-writing one of my favorite songs, or banish it to the lower stretches of the top 100. same kinda deal with "many rivers to cross" (although i think it leans a lot more on the mid-70s lennon sound than "fame")

yeah, there are certain parts where i notice his presence. but the thing is, i guess, that bowie can and did perform the song live, absolutely slaying it. whereas, i can't really imagine what a live lennon version of the song would sound like, without bowie.

finally made it to the fireman records. i'm sure this can be written off as competent ambient techno but i loooove it

i guess an unspoken subtext of that second fireman record is that it's the first thing paul put out after linda died and her voice is all over it :(

I know there's a couple of things on Driving Rain that are about Linda - 'From a Lover to a Friend' being one, which is one of my favourites from that record. Run Devil Run, the rock'n'roll covers album, was his first post-Linda album under his own name.

I remember when Run Devil Run first came out that some perceived McCartney delving back into the rock'n'roll stuff that he loved when he was younger as being a form of therapy for him after Linda's death.

For sure I'm voting for RDR's "No Other Baby," one of the greatest vocals of his career and maybe the only time he's ever sounded anguished.

you know, we tend to forget how solid Flaming Pie is, which got the same good reviews the late 2000s album did and is also forgotten.

If I'd tried to rank every single song, I'd have been fiddling with it for another week, so I ranked the absolute cream, then broke the rest into tiers and ran each tier through a randomizer.

Flaming Pie is very good, yeah - although I'd cut maybe 3 tracks from it to shorten it a bit. 'Beautiful Night' and 'Calico Skies' (which also sounds great in its live incarnation with full band) are both all-time McCartney for me.
