Not sure about how I feel with beach house referencing epic by FNM on Woo

Girl of the year is like cars drive levels dreamy

Not bad. A little wishy-washy but it's dreampop! What makes me suspicious: the tunes seem to unfold/unwrap themselves already after the first listen. I fear diminishing returns. The closer "Last Ride" is pretty vacuous.

Record sounds a lot like the cover

Similar to tender buttons in the sense that a lot of the action seems to come spatially in the left and right whereas the vocals are in the middle. Like on lemon glow - the synths or guitars whatever they are attack on the left and right but the song anchors in the middle.

Dunno really like this record. Sounds like bsides and slow burners

Woo has to be one of my favourite things they've ever done

I only just now found out that Sonic Boom from Spacemen 3 produced this.

this is the album i've always wanted them to make, easily their best. they've broadened their sound and largely replaced the retro organs and arpeggios with huge walls of synths and distortion. the most stylistic variation on a single album of theirs too, their previous albums could get quite same-y. all the songs are excellent too

Nice enough dream pop/shoegaze

So densely produced I’ve noticed new sonic details every time, gives the record replayability

It’s cool on L’inconnue how it’s ambiguous if that’s a slide guitar near the end or a synth. I would be interested to see this played live

I haven't heard a Beach House album since the first three, diving into 7 now.

I've spent a week trying to fall in love with this record, it's just not happening. Apart from Black Car there's nothing I get a thrill of excitement from. And I am a huge fan, devoured and savoured every album rapturously since Devotion.

this is really good though it also feels like they've drifted far enough into shoegaze territory that their sound is less distinct compared to e.g. slowdive or cocteau twins

Maybe it'll click. Love the Cocteaus, Spacemen 3 etc etc.

What I like about this is how the abstraction of their lyrics match music that supports that ambiguity

I think it still feels distinct compared to the dream-pop canon of Slowdive, Cocteau Twins etc. as despite the added distortion this time around they're still much more synth/organ heavy than either of those bands ever were

Before this, the most time I'd ever spent with a Beach House release was the 7" version of "Used to Be" a decade ago. Always gave the albums a once over and then moved on. This one grabs me in a way the band never had.

i'll need to listen to this more, i love this band so much but apart from devotion and depression cherry most of their records didn't open up for me immediately

I feel total trust in the universe knowing a song like L’’Iconnue came out of it

The counting to seven in French bit is wonderful.

Couple sonic details I like

The metallic hi hat in the right channel on dark spring

The slide effect near the outro of l’iconnue which I’m
convinced is an organ fed through a pitch shifter effect

On tour so don't slouch!

Lose your smile woo and girl of the year are a perfect trilogy. Walking in sun to this and felt like I could do anything

I love this album so much. I was obsessed with Teen Dream and Bloom, then I kind of lost interest around Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars (don't know why!) and skipped that era, but now I'm back on board. I need to revisit those two previous records as well.

Kinda feel dc and stars were just dry runs for this new record. They sound like demo albums in comparison to 7

I love those records but 7 excels in every way at pushing that sound forward

One of my fav moments is the voice going “yes!” In woo after Victoria says “I won’t give up”

i think they said the previous two albums were an attempt at going back-to-basics after Bloom was bigger-sounding
