nxd, Friday, 11 May 2018 15:54 (eight years ago)

I know it's only hipster shit but i like it. 1st at 2018 RYM list already what can you expect.

P.s not ALL music played at urban outfitters is bad:)

nostormo, Friday, 11 May 2018 15:56 (eight years ago)

yeah well, at least it's knocked Car Seat Headrest off top spot

imago, Friday, 11 May 2018 15:57 (eight years ago)

Well THAT is some generic hipster shit right there

nostormo, Friday, 11 May 2018 15:59 (eight years ago)

sounding great on contact, lots of rap sample fodder on this

yeah, i'm shocked that some Soundcloud dude hasn't already jacked Lemon Glow for a banger. it's readymade, just add ad-libs.

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 16:03 (eight years ago)

Beach House and Arctic Monkeys understandably get most of the attention today, and they're okay. I'd feeling these more:

Death And The Maiden - Wisteria: Second album of dream pop/post-punk from New Zealand group.

https://fishriderrecords.bandcamp.com/album/wisteria

The Third Sound - All Tomorrow's Shadows: Third album from Italian psych noir band based in Germany.

Damn tonight this is out! Sign me up for the listening party

Ross, Friday, 11 May 2018 16:52 (eight years ago)

three tracks in this sounds like pure-grade hipster syrup

Pay No Mind rubbed me the wrong way—one of the chord progressions made me grind my teeth—but the rest of the album is lovely.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 May 2018 16:58 (eight years ago)

Oh wait, wrong song. It was actually Dark Spring. Remove the first track of the album, and the rest of it's a delight.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 May 2018 16:59 (eight years ago)

have never been really into them but this sounds quite nice if not groundbreaking or anything

glad they went more in the direction of Sparks from Depression Cherry

ufo, Friday, 11 May 2018 17:01 (eight years ago)

Yeah dark spring does nothing for me

Ross, Friday, 11 May 2018 17:17 (eight years ago)

It’s not their best opener, but I do love the abrupt transition into Pay No Mind.

Dark Spring gives me Ladytron - Velocifero vibes.

KevRus, Friday, 11 May 2018 18:07 (eight years ago)

L’iconnue sounds like Claire hamill

Ross, Friday, 11 May 2018 19:03 (eight years ago)

Might end up being my favourite beach. Weird amorphous shit

Ross, Friday, 11 May 2018 19:10 (eight years ago)

so many hidden gems to find in this album

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)

Not sure about how I feel with beach house referencing epic by FNM on Woo

Peaked redundancy (Ross), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:43 (eight years ago)

Girl of the year is like cars drive levels dreamy

Peaked redundancy (Ross), Friday, 11 May 2018 19:49 (eight years ago)

Not bad. A little wishy-washy but it's dreampop! What makes me suspicious: the tunes seem to unfold/unwrap themselves already after the first listen. I fear diminishing returns. The closer "Last Ride" is pretty vacuous.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Friday, 11 May 2018 20:21 (eight years ago)

I love beach house

Blood roses (Ross), Friday, 11 May 2018 21:28 (eight years ago)

WOW

Bee OK, Friday, 11 May 2018 23:34 (eight years ago)

Drunk in LA sounds like it could be a brand new Slowdive song. Love this and is right up my alley

Bee OK, Friday, 11 May 2018 23:35 (eight years ago)

xps agree with the claire hamill comp

nxd, Saturday, 12 May 2018 12:11 (eight years ago)

Cheers nxd

Record sounds a lot like the cover

Blood roses (Ross), Saturday, 12 May 2018 13:27 (eight years ago)

Similar to tender buttons in the sense that a lot of the action seems to come spatially in the left and right whereas the vocals are in the middle. Like on lemon glow - the synths or guitars whatever they are attack on the left and right but the song anchors in the middle.

Blood roses (Ross), Saturday, 12 May 2018 13:32 (eight years ago)

Dunno really like this record. Sounds like bsides and slow burners

Blood roses (Ross), Saturday, 12 May 2018 13:34 (eight years ago)

Woo has to be one of my favourite things they've ever done

ufo, Saturday, 12 May 2018 13:38 (eight years ago)

I only just now found out that Sonic Boom from Spacemen 3 produced this.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 13 May 2018 08:29 (eight years ago)

I love woo xpost

Love how the name seems to come from that vocal sample that goes whoooooah

Roll (Ross), Sunday, 13 May 2018 15:03 (eight years ago)

Co-produced with Beach House
Xpost

nostormo, Sunday, 13 May 2018 18:26 (eight years ago)

this is the album i've always wanted them to make, easily their best. they've broadened their sound and largely replaced the retro organs and arpeggios with huge walls of synths and distortion. the most stylistic variation on a single album of theirs too, their previous albums could get quite same-y. all the songs are excellent too

ufo, Monday, 14 May 2018 02:37 (eight years ago)

Nice enough dream pop/shoegaze

curmudgeon, Monday, 14 May 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

So densely produced I’ve noticed new sonic details every time, gives the record replayability

Depressed and impressed (Ross), Monday, 14 May 2018 14:12 (eight years ago)

Pay No Mind giving off heavy Disintegration vibes.

vmajestic, Monday, 14 May 2018 15:20 (eight years ago)

Plainsong, particularly...

vmajestic, Monday, 14 May 2018 15:20 (eight years ago)

It’s cool on L’inconnue how it’s ambiguous if that’s a slide guitar near the end or a synth. I would be interested to see this played live

Depressed and impressed (Ross), Monday, 14 May 2018 17:15 (eight years ago)

This is the album they have veered towards making all their career. Breathtaking stuff.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 14 May 2018 23:52 (eight years ago)

They've never flown this close to the Cocteau Twins.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 15 May 2018 00:05 (eight years ago)

This is that shit

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 19 May 2018 17:54 (eight years ago)

Woo,
Girl of the year and lose your smile are three of my top 10 beach house now

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 21:06 (eight years ago)

I haven't heard a Beach House album since the first three, diving into 7 now.

The Harsh Tutelage of Michael McDonald (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 19 May 2018 22:58 (eight years ago)

I've spent a week trying to fall in love with this record, it's just not happening. Apart from Black Car there's nothing I get a thrill of excitement from. And I am a huge fan, devoured and savoured every album rapturously since Devotion.

startled macropod (MatthewK), Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:03 (eight years ago)

Xpost to Matthew - that’s ok bud

Ross, Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:14 (eight years ago)

Glad I’m not the only one

calstars, Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:19 (eight years ago)

It's pleasant enough. Might be a grower.

The Harsh Tutelage of Michael McDonald (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:28 (eight years ago)

this is really good though it also feels like they've drifted far enough into shoegaze territory that their sound is less distinct compared to e.g. slowdive or cocteau twins

ciderpress, Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:33 (eight years ago)

Maybe it'll click. Love the Cocteaus, Spacemen 3 etc etc.

startled macropod (MatthewK), Saturday, 19 May 2018 23:48 (eight years ago)

What I like about this is how the abstraction of their lyrics match music that supports that ambiguity

Ross, Sunday, 20 May 2018 00:06 (eight years ago)

I think it still feels distinct compared to the dream-pop canon of Slowdive, Cocteau Twins etc. as despite the added distortion this time around they're still much more synth/organ heavy than either of those bands ever were

ufo, Sunday, 20 May 2018 03:57 (eight years ago)

It's the same ebb and flow for me and Beach House were I will intensely love an album for a short period of time, not care about it for several months, see years, and go back it and love it even more.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 11 August 2018 01:57 (seven years ago)

Sparks was so good when it came out ; DC didn’t get any better than that

calstars, Saturday, 11 August 2018 01:58 (seven years ago)

levitation is probably the best dream pop song of all time so it does get a bit better

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Saturday, 11 August 2018 03:02 (seven years ago)

They’re neither a singles or an album band. They work in small doses.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 11 August 2018 07:38 (seven years ago)

lol what!

Dunno I love all their records and listened to 7 religiously. Sure sometimes a break is needed but this is an albums babs

KevRus, Tuesday, 23 October 2018 04:58 (seven years ago)

One of the most straight-up rock songs they've done.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 23 October 2018 05:19 (seven years ago)

I saw Beach House and My Bloody Valentine at the same venue, within a month of each other, this year. Both were loud, dreamy, and had spectacularly colorful animated projections. With this song, Beach House have more or less turned into MBV. So I want them to form a supergroup now, even though both groups seem sort of insular and might just cancel each other out.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Wednesday, 24 October 2018 02:36 (seven years ago)

My Bloody Beach House

Something’s coming on Monday? I’m thinking either a live album, or *maybe* a surprise new release like TYLS? (probably wishful thinking)

My album of the decade
