flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 10 May 2018 20:59 (eight years ago)

Due to events out of my control, that needs to be the extent of today's reveal. More fun for tomorrow tho!

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Thursday, 10 May 2018 20:59 (eight years ago)

this was the first solo Bjork song I heard and will always be one of my favorites

Dan S, Thursday, 10 May 2018 21:05 (eight years ago)

This was my #1, when I was in college I would listen to this over and over again and it filled me with such joy. I was particularly obsessed with this version, of which 3:25 onward is prob my fav Bjork *moment* of all time, the held-down organ killls meeeeeeee

I didn't much like it at the time -- the one Debut song hampered by the production -- but I GET IT now, or at least I got it 15 years ago.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 10 May 2018 21:09 (eight years ago)

I sing this while I ride my bike a lot, like not even deliberately but out of some sort of habit/muscle memory thing, I've done it for prob like 10 years

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 10 May 2018 21:09 (eight years ago)

ALSO this version from MTV Unplugged/Debut Live from 4:08 to like 4:25 how the two organs sound like they're dancing around each other

ALSO ALSO the Plaid remix is gorgeous and really IDM-y, it's the version she performed during the Post tour and this video of it (starting at 36:13) is also incredible

The aforementioned "Scary" was in my top 10. Guess I can safely stop anticipating an appearance.

So glad "Black Lake" made it. *recommences weeping* Also suggests that "Stonemilker" is much, much more likely in the top 20 than out beyond #60. Bless.

Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Thursday, 10 May 2018 22:01 (eight years ago)

Ooh, I also have discovered myself singing Björk on my bike, though I think it was either "I Miss You" or "Isobel," or both. Does Björk ride a bike in any of her videos? ... Googling suggests that the Björk to sing on a bike properly should be "Motorcrash."

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Thursday, 10 May 2018 22:33 (eight years ago)

I should have had Black Lake higher on my list. I always forget just how powerful it is.

Hmm. No cars in sight. Post-automotive dysutopia, all motorcrashes completed.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Thursday, 10 May 2018 22:58 (eight years ago)

doesn’t she ride a bike in “Triumph of a Heart”?

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 11 May 2018 00:40 (eight years ago)

I don’t remember. She rides a car to a party and then she’s walking hungover the next day and mr. Cat picks her up also driving a car.

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 13:31 (eight years ago)

great first-place vote

ayyy

lowercase (eric), Friday, 11 May 2018 13:36 (eight years ago)

Woot! Totally dig the leisurely addition of layers up to the heavenly "let's unite" section.

Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Friday, 11 May 2018 13:43 (eight years ago)

Another simultaneously ambitious, delicate and peaceful track, I guess rightfully the best of that 5-track string of songs closing Vespertine (even though I like Heirloom a lot, and Sun in my mouth even more). I think "Harm of Will" must have been lost somewhere in the poll, I can't see it break 700, though it's of course very nice.
I also think Stonemilker / Who is it should be the guests to the early-career party (I so should have voted for Stonemilker). Excited to see in what order all those tracks will place. I hope for very good places for Hidden Place, Undo, Venus as a Boy and Isobel. And to see Aeroplane. Not too concerned for the others.
And I think all the tracks I like slightly less (relatively, I love Björk so it's just grumbling and being assish finicky) have already placed, Big Time Sensuality being the last of them :)

18. It's Not Up To You (Vespertine, 2001) -- 743.5 points; 20 votes; 1 first-place vote

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:03 (eight years ago)

yay! almost made my top 5.

challops trap house (Will M.), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:04 (eight years ago)

hope the third draft of my ballot helped push this song this far

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

When a few of you on Wednesday mused on replacing Vespertine album tracks with B-sides, I thought you were cracked. Here's why.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

This was very, very close to the top of my ballot.

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:07 (eight years ago)

A surging ode to passivity, I can 100 percent sign onto that.

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:07 (eight years ago)

Early favorite :) so brooding and playful, love the lyrics, like following a typical Björk day, the regular organ is like counting time, love how she drags the vocals and then there's this illuminating chorus lifting you up by surprise with this big excess of strings / choir.

Nabozo, Friday, 11 May 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

also must say once more those images are moving from great to gorgeous

17. Possibly Maybe (Post, 1995) -- 780 points; 20 votes

nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:34 (eight years ago)

Another good organ line.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:35 (eight years ago)

this was almost my no. 1 and it's way too low

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:38 (eight years ago)

perfect use of the organ's lower register

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:38 (eight years ago)

since we broke up
i'm using lipstick again

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:39 (eight years ago)

I gotta try that line

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:39 (eight years ago)

as much as i definitely enjoy solitude
i wouldn't mind
spending a little time with you
sometimes

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:40 (eight years ago)

it's like bjork wrote a song about every relationship i've ever had from beginning to end

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:41 (eight years ago)

no one uses adverbs like björk lol

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:42 (eight years ago)

Brilliant song.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 11 May 2018 14:47 (eight years ago)

I don't know if there's 16 songs in whole of recorded history that are better!

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:48 (eight years ago)

otm

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:48 (eight years ago)

no number ones tho

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 14:48 (eight years ago)

OK just checked my ballot, I put this far too low down (have been listening to the Post Live disc today and the version on there is great).

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 11 May 2018 14:49 (eight years ago)

I like the space and freedom she gives herself in this one, there's still something a little jazzy and retro. One of these delightfully slow and tranquil songs, almost decadent but it's not this. Lyrics brilliant again, and what a great title for a love declaration. I haven't listened to it nearly enough.

Nabozo, Friday, 11 May 2018 14:56 (eight years ago)

Does ILX know how wrong it is to put Possibly Maybe outside of the top ten? Probably not.

obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Friday, 11 May 2018 15:04 (eight years ago)

i put it as my #11

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 15:08 (eight years ago)

björk has a lot of really good songs

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Friday, 11 May 2018 15:08 (eight years ago)

tooo looow

the Painbody Backpack (sciatica), Friday, 11 May 2018 15:09 (eight years ago)

jeepers i don't think we're getting anything that isn't on the first 4 albums anymore!
