V-Proc is their funkiest tune

brand new universal harvester (dog latin), Thursday, 3 May 2018 06:49 (eight years ago)

Move of 10 is one of the most immaculately produced (recorded, mixed, mastered) albums (ep?) i've ever 'eared. It's crisp, crystalline and massive. Etchogon-S doesn't appear in many 'top ___' lists, but it's a banger - in a sense where all of its components have been dismantled, reassembled poorly, then sent hurtling down the motorway, top speed, barely maintaining proximity (strewn apart), objects trying to function, f(l)ailing etc. - but it's still going (strong inertia), in a decrepit state, parts still moving (out of order), attempting to reset / connect.. just a fuckin mess. it's ace

y7 is a funny bone (ear) tickler, a bristled brain massage.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Thursday, 3 May 2018 06:50 (eight years ago)

it took four or five plays but i'm finally realising the imperial majesty of gonk steady one. still haven't warmed to the first three off nts 1 but the rest is (at worst) solid, making inroads into 2, 3 is resisting my efforts but 4 is mellow gold.

lana del boy (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:42 (eight years ago)

four of seven is seriously old skool, reminiscent of 808 state's flow coma which iirc they repped hard for in a v early interview.

lana del boy (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:53 (eight years ago)

"shits on every other track on this list. from a great height." iirc

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Thursday, 3 May 2018 19:27 (eight years ago)

I love all of it and hope everyone is still hot to talk about this release in a week after I've listened to them all a few more times. Still culling the eight hours down for a personal 'best of NTS' mix but the quality here is high, it's gonna be tough.

Tell you what though: a three day Autechre binge can certainly disrupt one's life. I've been indoors more this week than I have all year.

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 3 May 2018 19:32 (eight years ago)

i havent heard any AE since exai

done and dusted (Ross), Thursday, 3 May 2018 19:36 (eight years ago)

"shits on every other track on this list. from a great height." iirc

that was it :) was trying to track it down but it seems to have gone off the net.

lana del boy (ledge), Thursday, 3 May 2018 19:48 (eight years ago)

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Thursday, 3 May 2018 22:09 (eight years ago)

Can someone help me ease back into their new stuff?

done and dusted (Ross), Thursday, 3 May 2018 22:13 (eight years ago)

I know 8 hours is a lot, but I feel like NTS Sessions 1-4 works really well as a latter-day Autechre primer. It's kinda all here

That said, if you can wait a week or so I'll post my C90 or C60 (or whatever) playlist version. I'm sure others here will eventually have some thoughts about hits and misses, too. There's just so much to digest!

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 3 May 2018 22:36 (eight years ago)

if i could only pick one NTS session, i guess it would be 4. so if you haven't listened to those yet and you're not sure if you'll make it to hours 7-8, maybe try skipping to 4 and getting a taste!

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 May 2018 22:37 (eight years ago)

Ross - why not check out the ILM poll which is a great way to delve back in and rediscover the Old stuff in the process?

brand new universal harvester (dog latin), Thursday, 3 May 2018 22:53 (eight years ago)

Put all the Elseq mp3s on one CDr, and play it on the stereo.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Thursday, 3 May 2018 23:48 (eight years ago)

NTS 4 is the least representative of the rest of the sessions.. maybe just listen to them in order?

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Thursday, 3 May 2018 23:51 (eight years ago)

Alright Lowell I can do that

Thanks everyone just gotta figure out how to listen to nts
I don’t stream

done and dusted (Ross), Thursday, 3 May 2018 23:59 (eight years ago)

NTS 4 is the least representative of the rest of the sessions

I was gonna say.

I'd start with 1 or (my current favorite) 3. The former provides a good comprehensive overview of most of the various styles at play, the latter imo represents the weirdest, most experimental, and most lol (in a good way)

If you love Amber, though, or the final chord of "bladelores," start with 4.

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 4 May 2018 00:34 (eight years ago)

NTS 4 may be the least representative, but it's also the most zen-like, supreme redefinition and rebirth of Autechre.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 4 May 2018 00:39 (eight years ago)

uh ok i’m listening to 4 immediately

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 00:45 (eight years ago)

Brad <3

It's the long sought after string theory finally proved beyond any doubt. It connects the everything and the nothing and throws a new dimension you didn't think possible straight in your face. It's the 2001 monolith of music. Whiney can quote me on that in a new poll.

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 4 May 2018 00:57 (eight years ago)

NTS is streaming from their website so you don't need Spotify or w/e - sessions 1-4 are streaming here - https://www.nts.live/projects/autechre-nts-residency/
Maybe a track ripper like youtube-dl?
Unfortunately it starts you off at the beginning of session 1 - come back 6 hours later for the start of 4 if that's what you want to hear. In general, most of the tracks are slowly evolving, long pieces, so if you're not liking something you might have to wait 10-20 minutes for a change of weather.
I think it's quite a lot more accessible than elseq, and maybe Exai.

startled macropod (MatthewK), Friday, 4 May 2018 02:00 (eight years ago)

i've just been listening at the bleepstore: https://autechre.bleepstores.com/

Karl Malone, Friday, 4 May 2018 02:14 (eight years ago)

Wow I did not realise they were offering the full tracks to stream there.

startled macropod (MatthewK), Friday, 4 May 2018 02:25 (eight years ago)

re: Elseq - somebody listed around 9-10 of their favorite tracks, and the list pretty much reflected my top choices (like 95%) - i'll try to find it (Ross)

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Friday, 4 May 2018 03:07 (eight years ago)

I meant, in another Autechre thread. It was like 10 for 11, mirroring my top picks.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Friday, 4 May 2018 03:08 (eight years ago)

kind of excited to hear what brad thinks about 4

you bet, nancy (map), Friday, 4 May 2018 03:39 (eight years ago)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:03 (eight years ago)

“mirrage” (i think i’m on “mirrage”?) is deeply scary

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:06 (eight years ago)

i said it before on one of these threads but i feel like it's got a dark ambient tangerine dream thing going on

you bet, nancy (map), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:16 (eight years ago)

you bet, nancy (map), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:18 (eight years ago)

“column thirteen” is so cool

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:22 (eight years ago)

i’m not even sure what it is, maybe three different things at once tbh

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:23 (eight years ago)

they're mere overtures for the holocaust to come in about ten minutes

startled macropod (MatthewK), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:45 (eight years ago)

why yes “mirrage” did remind me of penderecki

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 04:50 (eight years ago)

+1

you bet, nancy (map), Friday, 4 May 2018 05:01 (eight years ago)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 05:02 (eight years ago)

That image makes me think of it

done and dusted (Ross), Friday, 4 May 2018 05:08 (eight years ago)

Cool guy this brad iirc

done and dusted (Ross), Friday, 4 May 2018 05:08 (eight years ago)

i am disappointed by my own expectations.
this is safe territory for Ae.
will not be happy until willie nelson covers/remix album

massaman gai, Friday, 4 May 2018 07:45 (eight years ago)

"column thirteen" really is magnificent, and if this hints at the direction of Ae going forward, count me in

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 4 May 2018 12:34 (eight years ago)

xpost Would it change your opinion if I told you this new set *was* Willie Nelson covers/remixes?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 4 May 2018 12:34 (eight years ago)

As much as I appreciate "all end," it is by default the weak link of Session 4. It's the only one on S4 I don't see myself playing a thousand times.

I can definitely see Session 4 taking on legendary status over the next few years, especially if it turns out to be an anomaly in the catalogue. If I wasn't so fussy about interrupting "all end" for side breaks, this is the one I'd order on vinyl if I could only get one. As it stands, I'm pretty happy with CDs + FLAC
