2002: The summer where we spent time singing songs from 2000.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 16:28 (eight years ago)

i wanted that anne-marie record to be way better than it was

maura, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 16:30 (eight years ago)

a terrible attempt at describing it, but I feel like it's a symptom of baconed nostalgia

niels, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 16:33 (eight years ago)

Thread delivers once again.

incel elgort (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 2 May 2018 17:54 (eight years ago)

had to turn it off immediately after first chorus

The actual YouTube comments on this thing are pretty funny, btw: lots of back and forth about whether the song was made for people who were kids in 2002 vs people who were *born in* 2002.

incel elgort (cryptosicko), Thursday, 3 May 2018 01:38 (eight years ago)

Well, that song is woeful. Are there any other songs mining the 00s for "nostalgia feels" yet or will this be the beginning of a new trend in pop?

triggercut, Thursday, 3 May 2018 08:55 (eight years ago)

Also, I feel like Alan Partridge saying this, but the "now we're under the covers" lyric caught me off guard. You think she's still singing about being 11 at that point. I know you only have to wait a couple of beats to find out they're now 18, but for a couple of moments there I've got an image of 2 naked 11 year olds in bed together. Poor songwriting!

Yes, that's the woman from Karmin.

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 May 2018 14:45 (eight years ago)

I just realised that Freaky Friday got to #1 in the UK

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 3 May 2018 14:54 (eight years ago)

Whoa, that Karmin thing....

triggercut, Thursday, 3 May 2018 15:11 (eight years ago)

based on the title I refuse to listen until Brad weighs in

Simon H., Thursday, 3 May 2018 15:11 (eight years ago)

this xtina song is meh but the bukakke happy video makes it way too extra (xtra?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSRSgMp5X1w

maura, Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:33 (eight years ago)

The shamelessness of the Karmin lady is really something to behold

JRN, Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:43 (eight years ago)

No one with any sense of shame has any business making pop music.

grawlix (unperson), Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:47 (eight years ago)

damn the Xtina song is a nothing on its own and seems even moreso accompanied by the video

Simon H., Thursday, 3 May 2018 18:51 (eight years ago)

sad to see/hear that xtina song

worst 2 chainz verse ever

ty sux 2

niels, Thursday, 3 May 2018 20:23 (eight years ago)

i don't know who thought this would be a good idea but somehow labrinth, sia and diplo are in a group together and calling themselves "LSD"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_GwO10HroY

monotony, Friday, 4 May 2018 01:44 (eight years ago)

Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam are doing an LSD tour this year but I don’t think they’re collaborating on an album or anything.

grawlix (unperson), Friday, 4 May 2018 02:25 (eight years ago)

That’s a whole different trip, man

i’m still stanning (morrisp), Friday, 4 May 2018 02:36 (eight years ago)

that's just bad though, not worst

niels, Friday, 4 May 2018 11:43 (eight years ago)

i think it's far worse than the xtina song, which - while certainly chaotic - is a vast improvement on the dross from her last album

monotony, Friday, 4 May 2018 14:29 (eight years ago)

"Red Hot Kinda Love" still sounds great

maura, Friday, 4 May 2018 14:36 (eight years ago)

i wouldn't say i *like* that xtina song but it's certainly more interesting than the lead singles from her last two albums

niels, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 12:01 (eight years ago)

I don't think there's anything terrible enough that the "this is the dumbing down of society!" brigade in YT comments can't make me side with.

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 13:07 (eight years ago)

I kind of see why the Ängie track is terrible but I can't completely hate it.

daavid, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 13:17 (eight years ago)

I actually really like the beat on that one, but everything else is bad. Apparently her album is called Suicidal Since 1995 :/

triggercut, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 13:19 (eight years ago)

that song is apparently from 2016...

https://hiskind.com/swedens-angie-on-mental-health-controversy-and-sexuality-in-music/

maura, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 14:02 (eight years ago)

Mental health is another topic usually shielded from pop music and, as a young person myself, seeing someone like yourself addressing mental health feels incredibly refreshed and necessary. Why do you think it is still considered a taboo topic in music?
Suicidal thoughts is my biggest inspiration I think. I think suicidal thoughts are more common than you think and I want people to know that. Things can look so damn sparkly on the internet but behind all that most people are terrified of everything.

maura, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 14:03 (eight years ago)

lol @ that song/video

i’m still stanning (morrisp), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:26 (eight years ago)

oh yeah that's def 2016, didn't even check since it showed in my recommended videos (what have I been doing on yt) and just assumed it was new

the song is perhaps not that horrible, just sounds like a very contrived Uffie pastiche, and it def sounds like they did not put in much effort (maybe they should have just asked someone for help with the lyrics/structure, I mean it sounds like something you come up with after getting high or on a night on the town, but then you take that "idea" and work with it) anyway sry for the 2016 derail

how's life, Sunday, 10 June 2018 01:43 (seven years ago)

Watching this awful video definitely enhances the experience of listening to this awful song.

Police, Academy (cryptosicko), Sunday, 10 June 2018 14:18 (seven years ago)

I think we have a winner ;_;

so tasteless, a fair bit worse than that horrible Albatros single even

niels, Monday, 11 June 2018 06:36 (seven years ago)

oh....my god. that video

monotony, Monday, 11 June 2018 12:41 (seven years ago)

Hahaha, OMG

It makes "Smoke Weed, Eat Pussy Everyday" look like a pop masterpiece in comparison!

i’m still stanning (morrisp), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:13 (seven years ago)

It's a novelty song, what did you expect? There are far worse offenders.

pomenitul, Monday, 11 June 2018 19:20 (seven years ago)

Well I hope they keep being posted here!

i’m still stanning (morrisp), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:23 (seven years ago)

This would've easily won the last Eurovision

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 11 June 2018 19:35 (seven years ago)

There's worst as in hilariously bad, like this, then there's worst as in indicative of everything that's wrong with the world, like the lil dicky song.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 11 June 2018 20:17 (seven years ago)

this song is bad but it also rules, in the way all halloween songs do

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 19:05 (seven years ago)

I can't believe I used to like this band. Then again, Suffer turns 30 this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hES9IBTPbcw

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 20 June 2018 17:12 (seven years ago)

lmao that it accidentally evokes that "we love our cops" song
