intro is pretty fucking crazy, turns into at least 3 other tunes thereafter
shades of Madonna 'Human Nature' in the vid but also weirdly reminded of Dream 'He Loves Me Not' sexed up

song is giving me a "Ring the Alarm" vibe

if u read the jukebox u will find these things tim! i only gave it 7/10 b/c i thought the chorus could do with another line but i feel this less now

i'm quite glad richgirl are pushing 'he ain wit me now', which is just INC-RED-I-BLE, rather than the kinda blah '24s'

Al Sh1pl3y: Maybe I’m just a sucker for pretty girls talking dirty, but I’ll never get tired of R&B songs that take not just the sound but also the explicit vocabulary from hip hop.[6]
this comment re nina sky is very prescient in the wake of 'how to be a lady vol 1'

I do read the Jukebox Lex, but I missed that one obv. Actually two weeks ago i gave the Jukebox a big big-up on my show!
Admittedly "On Some Bullshit" is no way as amazing as that RichGirl song which just transformed my life forever.

as global r&b ombudsman i strongly would have recommended 'on my bullshit' deported over to the uk funky scene (to be rerecorded by katie pearl or van cleef or someone, natch) where its tooty horns and 'funky drummer'ism could happily have prospered with its original sense of inevitable nina sky-brand failure and abject internetty obscurity transformed into just your standard acceptable knockabout anglo-nostalgic ineptitude. cee eff:
you're welcome.

also some breaks in funky would please me.
by the way, this week's electrik ruddy ilx climate of bimble-babble poptimism about throwback girlgroups, swearing, svengalis & shiny things only naffs me off more with regard to steff's 'slow jukin' being hopelessly fronted on. the good old days are back: LOCK N LOAD

btw i think the nina sky is growing on me, partly because of the radio edit's "bump what ya heard"
see the more i think about it the more i like the song; once you do a bit of close reading and work out it's them kinda tauntingly singsonging what the dude's been saying about (2-headed) her to his boys right back at him, then the whole weedy punchlessness of their delivery (not to mention, again, the inbuilt melancholy behind any new nina sky stab at success) becomes all the more apposite - it's like a hollow, regretful, navelgazing teen 'just fine'. except i just asked mjb what she thought of it all and she replied NO TIME FOR MOPING AROUND ARE YOU KIDDING so i think ima go with that instead.

wrong thread maybe but ne-yo's shit on this song is so great, one of my favorite r&b hooks of the year. the way he comes out of nowhere is a little jarring at first (but not in a bad way) and he's mixed SO LOUD, but it's awesomeee

yo that song is dope, never heard that before. it's nice when the Runners kinda surprise you with something besides their typical sound, i was just thinking today how i wish they had more tracks that sounded like, say, T.I.'s "We Do This."
― NEO-GEO v THE DREAMCAST (some dude), Friday, 29 May 2009 05:42 (seventeen years ago)
dude have u listened to that whole ross yet? i remember you saying somewhere you werent even going to bother with it even though you loved "mafia music" (prob my fav rap track of the year), but there's a handful of really good shit and only a couple skippers
― i am rubber, t u.r.koglu (k3vin k.), Friday, 29 May 2009 05:54 (seventeen years ago)
nah i haven't. i think it's so perverse that he's become like this 'album artist' who sells regardless of whether he has a big single, i don't even want to contribute to that by listening to a full album and saying ok, it's decent or whatever. tracks here and there are cool, though, i'm sure i'll hear most of the songs eventually.
― NEO-GEO v THE DREAMCAST (some dude), Friday, 29 May 2009 06:15 (seventeen years ago)
I like the album quite a bit. I get a bit of a Reasonable Doubt vibe (not on a lyrical level - although he's improving in that area certainly - just real classy) from some of it. First Rawse joint to please meh.
― africlown-american (The Reverend), Friday, 29 May 2009 06:19 (seventeen years ago)
people acting like ross finally got it right with this album are so trippin - the songs are long and uninteresting - trilla is so much better both as an album and an album with singles
ppl freaking about "maybach music pt 2" are so brainwashed - "luxury tax" off of trilla is so much better
― hazmat yayo (J0rdan S.), Friday, 29 May 2009 06:21 (seventeen years ago)
TRILLAAAAAA
yeah i know what you mean, he's definitely got the lush jazzy vibe of the first couple Jay albums down - xpost
i still can't tell if i like "mayback music 2" or if it's terrible and i just like the horn squeal in the chorus
― frankly mr. cankly (some dude), Friday, 29 May 2009 06:22 (seventeen years ago)

― frankly mr. cankly (some dude), Friday, 29 May 2009 06:26 (seventeen years ago)
i skip "maybach", that one with the reggae hook (i just hate all reggae tho), and another one at the end, but that's about it. it's a pretty suprisingly consistent album with a couple very good songs and one incredible song ("mafia music").
