Is it just me or did Dream basically cast his female doppelganger to be the lead Red? As for class signifiers...um...I dunno. Conceptually (not musically) most interesting bits are when the girls take a fictional male audience member to task for, e.g., wearing jeans that are too tight.

Ah so there was a reason I hadn't noticed "I thought I wouldn't really give a fuck" prior to listening to the album version.

"So Good" is just A+ songwriting, every single bit of it.

I don't mind the ooh/shit/damn bit, if only because the "shit" carries so much ambivalence - like is she saying it because she's pissed off or because she's being serviced right at that moment? And, if the latter, then it must be really good to make her start swearing like that.

Whereas the use of the word "Rockin' That Shit" seems more pointless to me - it's just a general stand-in word in that context.

it should be noted that P is for Power, the U is for Used to, cause my P better than that P that you used to

los da maestro is amazing, "friend lover" sounds so timeless to me

"devotion" sounds like aaliyah to me

OMG the sounds like a volcano erupting if a volcano also happened to be robotic godzilla nemesis during the last 20 seconds of "We Fuck You"

a few of the songs have last great 30 seconds. the "oooh ooohhh oohhhhhh" part on "so good", the "radio kilaaaa" harmonizing on "freaky freaky" - i'm sure there's more but right now i can't think of them

also that part on "we fuck you"

I really love "We Fuck You" now.

this is one of the main things that reminds me why dream is a genius - his ability to bring lil jon style club sloganeering to r&b but keep it totally weird and distinct to him - the most perfect example being "her titties like ooooOOOOHHH/ her booty like ooooooooooh"

Would it shock everyone to know that I've never been interested in Mr Nash's fetish (and "Sweat It Out" kinda exhausts it surely) - I just liked the way he sang that particular line so intently on "Purple Kisses".

Just queuing this up now - I predict I'm going to like it more than The Dream's own album. Between this and the Rich Girl record I'm quite psyched about the whole concept of girl group vanity projects from producers.

My first impression 1.5 songs in is that it’s okay

were you generally into the-dream/tricky stewart stuff from around this time ?

I took a quick glance through their production credits and basically I only ever cared about stuff they did with Beyoncé and Rihanna

the elektrik red album is great to me, but I like a ton of what they were making around this time generally...the mariah carey albums are really good too (I remember liking one more than the other but I forget which)
