Coil member Drew McDowell supervised the remaster, maybe that helped?

it's been a wee while, and StanM was right, it is (still) the best thing they ever did
― Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 13 May 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)
I think that's actually me saying it's the best thing they ever did (which feels like a bit of an overstatement now, although it is definitely up there).
― toby, Sunday, 13 May 2018 20:11 (eight years ago)
Ah, you're right, it was you! Sorry, misread that.
― Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 13 May 2018 20:17 (eight years ago)
I'm still gonna have to go with MTPITD but Ape may have higher high points, granted
― sleeve, Sunday, 13 May 2018 22:30 (eight years ago)
vol 1 or 2?
― Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 13 May 2018 22:53 (eight years ago)
Both :)
If I had to choose, the one with "Broccoli"
― sleeve, Sunday, 13 May 2018 23:01 (eight years ago)
MTPITD 1 FTW
For overall life impact / most revisited, forever Horse rotorvator.
― stirmonster, Monday, 14 May 2018 00:28 (eight years ago)
I might go with MTPID2 just for Batwings.
― toby, Monday, 14 May 2018 11:59 (eight years ago)
Moving Batwings from vol. 2 to vol. 1 makes vol. 1 a perfect album and vol. 2 pretty inessential imo
― Paul Ponzi, Friday, 25 May 2018 18:29 (eight years ago)
the two Dais Records albums are out btw
― StanM, Friday, 25 May 2018 20:35 (eight years ago)
OK listening to vol 1 + batwings today and I am inclined to agree.
I was prompted to listen to some Coil today by going back to a bunch of Vladimir Ivokovic mixes. This one in particular might be of interest to people on this thread:

The Xen track on here is incredible, but can't find any further info about it on Discogs, not even the Les Disques De La Mort label page. Know anything about it?
Anyway, great mix, thanks!
― Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 22 September 2018 21:35 (seven years ago)
Drew McDowall doesn't seem to have his own thread on here but I chatted with the good man recently about some of his new favorites.

― Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 September 2018 18:54 (seven years ago)
No, I did try poking around a bit, but couldn't find anything apart from it being in a few other mixes. Guessing it's still forthcoming? I agree it's awesome.
If you liked this mix then definitely check out others by Ivkovic, there are a load of great ones.

Being able to buy Coil CDs in HMV in a non descript Northern town (Warrington) is an odd thing but I picked up a copy of Worship the Glitch in there last Sunday. It feels right. I want them to seep into other people's lives and their waking lives the way they have mine. Feels right to be able to walk to my flat just minutes walk from the Mersey river, past the weird sports bar where the owner first played me early Tangerine Dream to listen to it. Feels like the sort of thing that'd make Geff and Sleazy happy.

Ah this is great. Thanks !

Just in time for winter! Perfect.
A cursory look reveals no actual audio, though, just information, reviews and photos - or am I missing it?
Either way, this is great. Thank you!

You know which release is among their most perfect material and slightly lacking exposure for new fans ? The Remote Viewer. The one with five tracks. It may have displaced The Ape, Horse and MtpitD1 as my definite favorite.
― Nabozo, Sunday, 30 December 2018 13:05 (seven years ago)
Also, random anecdote: one night once, I thought I saw a ghost by my open window as I was listening very attentively to A White Rainbow. Whatever optical illusion was at work made me talk to it, to see if I'd get any answer.
― Nabozo, Sunday, 30 December 2018 13:20 (seven years ago)
check out this one too, I always think it fits well with The Remote Viewer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moons_Milk_(In_Four_Phases)_Bonus_Disc

Black Antlers fits the bill here too, I think
― Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 30 December 2018 13:59 (seven years ago)
BTW, don't ignore the 'LCA Studio Coil Projects' section of the archive -- four collections of unreleased demos, with (according to them) no duplication with the bonus tracks from the reissues three years back.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 30 December 2018 17:06 (seven years ago)
thanks for pointing that out!

Anyway I do think it's interesting how Hyde and McDowall are essentially reclaiming the mid 90's legacy in different ways. (The latter strictly via specific reissues, granted.)
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 21 April 2019 02:25 (seven years ago)
Also, Hyde allegedly has *another* archival release coming, an expanded version of The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex tracks:
https://www.discogs.com/Coil-The-Gay-Mans-Guide-To-Safer-Sex-2/release/13504410
Per a note appended:
Hello everyone, just to reassure you, this is an official release, licensed from Danny Hyde, released with his blessing, with HQ files + a CD version for those who like it like that. We can't wait for this to come out, when we get a release date we'll let you know. Thanks ! Ed @ Musique Pour La Danse

I'm not sure whether a new Coil release being "licensed from Danny Hyde" necessarily makes it official at this point. Who knows where the rights lie.

Thought it was discussed upthread but no, at this point nothing is official that gets newly released or reissued. It’s all essentially a bootleg one way or another because there’s no central estate.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 21 April 2019 13:01 (seven years ago)
Exactly so, which is why I was surprised that you quoted that discogs note without comment.
― the word dog doesn't bark (anagram), Sunday, 21 April 2019 13:09 (seven years ago)
*shrug* I just read it as authorized by Danny Hyde. Maybe he’s trying to leave Cold Spring behind.

Man there really is a new flood on, here's another live 'authorized bootleg' via Soleilmoon:
https://www.soleilmoon.com/shop/coil-porto/
“Porto” is the only authorized bootleg live recording of a Coil live performance.Coil performed on 21 June 2003 at the Casa da Música Festival in Porto, Portugal. Present on stage that night were Peter Christopherson, Ossian Brown and Thighpaulsandra. Jhonn Balance was not part of the lineup, possibly due to his drug and alcohol addictions. Because of his absence the music on this recording is entirely instrumental. The show was also notable for being Ossian’s last appearance with Coil. This edition is manufactured and released in Portugal, and is distributed in North America by Soleilmoon. Royalties will be paid to the remaining artists involved in the concert.Tracklist1. Blue Rats (18:14)2. Triple Sun (12:56)3. Radio Westin (13:32)4. Drip Drop (10:04)5. The First Five Minutes After Death (11:24)
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 12 May 2019 17:38 (seven years ago)
interesting, as far as I can recall that show has always been MP3-sourced (even the CDRs), wonder if this is an improvement

Another 8 Threshold Archive CDs
https://www.soleilmoon.com/shop/threshold-archives-series-2/
I can see Restitution of decayed intelligence, blue, and I think moons milk? No track listings though.
The CDs are pretty cheap but postage to the UK is more expensive than the discs so I’m going to hold off ordering for now

― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 20:37 (seven years ago)
(guessing from L-R and top-bottom that these are Moon's Milk, Blue, Worship The Glitch, Protection, Foxtrot, Astral Disaster, Porto, and Restitution)
― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 20:40 (seven years ago)
I had protection on repeat earlier this week before I heard about this, no idea what the cover art looked like, so if there is a whole calf related stuff I’m stoked
But stoked for everything really
