Byrne set really makes you realize how used to the normal stationary band setup we are. it's almost disorienting watching them walk around like this.

i've been watching bits and pieces of the beyonce set, the mix on the stream was very bad at the start (fairly standard for the coachella stream though) but it got better as it went on

she brought out Jay, Solange, Destiny's Child and a marching band, sang and danced most of the time and the energy level never dipped for 2 solid hours, i ain't never seen nothing like that.

I had a thought similar to this last night. Like, however much she's getting paid, she's getting paid regardless. She didn't have to do all that! But she did, which I guess is why she's the biggest musical artist on Earth.

But last night ... fully insane is right ... Questlove had a good tweet last night the second it ended about how much was going on and how much work it must've been.

My assumption here is that she gets paid a fee, and then she (her team/corp/whatever) pays some production cost (and so does Coachella). So she could take her fee, bring a 6-piece band and perform her stuff and take home the rest of the money, or she could take her fee, bring in 200 people including a marching band, dozens of dancers, etc., etc., and make less money, right?

So she chooses to do the latter because ... I don't know, she's Beyonce and wants to stay Beyonce?

I’m still sour that the company I kept had us leave before the end of Prince’s set in 2008, which was a little less of a spectacle of numbers but definitely not less of a spectacle of talent

Beyonce was special, i couldn't go to bed until it ended and i was so tired.
