yeah anything garage rock-related that comes from the more revival era as opposed to the original era is not really heavily discussed or beloved around here. i think probably the most liked is stuff that's Oblivians related, or White Stripes and that sort of thing (though they definitely got away from being a strict garage band pretty early.)

been offline for a few days, so here is a catch up :
I still rate the first Gay Dad album pretty highly. I doubt they have many other fans on here.
umm hello.pretty sure i have been vocal re my love.i even have the second album.both are bloody brilliant glam/pop albums.
U2, obviously!
not obviously.
danny wilson
only have their debut on cassette so not heard it in over 20 years, but at the time, i thought it was just wonderful.their gig i saw with The Christians was rather special.
but one artist I really do like that no one here really cares about is Datarock
only ever got their debut due to label/band inaction, but damn, its a cracking album.fills the need for a second CLOR album basically.
...doves ...all albums by this band still make my heart swell.after years of not getting them, i saw them live and all became clear.
my all too obvious entry into this club : BRMC.no matter how generic/mono-groove they are, they still hit the spot for me and me alone.

there probably isn't a single soul that rates The Mirror on ILM. i'm pretty sure its my favorite Spooky Tooth album. Mike Patto's last stab at greatness. Way better than the Boxer albums he went on to make. Mick Jones sounding awesome before making the young girls cry with Foreigner. And Gary Wright on fire with all the goodness of his solo albums on display but with a big booming band behind him. I mean The Dream Weaver was only a year later.
call me crazy...
― scott seward, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:33 (eight years ago)
ok, i have dug around and realised the all too obvious answer from me : louis xivboth albums were absolutely hated by the world/ILM hivemind, yet i quietly listened to them both far too many times that was good for me, and still do.
― mark e, Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:45 (eight years ago)
don't think there's anything on ILM about Francisco Aubele
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 5 April 2018 20:50 (eight years ago)
Threads in general have less chance of becoming freakouts after you had to register to post. That random element is what launched a couple of the bigger musician/fan smackdown grease fires.
― earlnash, Thursday, 5 April 2018 21:11 (eight years ago)
I think I win this. I mean, my fandom has waned massively, but I’ll probably buy the new Embrace record if I see it for a fiver. I wrote the sleevenotes for their b-sided compilation ffs. I still rep for their second and sixth records. And a bunch of songs spread across the others.
― Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 5 April 2018 21:22 (eight years ago)

joe bonnamassa
no just kidding
i used to be a _huge_ frank zappa fan, like i had over 100 bootleg concert tapes of his. honestly i still like a lot of his music but his persona has not aged particularly well. you know, he died.

I thought of TMV but quite a few people like them

One of my most favourite artists ever is Joseph Arthur. I think he's a true genius and adore everything he's done, which is quite a lot.I don't think he's disliked or anything, he's just hardly ever mentioned.
I'm also very fond of some britpop bands from the '90s that may not be the biggest hits around here:Shed Seven (who were my favourite band when I was in high school, I still love 'em)CastKula Shaker
As for a band who I think get mostly very negative feedback on here, I dare to name Mumford & Sons. While I wouldn't say that I'm a big fan, I certainly enjoy their records a lot.
― Valentijn, Friday, 6 April 2018 12:46 (eight years ago)
i'm FPing you, but i want to be honest about it
― bad left terf nut (Noodle Vague), Friday, 6 April 2018 12:48 (eight years ago)
90% of the stuff in the UK charts seems to have no fans at all on here, not even in the pop thread. I don't even like most of it.
New Entries into the UK top 10 in 2018
I'm sure at any time pre-2005 or so this would not have been the case.

― frogbs, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:22 (eight years ago)
I love Fishmans sooo much
― ufo, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)
yea they're wildly popular on RYM so I was surprised to find they basically have gone unmentioned here
― frogbs, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:25 (eight years ago)
Noodle Vague, can I ask why?
Joseph Arthur's a good response to this thread's title, if 'doesn't rate' is taken in the sense that someone simply isn't mentioned much. The guy has only a couple of thread titles to his name.
I think it's relatively hard to find people really loving the other artists I mentioned, or am I wrong? If your response is to any of those, aren't you proving my point?
― Valentijn, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:26 (eight years ago)
skrewdriver
― scotti pruitti (wins), Friday, 6 April 2018 13:32 (eight years ago)
I stumbled across Fishmans a while back in a Rolling Stone Japan albums list I think? and immediately fell in love. then about a year later they had a sudden burst of popularity on RYM which was very nice to see if unexpected. RYM seems to like Long Season and 98.12.28 the most but I think Uchuu Nippon Setagaya is their real masterpiece, as well as Yurameki in the Air. I had thought about making a thread here a few times but figured it probably wouldn't get much attention
― ufo, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)
fishmans cache on rym is due to /mu/ iirc
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 6 April 2018 13:53 (eight years ago)

― ufo, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)
lol i feel the same way
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 6 April 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)
Yeah I wondered what exactly happened there. Long Season has over 5000 ratings but like 98% of those have come in the last five years. Even for RYM that's pretty unusual.
All the stuff you mentioned is great...though I also have a soft spot for King Master George. So many great tunes on that one. Dunno about the rest of the early stuff though...its kind of sleepy
― frogbs, Friday, 6 April 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)
the early stuff is ok but Orange is where they really hit their stride imo, from it onwards everything they did was great. the reworked live versions of early tracks on 98.12.28 are much better than the studio versions
― ufo, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:00 (eight years ago)
"skrewdriver"
you joke, but there are definitely fans of all skrewed up on here! i love that album. if they had disappeared forever in a cloud of smoke after the back with a bang 12-inch we would all be skrewdriver fans.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:03 (eight years ago)
back with a bang 12-inch still one of my favorite SOUNDING 12-inch singles of all time. so huge. and ironic given what that idiot would end up sounding like. i finally sold my copy of the first album and that single and my united skins comp to a nice guy i know who DJs northern soul and ska. just didn't feel like having them anymore. i got them from another friend of mine who was a boston skin and felt the need to purge his youthful obsessions.
i do love oi! probably not a ton of oi! threads on ilm.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:06 (eight years ago)
if i were made of money, i would totally start a punk 12-inch label. just massively loud heavy vinyl 45 rpm 12-inches of punk classics. for all the DJs out there.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)
mainlly for Mumford and Kula Shaker tbh valentijn. soz, it's not personal
