I try (try) not to be too judgemental since my tastes, appearance and behaviour aren't always exactly above reproach but jesus fucking christ the absolute state of all these fucks.

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Friday, 23 February 2018 19:02 (eight years ago)

They take inspiration from the greats. Namely the Arctic Monkeys, The Jam, The Strokes, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and others of a similar vein

If you asked me to name off the "greats" it might take me a couple of days before I got to any of these bands...also are there really bands in a similar vein as the Jam AND RHCP? If there are I do not want to hear them

aren't you in a band ultros?

imago, Friday, 23 February 2018 19:12 (eight years ago)

Uh I've been in a few tiny local bands but nothing of even miniscule note. And certainly nothing like this!

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Friday, 23 February 2018 19:20 (eight years ago)

time for you to don the trilby and make a blow for all the progge lads out there

imago, Friday, 23 February 2018 19:22 (eight years ago)

How's your swagger?

Video reach stereo bog (Tom D.), Friday, 23 February 2018 19:23 (eight years ago)

Absolutely terrible. Does anyone have the number of a good swagcoach?

btw I have never raised a fist in anger but the closest I've ever come close to glassing someone is when I played one of those gigs where you just get three random unfitting bands thrown together on a wednesday night in Leicester or whatever. Making small talk beforehand with the guitarist from one of the other bands, who could have passed for most of these fuckers in the thread what kind of music he played, and he just leaned back on the bar and drawled "rock n roooooll, man." ffffff

coolstorybro etc

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Friday, 23 February 2018 19:41 (eight years ago)

actually I'm quite interested to hear about your brushes with landfill

hopefully involving you playing some insane shit at the previously comfort-zoned audience

imago, Friday, 23 February 2018 19:45 (eight years ago)

The most startled looks I ever got was with the proggy post-metal band I was in that tuned down to G, I don't think people were expecting something that heavy lol. Otherwise sorry to disappoint, most of my musical forays have been quite vanilla, occasionally I join a band because I feel like I ought to be doing something but I rarely find anyone with interesting taste. Increasingly resigned to the idea that if I want to get something out I need to do it myself and throw it up on bandcamp to be ignored.

Or I could become like a sleeper agent with one of these landfill bands, gradually twist them around to my way of thinking so we end up playing a mix of Gentle Giant and Liturgy with the swagger of Forgotten Spell.

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Friday, 23 February 2018 20:21 (eight years ago)

Also when I was quite young I was kicked out of a metal band for playing too many notes, that's gotta get get me some progge points

obnoxious pun (ultros ultros-ghali), Friday, 23 February 2018 20:22 (eight years ago)

Lol

a mix of Gentle Giant and Liturgy with the swagger of Forgotten Spell

I'll drum :D

"I’ve always had a band or been a singer. It’s like a disease. It never leaves me."

the guy from the famous apostrophe free Mikes Carpets tv advert nails this whole phenomena.

“I started my career on the markets and in the early days, when I was out gigging, that supported my income. Nowadays I play abroad a lot, such as in Majorca from time to time.

“I do early rock ‘n’ roll – and a lot of Rod Stewart for obvious reasons!”

Anyone interested in him expanding on these "obvious reasons" should listen to him speak about his extraordinary life as a guest of Batley History group.

calzino, Saturday, 24 February 2018 10:42 (eight years ago)

He has the swagger of Charlie Mullins. Possibly a thread there on business owners from around the UK still trying to look like Rod Stewart ca. 1975.

It's the intellectual swagger of this fellow's brain that really takes the breath away, rather than his dazzling attire.

Is there a better place to put this? I could honestly stare at it for hours.

Nick, do you not know who he is? If not please tell us what kind of music you imagine these guys play, I cannot imagine what I would make of it.

Don't think they look much like local councillors, someone on twitter said "gritty new rural detective series"

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 14 April 2018 22:33 (eight years ago)

There is a thread for bands in their later years doing serious photoshoots but I can't remember what it's called.

a mix between the Irish showband scene and Gaelic folk music with the stagger of Ronnie Drew. Sorry for thread abuse, but those suits the insipid venture scouts + Alarm tribute band are wearing make me hanker for the old pisshead tramp style suits that were much more de rigeur in the 20th century.

Sounds like one of the token rock songs in Eurovision.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Wednesday, 16 May 2018 09:29 (eight years ago)

That song/those people are awfully corny for sure but that is probably the best thing on this thread. It would be one of the better Eurovision rock songs in fact.
