Southampton five-piece The Rising have gained a huge fan base across the city with their Brit pop-cum-60s rock ’n’ roll swagger. Renowned for their catchy indie guitar sound, they were soon snapped up by Detour Records after sending material to Alan McGree, the founder of Creation Records. The band release their new double A-side single, Free My Soul Tonight and If You Get With Me, at a launch gig at The Joiners later this month.

The track is pure rock ‘n’ roll and is the follow up to their debut single released back in November, ‘Dancing ‘Til The End Of Time’. It’s a confident track from a band still relatively new, using their classic blues and rock influences and updating into modern day indie complete with sonic guitar riffs and singer Luke Shield’s comfortable vocal.

Paves came together last year and whilst still unsigned, the band have gathered a solid following on social media already helped by first single ‘Dancing ‘Til The End Of Time’, with its wah-wah pedalling guitar and Jim Morrison-esque vocal. The band look to be bringing back that 60s/70s retro sound, much like Kula Shaker did in the 90s, but making it fresh for the current climate.

febrezing the corpse of pompous psychedelia one more time

on the plus side, the current cultural climate probably is gonna be a bit more accommodating if they decide to go down the crispian mills route of attempting to reclaim the swastika

much like tame impala did in the 10s?

these guys no doubt view tame impala as beyond the pale due to the addition of verboten innovations such as computers and effects pedals that make sounds beyond 'guitars, but slightly more distorted'

TiTORS iNSiGNiA do not only prove a great sense of music by offering a varied and complex compilation of songs on ‘Fair City Riots’, they do also showcase an unaltered and enthralling sound which is distinctive of dynamic drum (Ste Swift), thrilling and skillfully staged guitar (lead guitar: Rob James, rhythm guitar: Stu Oggy) and emphatic bass (Peter Murphy) cooperation, and also marked by powerful vocals (Stu Oggy), at times edgy, at times rather soft in sonority yet constantly bearing a raw and sharp timbre. The band knows that the music genre they shine most, is pure and intense Rock’N’Roll, a tribute and revival to classic rock anthems, and that’s why their music is convincing to such an extent. It shows that the band members are experienced and firm musicians and that their overall sound is an established and expressive one, a sound TiTORS iNSiGNiA can identify with, moreover a sound TiTORS iNSiGNiA feels comofortable with. It’s this confidence and charisma that wins the listener over, that has convinced me the very first time I listened to the band’s music.

What would you say is your key influences?

Rob: Everything you can think of, I was brought up listening to the Beatles, Oasis and Ocean Color Scene. For me I think my key influence is Paul Weller and the music of the Jam. I also am very interested in the classic soul roots of Mod music-particularly Eddie Floyd.

The Universal - Britrocks Best Dressed Band

"As sharp musically as they are in attire, Liverpool quartet The Universal apply timeless values of upbeat melodic British rock songwriting to a sharp-dressed 2012 model."

It's certainly not just the dress sense that's pin sharp with these guys from Merseyside. The Universal's music is bursting with enough quality to make a Saville Row suit. Like a guitar driven mix of Paul Weller, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, and The Reel People, you cannot help but be impressed by the four pieces musical prowess. With T3rry Sh@ughn3ssy pulling, as well as strumming, the strings, his songwriting equals that of Mssrs Weller and Gallagher, (big boots to fill!!), and thats as well as singing and playing guitar. Is This England is almost a tribute to what the British music and other industries used to be, before the likes of X-Factor (excuse my language) became such an unfortunate influence on todays record sales. Satellites is a much slower but equally strong track. I fact, I'd stick my neck out and say that there is not a 'weak' track that I've heard.

It's difficult to say anything else other than to stronlgy advise you check these guys out as soon as you can, like NOW!!

"The Universal's music is bursting with enough quality to make a Saville Row suit"

What does this mean? Are they trying to compare the music to fabric? Do people describe really good fabric as "bursting with quality"?
