Yeah but the rest of PC music doesn't sound like that at all

i don't hear the big difference

flopson, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 00:14 (eight years ago)

Seriously? Have you listened to the soundcloud up there? Maybe allied ideas, but completely different production methods and sound pallette involved.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 20 February 2018 00:24 (eight years ago)

So what do you guys think about the new KKB EP?

wow

imago, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 10:27 (eight years ago)

this is pretty great, a little disappointed there isn't a full album of this

ufo, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 10:49 (eight years ago)

yeh great stuff, that last track is a delicate lil gem

nxd, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 10:52 (eight years ago)

it's definitely my favourite thing they've done. sarah's extremely twee vocals work a lot better in the context of this lo-fi rock, they were often a bit much before

ufo, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 11:14 (eight years ago)

yeah they feel like they've arrived

imago, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 11:35 (eight years ago)

very excited to see which kinds of ilm posters think this is a step back

imago, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 11:35 (eight years ago)

It's not a step back only because it works.

no guitars on this one but it's keeping the warm lo-fi vibes from TOTEP, i like it

when you open wide, you'll find
all the shots you've got
bring back the time it's easy to believe
yesterday was so sweet

"kkb + james hankins

from the album Time 'n' Place coming v soon

extra vocals by z (crying)"

Jeff W, Monday, 17 September 2018 12:31 (seven years ago)

"Make Believe" is fantastic

I'm annoyed that their show here sold out in seemingly hours - and then sold out just as quickly again when they got a venue upgrade

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Monday, 17 September 2018 12:44 (seven years ago)

make believe is really lovely and elaiza from crying appearing on it is such a perfect fit

Yeah their Atlanta show is in a tiny venue and sold out immediately, and I don't even think there are ridiculously overpriced secondhand or whatever tickets available.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Monday, 1 October 2018 00:23 (seven years ago)

it should be out in the US at midnight

it's basically a full length TOTEP in sound which is exactly what i wanted

ufo, Monday, 1 October 2018 00:34 (seven years ago)

this is a v nice album, although i maybe slightly preferred TOTEP, pound-for-pound. that's nitpicking though. this really is lovely

visiting hours -> if i'd known is SO good

imago, Monday, 1 October 2018 09:31 (seven years ago)

Jeff W, Monday, 1 October 2018 18:46 (seven years ago)

The whole of the second half is stupidly good.

Jeff W, Monday, 1 October 2018 18:57 (seven years ago)

great stuff, visiting hours personal fav on first listen

bit saint etienne-y to me

nxd, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 09:03 (seven years ago)

fantastic album. almost wish they hadn't split the material into two releases but that's a nitpick.

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 2 October 2018 11:20 (seven years ago)

I listened to Intro Bonito a while back and thought it was terrible. But lots of people seem to like this band who also like things I like. Is that unrepresentative or do I just have bad taste in music?

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 11:24 (seven years ago)

Their style has changed a lot since then. I like both old and new KKB, but basically the new LP seems to have gotten the PC music sceptics on-board as it has moved away from that sound. So if that sounds like you then maybe give it a go?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 2 October 2018 11:28 (seven years ago)

New one is much better and I'm a PC Music fan

imago, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 11:37 (seven years ago)

this album barely resembles Intro Bonito (which i agree is pretty bad). Bonito Generation was definitely a step up though still a bit underwritten but it's this year that they've really come into their own

also Flamingo has 21 million youtube views, when did that happen wtf

ufo, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 12:16 (seven years ago)

Would suggest that anyone more into their earlier stuff check out the Kane West LP as it features 2/3 members and is probably better than Intro Bonito

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 2 October 2018 12:21 (seven years ago)

It's not just musically they've developed. Sarah has turned into an amazing lyricist seemingly overnight.

btw there will be physical editions of the album, but not shipping until mid December according to this:
https://www.polyvinylrecords.com/product/time_n_place

But do scroll down and read the full press blurb - very insightful for once.

daavid, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 17:34 (seven years ago)

That didn't work :(

It's a guy (ID: acai) playing guitar hero version. He seems to be pretty popular.

daavid, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 17:37 (seven years ago)

xxp the press blurb is very interesting, thanks for the link. completely agree that sarah's lyrics are really fantastic on this album

i'm definitely going to try to find a tracklist that coherently combines TOTEP with Time 'n' Place, it shouldn't be too hard to fit

ufo, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:28 (seven years ago)

I mean you can be pretty free with it, almost every track is so self-contained and ends with a sudden whoosh of noise

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:43 (seven years ago)

Saw them last night in Brighton. A very charming gig with most of the audience singing along. Would like to see them again in a year if they keep gigging to see a tighter performance.

Saw these guys in Atlanta last night and it was the most fun I've had at a show in years. The crowd was super hyped and you could tell the band were really feeding off their energy. I thought they did a great job of re-working the old songs in the live band format. Go see them if you have the chance.

I had slept on Time 'n Place until this week but wow, what a fantastic record. It's very melancholy--I'm hearing a valiant struggle to stay positive in the face of existential boredom and/or tragedy. There are also so many gorgeous melodies and textures throughout, like in the bridge to Time Today, which might be my favorite bit of music from last year.

Does anyone else get Trish Keenan vibes from Sarah's vocals? To me, they both share a kind of wistful British stoicism, though both bands obviously come from different places aesthetically.

Yeah this new one's great

maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 21 April 2021 15:09 (five years ago)

This does sound like video game music, in a way I can't appreciate or enjoy. And why are their tunes so aimless now, when they used to be all about catchy melodies (to the point that they had a song about how great they are)?

This band is clearly going places artistically, but they left me behind a while back. Oh well

best time to call is friday and saturday afternoons! (morrisp), Wednesday, 21 April 2021 16:04 (five years ago)

"well rested" is massive!

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Friday, 23 April 2021 16:21 (five years ago)

This might be my favorite thing from them. 21/04/20 is also great and it’s coincidentally the same birthday as my significant other.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 23 April 2021 17:35 (five years ago)

Well Rested is the best PSB song since Love Is A Bourgeois Construct

imago, Friday, 23 April 2021 17:42 (five years ago)

What does PSB stand for?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 23 April 2021 17:47 (five years ago)

think of London's previous, um, house band, WHOSE MANTLE IS BEING PASSED

imago, Friday, 23 April 2021 17:48 (five years ago)

thinking of sarah's deadpan vocal style being in the same lineage as psb makes me appreciate it a lot more overall

ufo, Friday, 23 April 2021 17:53 (five years ago)

Kero Kero Bonimperial phase

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 23 April 2021 17:54 (five years ago)

Oooh Pet Shop Boys... yeah I kinda hear the comparison

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 23 April 2021 17:56 (five years ago)

Especially the vocal style and the fact it's called 'Well Rested'! But KKB's laid-back pop/house investigations have always had a certain PSB-y feel to them imo, albeit a few hairs more indie

imago, Friday, 23 April 2021 18:04 (five years ago)

yeah i definitely hear that

i'm really excited to hear where they go next bc it kinda feels like they're just getting started really

also what the hell "flamingo" has 76 million youtube views when did that happen

ufo, Friday, 23 April 2021 18:21 (five years ago)

Re: the tradition of deadpan British vocals, Sarah constantly reminds me of Trish Keenan

J. Sam, Friday, 23 April 2021 20:23 (five years ago)

I love everything about this band. Their recent carefully constructed "mythical" vibe reminds me of the KLF in the best possible way.

daavid, Friday, 23 April 2021 21:05 (five years ago)

I’ve decided this is the best song of the year 2021.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 27 April 2021 05:01 (five years ago)

I just watched this recent “live” show of theirs, and discovered they did a great KKB-do-2-step remix of Metronomy last year. Unfortunately it’s not another 7 minute journey clocking in at 3 mins only.

Civilisation vinyl (both EPs on one mini LP) finally landed, so getting fully immersed in these songs now. Bits of the record remind me a bit of Going For The One or Tormato-era Yes, there’s that same density of sound and willingness to embrace the cosmic. The rate KKB are evolving and improving is quite startling.

The sleeve art is something else too. Black symbols on a white background with text in a strange font that vaguely resembles hieroglyphics - which carries across to the lyrics on the inner sleeve too (thus rendering them largely incomprehensible even after you’ve worked out which letter of the alphabet each symbol stands for).

Jeff W, Monday, 4 October 2021 22:58 (four years ago)

Not sure what the competition is, but "21/04/20" has to be the greatest song written about COVID quarantine

J. Sam, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 00:33 (four years ago)

I'm surprised and relieved they aren't more common. Though I enjoyed "The Virus Diaries" i heard about on the Orbital thread here.
