yeah i'm finding this one to be unmemorable and dull
― dyl, Saturday, 10 February 2018 23:39 (eight years ago)
also not into the fact that all the pretty clunky lyrics are so max tundra-ish. fair enough, he's probably writing
all the original Daphne & Celeste songs (bar covers) were written by the people that conceived the Daphne & Celeste project. D&C 2.0 is a Max Tundra project. so.
― Haribo Hancock (sic), Sunday, 11 February 2018 01:04 (eight years ago)
You and I Alone was good, and they said in an interview that they were fans of a lot of the things Tundra referenced in the lyrics too, but BB is pretty dull yeah
― ufo, Sunday, 11 February 2018 01:12 (eight years ago)
New song!

I think BB is not bad - the intro is clunky and awful, but the ooyeah-ooyeah-oohno harmony bit on the chorus is pretty wonderful, and I can't hate a song that uses the word 'heteronormative' in the lyrics. (actually it seems much better when the lyrics are on screen for some reason)
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 15 March 2018 17:59 (eight years ago)
this is very pretty
BB was great, yall daft

good song, genius video
― Jeff W, Thursday, 15 March 2018 20:09 (eight years ago)
there are tour dates too:
Daphne & Celeste are coming to England to play a handful of tour dates and Max Tundra is in the band: 27 March: Boston Music Room, London30 March: Hope & Ruin, Brighton31 March: G-A-Y, Heaven, London2 April: Firebug, Leicester3 April: Rough Trade, Bristol (instore & signing)
love Tundra but this is a little trebly and hypersyllabic for me

i like this quite a bit better but it never really breaks out into what i first imagined the collaboration to be like... just kinestic excited-by-itself "which song" type stuff.
i'm a sucker for those kind of maj3rd "bass" lines" though. just wish it broke into some project bassline silliness somehow?

"alarms" on loop. love it
― massaman gai, Friday, 16 March 2018 09:02 (eight years ago)
whoa this is nice. definitely my favorite of the three so far. I'm only a minute in though
kinda clear that Tundra is trying to get these ladies on the radio again and not just appeal to his own weird fanbase. I think it'll be very good even if it isn't gonna scratch the same itch left by having no new Max Tundra albums in 10 years (what does this guy do all day??)

The gig was great, if you get a chance to see them then see them, they are fucking delighted to be on stage, and they light up the stage, and they are as good at the new stuff as the old (and BB is a complete banger live) and bizarrely as good at the old stuff as the new.

I like what I've heard a lot but if so he's doing a really shitty job in both sound and marketing
― aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Tuesday, 27 March 2018 23:12 (eight years ago)
yea it'll be interesting to see if this thing gets any hype at all. D&C are a bit *too* obscure at this point. I guess that's the whole point though.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 28 March 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)
I was at that gig too Andrew! Scruffy bloke stood to the side, you probably remember me

Are you guys all gay?
That's the only justifiable excuse I can think of for middle aged men going to Daphne & Celeste shows in 2018.

good post

Got my record just now. It has a cover of kandy korn by Captain Beefheart! It has an alternate sleeve, and i think I prefer the original...

Looking back, though, I think the most exciting thing playing shows around that time was there was a real run-in between Stereophonics, Travis, and Coldplay. No one could tell which one of those very similar bands was gonna come out on top. I’m still surprised Coldplay won that one, I thought it was gonna be Travis.

That does the last three tracks a disservice! And I think BB is awesome. Which leaves only Sunny Day as less than perfect, but it's still lovely
― imago, Monday, 2 April 2018 13:43 (eight years ago)
cant stop listening to Song To A Succulent.
― cajunsunday, Monday, 2 April 2018 18:30 (eight years ago)
a.l.t.o. to taking notes is a great run... 16 stars and paint can especially. still not into bb; weird that the two more leaden tracks were the lead-off singles (though i like you & i alone, moreso in album sequence)
main complaint is how their voices are euthanized into anonymity. bothers me a little less if i just think of it as a max tundra record with other voices on it. same with with the lyrics which i've already gone on about.
it's pretty great though :)
― linee, Tuesday, 3 April 2018 05:49 (eight years ago)
little nod to apt 3a at the end of 16 stars?

BB haters appear to be ignoring the amazing final minute of the song at the very least. The way the main synth line changes up!
― imago, Tuesday, 3 April 2018 13:00 (eight years ago)
Holy wow, this album is great. And I'm only at BB and reading this thread, and getting really, really excited!
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 10:20 (eight years ago)
16 Stars! I needed those synths
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 10:29 (eight years ago)
This doesn't entirely narrow it down, but I understand there was a lot less of that than the average Max Tundra gig. And several ex-ILXors (with mark s)!
I can hear some of the criticisms of the record (though not of BB, whose only fault is that it stops at the point where it was about to really kick off), but it turns out this is the band that pushes me into the tedious "the record is only a crude effort at the songs, the real act is live" camp.

if I didn't know this was made by Max Tundra I wonder how long it would've taken me to figure out. I'd say about 15 seconds.
linee's post about the two lead singles seems pretty otm to me. the album's way better than I would've guessed given those two tracks. nothing against them, they work quite well in the context of the album, but the wonkybonkers stuff like "ALTO" and "Alarms" is what I signed up for
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 13:52 (eight years ago)
thank god for this album
