one time I did that crossing and it was so choppy that I was stood in this office somewhere in Leiden I think the next day and the whole floor felt like it was still going up and down

As a student I once crossed to Newcastle. We got into a brawl with some Newcastle lads who'd drank up before we took off. Fuckers broke my watch, and a friend of mine was too busy puking then entire trip to help us out. It's more or less exactly what I imagine this "cruise" to be.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 12:49 (eight years ago)

yeah but with that Inspiral Carpet organ riff playing on a constant loop

omg I've just realised The Farm (acoustic), they'll be trawling for all the overboard jumpers for a month

the ferry doesn't even go to Amsterdam

No mercy xxxp

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 12:56 (eight years ago)

Aahhaha it's going to Rotterdam but that just doesn't sound as cool

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 12:57 (eight years ago)

they save that for the Beautiful Sou'wester cruise

if the novels of joseph conrad have taught me anything, bez is the one you can trust to come through in a typhoon

mark s, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 13:08 (eight years ago)

I could be wrong but I think a ticket on this thing is cheaper than a ferry ticket for the weekend, maybe I'll take some earplugs and go for a day out in Rotterdam

drugs don't kill people, poppers do (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 13:13 (eight years ago)

You're not wrong, by the looks of it, 159,- is cheap.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 13:18 (eight years ago)

Looking at that video, does it just.. stop at 4 in the afternoon? Didn't seem to be a single frame of night-time activity.

piscesx, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

after 4pm is reserved for the keelhauling of the minor indie celebrities

Thomas NAGL (Neil S), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 14:45 (eight years ago)

I was running late for work after feeling compelled to read the entire exchange about this mini-cruise

thanks lads, good humorous start to my day

Is one able to sneak drugs onto these 'music cruises' or is security tight enough that you're stuck buying 11 dollar coors light

global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)

not even sure you can smoke inside on the ferry nowadays and it would be physically impossible to do it on deck in March

With Bez on board I think they'll turn a blind eye

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 17:36 (eight years ago)

I have a friend who just got back from this cruise: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Boat#The_Rock_Boat_XVIII

he's been in previous years. it sounds like a hell to me. no idea about the drug sneaking but I know they regularly try to sneak on liquor because I get a story about how many bottles the luggage checkers found versus how many they missed

mh, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 19:09 (eight years ago)

that is the original rock cruise, the one that spawned all the others. former coworkers of mine have been attending since it began

maura, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 20:34 (eight years ago)

I mean, on the rare occasion he's come back talking about a band I haven't heard of that was in the lineup that later breaks out

but more often there's an anecdote about some one-hit artist from the 90s who performed and then got drunk with everyone

mh, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 20:37 (eight years ago)

a music fest w/that lineup and calling it "Victorious"....if they can make like Dunkirk and evacuate the concertgoers from that beach maybe.

omar little, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 20:38 (eight years ago)

I played at Shiiine a few months ago. Actually had an OK time, despite none of the three or so bands I actually liked playing that day.

As we were unloading I heard a band covering MGMT's 'Kids' in the distance, which I assumed was some covers band playing in one of the pub venues, but when they followed it up with Starsailor's 'Four To The Floor' I realised it was the sound of Starsailor themselves at work, adding something a little 'contemporary' to their set

I also got to watch Embrace alternate their hits with new material which contains millennial whoops and latter-day Take That-esque choruses in a no way desperate attempt to get on Radio 2. During this I noticed Lammo standing nearby.

Like I said, it was fun

It's in Iceland though, I doubt the population can support multiple large festivals aimed at multiple demographics, even if they are all hugely into music.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 February 2018 17:30 (eight years ago)

Glastonbury alone is like half the size of the entire population of Iceland.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 February 2018 17:31 (eight years ago)

I would totally attend a concert in Reykjavik to see Slayer, Stormzy and Gucci Mane in quick succession. Speaks to me as a family-type popular concert, and I'm not surprised there'd be Icelanders who're able to dig all three. I have strong doubts about the names below though.

I can't even tell you how happy I am that we live in a world where not only are Radioactive Sandwich, Kluster Phunk and Funkadelic Astronaut all real bands, but are all going to be in the same place at the same time.

cwkiii, Wednesday, 23 May 2018 00:55 (eight years ago)

Drawing on inspirations from classic funk bands and present day electronica, Funkadelic Astronaut blends the best of both worlds to provide a unique sound that they call “Funktronica”.
