it's closer to their earlier output than say Obsideo (which I still liked). heavy af.

The first few Pestilence albums (everything up through Spheres) were reissued last year as 2-disc sets. Been thinking about picking those up.

Swedish self proclaimed "primitive and progressive" death metallers Usurpress return with a new, bold album. This time, core members Stefan Pettersson (vocals, lyrics), Påhl Sundström (guitars, music) and Daniel Ekeroth (bass, music) are joined by jazz-fusion drummer Stefan Hildman and ambient/trance keyboardist Erik Sundström, and the outcome astounded even the band itself. "Interregnum" can be described as "an unholy mix between Camel and Bolt Thrower, that somehow works flawlessly", so be prepared for something quite out of the ordinary. And out of this world.

I like the first track posted but it reminds me of Enslaved so far.

It's really good. Not nearly as dull as Enslaved. I interviewed Ekeroth for an upcoming Bandcamp feature.

The new Agrimonia is sounding really good!

Just turned in a Bandcamp article on Usurpress (interviewed Daniel Ekeroth). The album's really good. The keyboards and jazzy drumming add a lot, and there's this one weird Goth song that's a lot of fun.

Lee Dorrian has a D-beat/hardcore band! Who knew? They're called Septic Tank, and their full-length debut (they put out a Japan-only 7" in 2013) is called Rotting Civilisation. If there wasn't a song on it called "Social Media Whore," it could have been recorded in 1986. Coming out in April on Rise Above. RIYL Off! or other similar old-man-can't-hang-it-up retro punk acts.

Maybe I'm biased because they're fellow Montrealers but the new Basalte, Vertige is blowing my mind right now. It's free on Bandcamp, to boot.

Prong and Helmet are doing a co-headlining US tour.

I went to a Helmet show once, but only because Caspar Brötzmann Massaker was the opening act. Once he was finished devastating the place (four songs in 45 minutes), we left. I've never seen Prong, either, though I'm a big fan - I like their last few albums just as much as the stuff from their late '80s/early '90s heyday. So even though the NYC date is midweek, I might just have to go to this.

I thought their album would have done better on the 2017 poll that recently was tabluated. It was definitely very high on my ballot. The EP seems just as fun on first listen, if a bit darker.

I loved Rebel Wizard album and I think JCLC was a big fan too.

I'm not gonna go, but I am amused to learn that Pig Destroyer are playing a sports bar-lookin' dump called Crossroads in Garwood, NJ, which is two towns over from me, next Friday night.
