The one two three bit is magnificent but the actual 'I got new rules' hook is a real damp squib after that.

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:30 (eight years ago)

"DNA" is his best pure single imo

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

Voted for Akanamali after it appeared on the campaigning thread, so thanks to whoever posted it. Gorgeous track

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

part of the appeal of "new rules" is how it encases a breathless chorus hook within an expected drop, we'll have to agree to disagree on "damp squib"

love to discuss a song that may not place at all at this point lol

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

yeah matt otm. i get that it's trying to have the vocals be like the processed (are they processed? i can't tell) vocals in a drop, and they're not quite the focus there, but it doesn't work for me

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:33 (eight years ago)

I know murder, conviction
Burners, boosters, burglars, ballers, dead, redemption
Scholars, fathers dead with kids and
I wish I was fed forgiveness

amazing

omar little, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:34 (eight years ago)

he is so great

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:35 (eight years ago)

Alfred otm

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:36 (eight years ago)

there's been a kind of sameyness to the poll this year imo (obvs this only bothers me because it's not my kind of sameyness; if 5 dancehall tracks had placed I'd be psyched), but it is p cool that all three "afro"pop songs are from three different countries and in different languages

rob, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

lotta lurkers have drifted away imo

gr8080, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:38 (eight years ago)

'Akanamali' didn't strike me at first but by the end I was completely on board. Very good choice, ILM.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:40 (eight years ago)

The Singles Jukebox loved it too. It keeps threaten to turn into a 2006-era Ne-Yo single.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:40 (eight years ago)

great song, the only one of hers I've cared for (that I've heard)

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:41 (eight years ago)

just like the battle of troy

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:41 (eight years ago)

good song i should have voted for

gr8080, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:42 (eight years ago)

good song, didn't quite stick with me after I loved it the first time around,

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:43 (eight years ago)

the video for this is charming

Dan S, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:43 (eight years ago)

lotta great delivery in this song. "ooooooooh / you're taking up a fraction of my mind," ".... AND OH BABY LET'S MAKE / reality / actuality," etc.

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:44 (eight years ago)

the second half of that song is probably my favorite kendrick moment of all time. the aggressive/aggressively repetitive sample always reminds me a bit of chicago footwerk stylez

scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:44 (eight years ago)

xps to kendrick obvs

scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

OH BABY LET'S MAKE

Key moment in song's greatness imo

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

love you like a love song 4ever

nxd, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

many thanks to whoever from TSJ was following the south african charts to find akanamali

Bad Liar is great and just missed my ballot, weirdly the Psycho Killer bass line doesn't really have anything to do with what makes it work so well, it's just there

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:45 (eight years ago)

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:50 (eight years ago)

I was gonna vote for this and then didn't, it's no Good For You but it's cool

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:50 (eight years ago)

Brad and JF otm about "OH BABY LET'S MAKE"

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:52 (eight years ago)

this did little for me and i've liked previous SG singles *shrug*

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:53 (eight years ago)

it's closest to Hands to Myself out of her previous singles, which is a good thing

Tarr Yang Preminger Argento Carpenter (Eric H.), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:01 (eight years ago)

This song seemed like minor CRJ to me at first, but my love for it has grown all year long.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:02 (eight years ago)

didn't realize ppl liked this one so much, don't think it'd make my crj POX

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:02 (eight years ago)

it's impressive on its own that a c-side nearly won out

anyway, great song that weirdly didn't his immediately for me

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:02 (eight years ago)

*hit

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:02 (eight years ago)

It's no "Cry."

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:03 (eight years ago)

i figured this was going to win by default at this point, great but probably middle of the pack as far as Emotion-era songs go?

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)

didn't realize ppl liked this one so much, don't think it'd make my crj POX

nor mine. it's a good middle between kiss and emotion but also sounds very much like something that didn't make one of her own records lol

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)

wow saer is in the top 2!!!

♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)

lmao i still have no idea exactly what the top two is

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:04 (eight years ago)

this feels completely and utterly boilerplate

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:06 (eight years ago)

I'm fairly confident? but maybe I'm wrong to be? xp

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:06 (eight years ago)

yeah i'm still uncertain which song got 78'd

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:07 (eight years ago)

i couldn't name either remaining song if you put a gun to my head

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:08 (eight years ago)

guess The Arcana really did take this

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:08 (eight years ago)

well, my prediction for number one was wrong.

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:10 (eight years ago)

suspenseful end-of-rollout!

Dan S, Thursday, 25 January 2018 19:11 (eight years ago)

yeah i'm still uncertain which song got 78'd

― flamenco drop (BradNelson)

From all the negative comparisons it got wrt Lost In Your Light, I'm afraid it's going to be New Rules :/
