he has an album coming sometime this year so hopefully it'll be great

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:08 (eight years ago)

This was my #1 which I felt a little strange about since I only heard it for the first time in, I think, November. But Samthing Soweto's vocals are absolutely the best thing I heard all year, and the production is perfect for it

rob, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:09 (eight years ago)

listening for the first time now, but yeah this is awesome and ufo otm about that organ solo

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:10 (eight years ago)

^ this is great btw

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:10 (eight years ago)

I'm just happy Akanamali placed! Well done, ILM!

these two are great as well and are going to be on the album

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:12 (eight years ago)

i thought this song was gonna place somewhere in the fifties. this is so great

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:12 (eight years ago)

btw - and i'll mention this again when we get there - i have the top 177 tracks queued up to add to the playlist as soon as we hit #1, so there is much listening yet to be done.

This is really pleasant.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

I love both CRJ and Charli but I hope it's either of them that doesn't make it this year.

daavid, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

same. feel like "new rules" is most likely to have been 78'd though

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

i kinda expected Boys and Bad Liar to both show up around where Green Light did

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:14 (eight years ago)

Really not sure what's going to miss out here. I know Carly Rae Jepsen is popular on here, but there's barely any discussion about that song on her thread. Could SZA have suffered from major split voting? I hope Selena has made it. I can't see New Rules missing out.

kitchen person, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:15 (eight years ago)

we could stop the poll here, and declare Akanamali the ILM song of the year

Dan S, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

This is sorta cool, because I don't have to post #2 and #1 together. No one knows what's missing.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:18 (eight years ago)

yeah i can't remember this ever happening before

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:18 (eight years ago)

I'm guessing SZA got vote split to death. The Weekend, Drew Barrymore, Doves in the Wind, Prom, none of them have placed.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:20 (eight years ago)

well she'll prob top the albums poll xp

we could stop the poll here, and declare Akanamali the ILM song of the year

― Dan S

I'd be totally OK with this

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:22 (eight years ago)

A couple of years ago half the poll seemed to be Kendrick Grimes CRJ Future Sundfør. This year's is just so much more interesting.

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:22 (eight years ago)

i'm hoping that New Rules is missing because i like all the others much more

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

this that put the kids to bed

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

it's like the best pop song of the year and i'll think less of the list for it missing xp

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)

didn't vote any Kendrick for tracks b/c whenever I put on "DNA" I had to listen to the rest of the album & so the album was so obviously album of the year / decade / whatever, a unity

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)

but it's not like i helped it out, it's just kinda kicking it at the end of my ballot xp

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)

"dna" is so awesome

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:26 (eight years ago)

If Lost In Your Love placed then New Rules definitely will but top four is way too high.

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:26 (eight years ago)

either way, it looks suspiciously like the top four tracks are all by women

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:26 (eight years ago)

Kendrick videos are always great, but the ones from DAMN are just another level.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:27 (eight years ago)

saer is a woman right?

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:27 (eight years ago)

New Rules just doesn't do much for me, nothing really hooks me and i wish it had a real chorus idk

DNA's placement is obviously well deserved, beat switch is great

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:28 (eight years ago)

it has an extremely real chorus

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:28 (eight years ago)

The one two three bit is magnificent but the actual 'I got new rules' hook is a real damp squib after that.

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:30 (eight years ago)

"DNA" is his best pure single imo

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

Voted for Akanamali after it appeared on the campaigning thread, so thanks to whoever posted it. Gorgeous track

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

part of the appeal of "new rules" is how it encases a breathless chorus hook within an expected drop, we'll have to agree to disagree on "damp squib"

love to discuss a song that may not place at all at this point lol

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:31 (eight years ago)

yeah matt otm. i get that it's trying to have the vocals be like the processed (are they processed? i can't tell) vocals in a drop, and they're not quite the focus there, but it doesn't work for me

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:33 (eight years ago)

I know murder, conviction
Burners, boosters, burglars, ballers, dead, redemption
Scholars, fathers dead with kids and
I wish I was fed forgiveness

amazing

omar little, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:34 (eight years ago)

he is so great

Alfred otm

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:36 (eight years ago)

there's been a kind of sameyness to the poll this year imo (obvs this only bothers me because it's not my kind of sameyness; if 5 dancehall tracks had placed I'd be psyched), but it is p cool that all three "afro"pop songs are from three different countries and in different languages

rob, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:37 (eight years ago)

lotta lurkers have drifted away imo

gr8080, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:38 (eight years ago)

'Akanamali' didn't strike me at first but by the end I was completely on board. Very good choice, ILM.

https://youtu.be/NZKXkD6EgBk

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:40 (eight years ago)

The Singles Jukebox loved it too. It keeps threaten to turn into a 2006-era Ne-Yo single.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:40 (eight years ago)

great song, the only one of hers I've cared for (that I've heard)

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:41 (eight years ago)

just like the battle of troy

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 18:41 (eight years ago)

good song i should have voted for
