i don't think i like bodak yellow after reading the ilm thread

somehow i missed that whole thread but reading it now i feel the opposite, i like it more

marcos, Thursday, 25 January 2018 16:53 (eight years ago)

i was kinda kidding lol

brimstead, Thursday, 25 January 2018 16:54 (eight years ago)

anyway, I like Mask Off, but I always thought the part where Future keeps rapping in the original flow when the drums drop out was a bit weird

What makes this song resonate for me above a million other similar bits of luxury braggardry is the line "These expensive/these is red bottoms/these is bloody shoes," which is not only catchy but lays bare the violence of capitalism in a way I haven't heard in other songs. The louboutins are literally "bloody" -- she acknowledge that she has stepped on and crushed others to get where she is. This line works not only on that sort of personal ruthless, status climber level but also describes the "blood" of the sweatshop labor that went into making her luxury item:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/jun/17/revealed-the-romanian-site-where-louis-vuitton-makes-its-italian-shoes
"Red" is even more appropriate here being not only associated with blood but with labor. At the end of the day she openly admits to identifying with being a "boss" and that "worker(s)" are contemptible. And being a boss means she makes "bloody moves," i.e. she acknowledges that being a capitalist inherently requires violence. Moreover, she doesn't have to *dance* (sell her labor) because she "makes money move" (freely moves capital across borders).

I think this is the third thing from my ballot to place? One of the better moments of the live set I saw.

OK Bad Liar was my other tip for #1 (so probably will be 'Boys' ergh)

Bicep's stuff still seems so dry, cold and not quite complete to me. Really don't get the love.

Love Galore is one of those tracks that always makes top 10s/20s but never ever tops a poll or a ballot (like cranes in the sky from last year), it ain't #1

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:22 (eight years ago)

Perfect song from my band of the year.

kitchen person, Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:22 (eight years ago)

Yesssss paramore!

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)

good song but i think i preferred it in the context of the album to on its own. pool was the real standout

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:23 (eight years ago)

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:27 (eight years ago)

Wow I just realized Kendrick hasn't placed anywhere yet

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:28 (eight years ago)

a crappy cover of 'the blacker the berry' placed at #9 tbf ;)

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 17:29 (eight years ago)

I like this song, didn't actually realise it was Paramore. I remember when people were first saying that they'd gone pop I was really disappointed b/c it didn't feel like they'd gone *full pop*. This is full pop.
