One way or another
I'mma love you
Slidin' under covers, undercover
They don't wanna see it happen
But we say, "Fuck it"

But we say, "Fuck it"

the bit where she sings one way or another slays me every time

nxd, Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:33 (eight years ago)

tbf "Everything Now" is the only Arcade Fire song I've ever liked

(the blues version in his Broadway show) (crüt), Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:34 (eight years ago)

Hahahahaha. I totally believed Arcade Fire, tbh, as other people have said, ilx has voted for worse. The 1975 didn't have anything out this year, did they?

emil.y, Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)

the two basically-opposite "Undercover"s being only 12 pts apart is quite nice

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)

if Arcade Fire had shown up at 50 or something I wouldn't have been surprised at all

couldn't really pick a highlight from the Kehlani album but Undercover is great

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:38 (eight years ago)

just noticed that bob marley gets a writing credit on undercover - anyone know which bit is his?

courtesy of The Fader:

On “Undercover” — probably the most fun song on the album — Kehlani pulls from Akon’s 2006 megahit “Don’t Matter,” which itself takes a part of its crucial melody from Bob Marley’s 1979 song “Zimbabwe.” (Marley and Akon both received songwriter credits on the track.)

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

ah ok, don't think i know 'zimbabwe' tbh

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:43 (eight years ago)

I don't think the bit of Zimbabwe that was in Don't Matter ended up in Undercover but that's how writing credits work

Beuuuts

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:49 (eight years ago)

maybe 20 seconds too long but otherwise great

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:50 (eight years ago)

totally forgot to vote for the man stormzy

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:51 (eight years ago)

Way too low, but may have lost votes to the album.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:53 (eight years ago)

a regrettable last-minute cut from my ballot--glad to see it so high!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:04 (eight years ago)

those fakes were excellently played, kudos

ogmor, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:04 (eight years ago)

oh shit

this was actually one of my least faves on the album tbh

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

still just a mediocre retread of Silent Shout except in a major key, huge disappointment

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:06 (eight years ago)

yeah idk about this, it's ok maybe

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

This fever ray track grew on me a lot in the context of the album. Prefer "Mustn't Hurry" tho

kolakube (Ross), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

I know I began listening to this album once, but I can't remember if I even finished it.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:11 (eight years ago)

It's a definite grower, and there's a handful of tracks that could stack up to the first. There's also a bunch of tracks that take the internalized body horror and grief of the first and turn it outwards and in a more ramped up, percussive direction. Comparisons to the knife make sense but it's worth the price of admission

kolakube (Ross), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:18 (eight years ago)

Obviously Stormzy has made it to national treasure status in record time but Big For Your Boots is the one that just clicked instantly and never went away. Totally deserves its status as ubiquitous UK anthem.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:25 (eight years ago)

ok I can say I called this one. good song imo

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:26 (eight years ago)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:27 (eight years ago)

i think this song is Just O.K.

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:28 (eight years ago)

The lesser of the Toves.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:28 (eight years ago)

unfashionable conservative opinion: ugh

#TeamHailing (imago), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:30 (eight years ago)

Dope track

kolakube (Ross), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:32 (eight years ago)

Men tend to overrate songs in which women get vulgar but "Disco Tits" is a good 'un.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:33 (eight years ago)

Helluva run this. Just clocked that I've had a veggie burger at the Bethnal Green takeaway Stormzy's on the counter of in the vid.

Disco Tits is the 1st of these today I voted for but I'm down w/ everything tbh

lilcraigyboi (Craigo Boingo), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:36 (eight years ago)

I like the track but the video is a bit silly

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:36 (eight years ago)

it took me a while for it to click but this is by far the best tove lo track

i hope the other tove is still to show up but i really doubt it

ufo, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:38 (eight years ago)

Unless you've gotten head from a puppet, don't judge. xp

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:39 (eight years ago)

its placing #17 on ILM's Top 77 Tracks of 2017 is not enough to convince me to listen to a song called "Disco Tits"

(the blues version in his Broadway show) (crüt), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:44 (eight years ago)

what if I asked you to dance to "Disco Tits"

16 THE BLACK MADONNA "He Is The Voice That I Hear" [329 points, 12 votes, 1 first place vote]
https://youtu.be/0NCjHeiwycQ

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:45 (eight years ago)

^ I'm the #1 on this one. It was a late decision and partly strategic, but it turned out the song was doing just fine.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:46 (eight years ago)

great track

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:47 (eight years ago)

hell yeh

nxd, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:47 (eight years ago)

think this is the third and final of mine to place, absolute banger

nxd, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:48 (eight years ago)

hearing it now for the first time!

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:48 (eight years ago)

I like rather than love this one but this is an excellent run of songs in any case.

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 January 2018 14:49 (eight years ago)
