akrakabo is SO MUCH SONG

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)

is serge beynaud generally this good

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:49 (eight years ago)

Not really, no. I threw a vote to the whole album, but Akrakabo towers over anything else he has done. But mind you, I also think it towers over anything else from 2017.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:49 (eight years ago)

Somewhere there's a video of Didier Drogba dancing to another of his songs that's worth seeking out.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:50 (eight years ago)

the Mondo Grosso would slot really well onto the Katamari Damacy soundtrack

rob, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:51 (eight years ago)

the.... breakdown? about 2:30 into "akrakabo" is so great. the drums!

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:52 (eight years ago)

this feels like the one we can all agree on, there's a song like this that emerges every year

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:53 (eight years ago)

innocent cute concept stuff

hyperactive signature sound

Both of these things are where I see the intersection between RV & J-pop. They always strike me as very cutesy and peppy but not going as far as taking it into the realm of weird, which is where I like that style to be taken. I dunno, maybe this is just me, though.

emil.y, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:56 (eight years ago)

best song I've heard that i didn't know before is Mondo Grosso.

the Richard Dawson track is excellent. i think his folk music side comes a bit from Shirley Collins, i sense an influence there.

omar little, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:57 (eight years ago)

Should fit yr maximalist needs lj :)

Love it.

the Little Big Town tune is also a really good one. they're perpetually overlooked but they're easily one of the best out there in the country genre today.

24 LIL UZI VERT "XO Tour Llif3" [280 points, 12 votes, 1 first place vote]
https://youtu.be/WrsFXgQk5UI

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:59 (eight years ago)

RV aren't really cutesy by kpop standards, i'm thinking groups like Apink etc. which is a style that doesn't really interest me much unless something weird is done with it (and it is every now and then in kpop)

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 17:59 (eight years ago)

woah assumed this would be quite a bit higher

rob, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:01 (eight years ago)

uzi too low imo

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:01 (eight years ago)

fuck yeah Akrakabo! a deserved placement. absolute BANGER and absolutely one of my faves of the year

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:01 (eight years ago)

Akrakabo is fuckin nuts, holy shit

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:03 (eight years ago)

Uzi placement feels right

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:03 (eight years ago)

hoped one of Akrakabo or Melanin would place, nice

nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:04 (eight years ago)

Still hoping for Melanin, but would be surprised if it beats Akrakabo.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:05 (eight years ago)

so done with nihilistic cloud trap

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:06 (eight years ago)

XO Tour Llif3 is a perfect pop song, with generation-defining ambitions that it nearly reaches. I had it in my top 15

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:07 (eight years ago)

xp i don't really care if you cry

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:07 (eight years ago)

glad this was such a hit this year

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:08 (eight years ago)

xo feels like a song that's going to age very well

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:09 (eight years ago)

also have a soft spot for the science project version

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:09 (eight years ago)

it just makes me sad for the generation inheriting this fucked earth. guess it's the new punk or w/e

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:10 (eight years ago)

I'm not into anything vaguely trappish either, but let's not get dramatic.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:11 (eight years ago)

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

fun lyric flip but hoo boy that's bad autotuning going on there

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:13 (eight years ago)

lol

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

There's one song where I saw it on the nominations list and went 'Oh right, I actually really liked that back then...' which I can imagine enough other voters to feel that way about that it should make it right about now and if it does you'll all go insane :)
Fingers crossed

Also, kinda like cloud trap, I guess.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:16 (eight years ago)

it's important that all tracks that place sound timeless forever and that we can gauge that in advance

fuck yes

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:21 (eight years ago)

didn't even occur to me to vote for this instead of the album but it's a staggering song

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:21 (eight years ago)

this is probably my least favorite song in the top 77. What am i missing here?

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:22 (eight years ago)

whattttttt I did NOT expect this to place. voted for it!

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:22 (eight years ago)

idk it's beautiful man xp

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

ten love songs was obviously an amazing record, but there wasn't a song that showcased just how incredible a vocalist she is like "undercover" does. the final minute is mind-blowing.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

I like the album plenty but this can't help but kinda tower over it

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

she nails it every time live too. we are lucky to have her.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)

Incredible song. The way it builds towards the end is breathtaking.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:24 (eight years ago)

there were a few other songs i liked more on the album but it's still quite good.

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:25 (eight years ago)

just another day on earth where i listened to "undercover" and cried lol

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:26 (eight years ago)

she nails it every time live too

yeah this was something to behold
