also it's a brexit anthem, done classily: the townsfolk blame an ogre for their troubles and pursue it madly, ritualistically...but it is not there...

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:39 (eight years ago)

Voted for the lp, but could easily have voted for Ogre as well.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:40 (eight years ago)

I'd have probably voted for it if I'd had more slots

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

Hang on, I'm thinking of Beggar rather than Soldier.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:44 (eight years ago)

As a k-pop agnostic, I do kind of like this one

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)

yay, just missed out on my ballot, fav kpop tune of last year behind blackpink

nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:45 (eight years ago)

Ogre!

♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)

love dawson's guitar playing first & foremost and there are some glorious turnarounds on ogre

ogmor, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:47 (eight years ago)

Will admit that I sometimes wish he were (or employed) a better singer. I like the tunes, the playing, the ideas, the feel, though.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:51 (eight years ago)

love red flavor & had it very high, it's pure excitement and the percussion is fantastic.

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:53 (eight years ago)

no idea what's with the 'interviewing fruits' mv concept though.

i don't expect any more kpop to place at this point but 4 tracks is a great showing

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)

Ogre was #5 for me. Should be a hit!

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (eight years ago)

so tasty!

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)

I thought Richard Dawson was unlistenable shite the first time I heard him. The video for "The Vile Stuff" helped me cross that line. Voted for "Soldier", but this is a close second favourite.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)

I would reverse the order of all K-Pop entries so far. "Likey" is clearly the best, "Red Flavor" the worst.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:04 (eight years ago)

<3

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:05 (eight years ago)

Enjoyed the Destroyer song, although it suffers from being right next to the Kamasi Washington.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:06 (eight years ago)

wtf is that "Ogre" song? :/

It's like somebody hacked my brain and then combined everything that I find annoying into one song.

daavid, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:07 (eight years ago)

I thought Richard Dawson was unlistenable shite the first time I heard him.

still at this stage, perhaps forever who knows

nashwan, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:07 (eight years ago)

magnolia is ok but i like wokeuplikethis* way more & voted for it, idk if itll show up though

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:09 (eight years ago)

Probs won't place but I preferred and voted Location, which barely feigns interest in being a rap song

devvvine, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:10 (eight years ago)

too low

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:11 (eight years ago)

smdh at richard dawson

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:11 (eight years ago)

both "magnolia" and "red flavor" are awesome

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:12 (eight years ago)

this situation is becoming increasingly antagonised & i can no longer promise to be on my best behaviour

playboi carti seems goofy rather than malevolent tho, and the production's decent

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:13 (eight years ago)

Location is excellent too

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:13 (eight years ago)

Richard Dawson's one of these folks I like the idea of in theory, but the reality is such a chore.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:14 (eight years ago)

my first vote to place. my little brother has been finding his own taste lately and playboi carti is something we agree on. watching his enthusiasm as he drunkenly danced around the kitchen rapping along to this was a v charming 2017 moment

ogmor, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:16 (eight years ago)

I didn't have a Dawsony year last year so no votes from me, but figured the LJ team would make the album do well - glad to see a track place as well.

I find Red Velvet a bit too normal and cloying for my tastes, but then I think I've got it in my head that "I don't like Red Velvet" because I hated 'Ice Cream Cake'. I'd probably dance to this out, tbh.

emil.y, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:18 (eight years ago)

think I preferred Ice Cream Cake to this :/

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:19 (eight years ago)

Okay, to counterpoint all the Dawson negativity - RICHARD DAWSON IS REALLY GOOD, YOU FUCKOS VOTED FOR FUCKING PLODDING MIDDLE-AGED COUNTRY, LET US HAVE OUR PAGAN BRITISH FOLK HORROR.

35 MONDO GROSSO "Labyrinth" [231 points, 6 votes, 1 first place vote]

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:20 (eight years ago)

yay voted for this one!

nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:21 (eight years ago)

The music of Richard Dawson is very very easy to admire, and people are overstating how hard it is to love.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:21 (eight years ago)

this is a lovely song iirc

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:22 (eight years ago)

Richard Dawson's one of these folks I like the idea of in theory, but the reality is such a chore.

i hardly ever sit and listen to his records for some reason, but go and see richard dawson live if you ever get the chance, seriously he's a really funny, engaging and -at times- astonishing performer

faust apes (NickB), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:22 (eight years ago)

Oh fuuuuuuuck, I meant to vote for this but completely forgot! Shit!

emil.y, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:22 (eight years ago)

The music of Richard Dawson is very very easy to admire, and people are overstating how hard it is to love.

Wrong on both counts, but people be into whatever they want idc

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:23 (eight years ago)

It just didn't click when looking at the noms list, but I *loved* this song last year.

xp

emil.y, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:23 (eight years ago)

last year i heard this somewhere, enjoyed it, forgot about it then rediscovered it in the nominations list and it felt like seeing an old friend again
beautiful track

nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:23 (eight years ago)

This is a rush of happiness

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:25 (eight years ago)

Voted for 'Magnolia', loved the trippy video for it as well.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:26 (eight years ago)

ooh yes! this was gorgeous, with an excellent video too

dawson was completely impenetrable to me until i heard 'ogre' which was so much more pop than anything i'd heard from him before and immediately loved it

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:27 (eight years ago)

Saer is an even worse poster than Imago

JB, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:27 (eight years ago)

^^^going through this guy's posts reveals a short and inglorious history of being a stupid cunt fyi

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:27 (eight years ago)

I like RD and I disagree that he's easy to get into for a majority of listeners tbh

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:28 (eight years ago)

this is a good one

ciderpress, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:30 (eight years ago)

i don't see dawson as being too removed from joanna newsom etc. but i guess the guitar sound can be pretty offputting

the mondo grosso album is definitely worth checking out for anyone who likes labyrinth
